It's about time that establishment lost it right to do business in Murray. Congrats to IMC!!!!!
Blight | 1:17 a.m. June 21, 2008
That trash heap should have closed long ago. The owners should have taken the cash when it was offered, but they chose to fight an unwinnable fight. Now the place can be razed and medical campus landscaping can be finished.

I thought the "D News" was going to be more “churchy.” Clever choice of words for the headline there, though using the word “strip” twice is rather salacious don’t you think. Shouldn’t the headline read something like, “Evil harlots cast out of den of inequity in the city of Murray.”

Sounds to me like they did a "fine" job of sticking it to IMC financially.

HURRAY!! I agree with Lew 12:30am. "About time it lost it's right to do business". Glad to see it go!
Super job IMC!!

I hear a collective sigh of relief coming from the good citizens of Murray. The strip club has been an eyesore of the community for years. Let it go to South Salt Lake which is a dirty ugly community anyway.
agreed | 6:02 a.m. June 21, 2008
Murray is too good of a town to have such a disgusting eyesore as that strip club! congrats to IMC and the city of Murray!
Lee | 6:43 a.m. June 21, 2008
if such strip bar establishments can delay a case 10 years and easily reopen elsewhere in the area, the weakness of the law itself is apparent and needs revision
YES | 6:53 a.m. June 21, 2008
Good Riddance!!!
RL | 7:10 a.m. June 21, 2008
When I have driven by that establishment located in a really nice area of Murray, I have wondered why its there. It has been a blight on the area for years. Good riddance!

How does the Supreme Court site the lease provisions as agreed upon by the parties to evict then ignore the provision for the loser in court to pay for the winners court costs? Sounds like the SC is legislating from the bench. Must have some Clinton appointees in the mix.
RUH | 8:06 a.m. June 21, 2008
Ya know, I'm all for freedom of choice and all the stuff that goes along with that. But that joint is like seeing a big hickey on a bride at her wedding!

It just ain't right!

That's my five bucks worth.
Anonymous | 8:10 a.m. June 21, 2008
this is a sad day in the city... we should just change the name of the state to all hail the morons i mean mormens
wally for dog catcher | 8:39 a.m. June 21, 2008
now where we gonna go?
To Blight | 9:13 a.m. June 21, 2008
Taken the cash when offered? 100,000 for relocating or 6 million for sticking it out....You do the math bright one or is that blight one
Adios! | 9:15 a.m. June 21, 2008
Yeah - put a good restaraunt or a nice art gallery, or something down there across from the Murray Park - - - The small community surrounding that lifestyle regardless is a like a migratory zit or something - - - Whatever anyone says, I think it's pathetic - - -
Re: Bill | 9:21 a.m. June 21, 2008
You can put whatever headline on it that you please....bottom line is it's gone. I guess since you can't criticize the story you have to criticize the headline. Always something, eh Bob?
Herm F | 9:33 a.m. June 21, 2008
The moral of the story is don't miss a rent payment. Ever. And never be late on your rental payments. Deadbeats lose their tenency rights when they break their promise to make payments. I'm all in favor of kicking people out who don't pay. Yay for the hospital. And the place was a big eyesore anyways, so way to improve our city.
Paul | 9:42 a.m. June 21, 2008
This was a fun place to hang out and have some fun on a Saturday night. Very sad turn of events, lots of good memories though. Wish we as a community could be more accepting and tolerant of those with different views, opinions, and lifestyles.
No-Brainer | 9:59 a.m. June 21, 2008
[I'm not sure what happened to my comment yesterday as it was posted and then disappeared; thanks DesNews.]

The strip joint was more of an eyesore and much more unhealthy than the two smoke stacks that were torn down 10 years ago. I'm sure we'll see Southern exposing itself somewhere soon. Thank goodness that this area is turning into the pride of Murray rather than the toxic heap it has been. There are a lot of beautification projects going on in the state and this one has been a great turnaround.

And it's interesting how people's insecurities about the LDS Church are projected during an article about a municiple and private company's prerogatives upheld by the courts. Go cry religious foul somewhere else!

I am so tired of seeing these trashy dressed people on the street hanging around these trash heaps. Really beings the value of SLC down. Time to haul it off to to the dump yard.
Reader | 10:33 a.m. June 21, 2008
Paul, if you love this place so much, how would you like it next door to your house?
Jake420 | 10:46 a.m. June 21, 2008
Maybe they will move to Sandy so I won't have to drive so far. Those girls are hot and I love them. Only wish they could get rid of the pasties and do lap dances! My wife loves them!!!
BYE BYE | 11:12 a.m. June 21, 2008
So long to southern exposure and all the scum that walked through its doors - male or female.
Petey | 11:40 a.m. June 21, 2008
If the bar was losing money it would have closed many moons ago. Someone must have liked the place. But if you ask me the hospital is really an eyesore, and is anyone more corrupt than IHC? Ever had their insurance and paid the premiums, or tried to get a fair shake from them. Corrupt, evil and in it for the money non-profit corp.
Yes Paul | 11:41 a.m. June 21, 2008
Some people are so open minded their brains fall out.
Bubba | 11:44 a.m. June 21, 2008
Now how are we going to expose the South?
Bud | 11:56 a.m. June 21, 2008
Haha, stupid strip club. Blah blah blah, you can't justify anything about this. It's complete and utter nonsense. Porn in any of it's forms is evil. That will never change, regardless of the amount of acceptance by the populace.
Tyler J | 11:56 a.m. June 21, 2008
Well I am one of those trashy people and I will miss my job at Southern X Posure. And don’t think for a second all those people who LOST THEIR HOMES to IHC ten years ago wanted to leave. SURE it’s easy to throw stones at the strip club, but IHC booted some very good people from their homes years ago when this started! Oh and all the RESPECTABLE small businesses that were bullied out by IHC. Let's don't forget that either. Don't let your distaste for our business blind you with ignorance! I know the history of 5400 south and State because I am the District Manager of the DIRTY SOUTHERN X POSURE. Just remember one day it may be you and your innocent business or beloved residence that is ousted by one of these GIANTS. One day you may actually wish Southern X Posure would have won and set precedence for the little people in this State!
My Experience | 12:02 p.m. June 21, 2008
When I was young I visited a strip club only once, this probably because I was a church going individual. Nevertheless I wanted the experience.

It was an interesting experience. I saw all of a young lady.

A lot of people are against this type of thing. However for me, I'm glad I had the experience, it was a positive in my life.

Money makes the world go around. He who has the money wins. Some win for good. Some win for evil.

Intermountain won for good. Their services to the Mountain West will long be remembered long after such low life places have come and gone.

It is tragic that it took so long!

Respectable Business???? Yeah, taking your clothes off and having guys stuff dollard bills in your thong sounds really respectable.
Can't we? | 1:17 p.m. June 21, 2008
I am okay with the fact that the strip club isn't the place to go to find morality, but we could all be a little kinder. These are real people working there. not trash. not scum. They are someone's daughter, son, family. I don't think we have to be tolerant of immorality, but we don't have to be rude either.
Bombadil | 1:38 p.m. June 21, 2008
You wonder if IHC simply wanted to have it's cake and eat it too. It did continue to take rent payments from this establishment of ill repute from 1998 until now. I would theorize they didn't mind continuing to make money on rent from the operation from '98 until 2007 when the hospital was essentially finished, knowing that a demolished dirt pile would bring no income. What likely upset them was the fact that by taking the money after the late payment, they cut off their own nose to spite their face and lost the ability to evict the renters. So, realistically, you could blame IHC for caring more about rent from a strip club then wanting to demolish the joint for the benefit of the community. Murray property owners are currently going to be paying for a large fire station next store to guess what? The new Death Star. You, know, the large hospital that sits on a large economically viable piece of land in Murray and pays ZERO property tax. Another fine example of the 800 pound gorilla flexing it's biceps.

Every time i drive by a strip club i notice a strange order and smell in the air. Something stinky and fishy.
I'm for healthcare reform | 2:53 p.m. June 21, 2008
Tyler J is right. Regardless of how we feel about Southern Xposure, we should all fear the power of IHC and other large "non-profit" organizations that push the tax burden on the citizens while charging exorbitant rates for "services" and insurance premiums, while building themselves up as the pillars of the community. If anything is obscene, it's the IHC monopoly that takes much more than it gives.

Go big business!
Anonymous | 3:05 p.m. June 21, 2008
Anonymous at 2:54 must be an IHC executive. He seems excited to get his next big bonus.
Anonymous 8:10 am | 3:45 p.m. June 21, 2008
is an idiot and a bigot, but what do you expect from a pro-strip clubber.
Also, how was the place ever able to remain in that location that close to Murray High school?
dirt bags all.
RE anonymous | 5:25 p.m. June 21, 2008
It seems apparent that there are about 15 people writing as Anonymous by the different points of view that they seem to be voicing. Perhaps if they can't come up with something more original the D News outgh not post thier entries. I seem to remember others making the same request.

What, no reference to Rush? If you hate Utah so much why don't you go somewhere else? Someplace like New York where they were dumb enough to elect Hillary when she didn't even live there.
gus | 6:47 p.m. June 21, 2008
It's funny how some think that the IHC building is beautiful. Not to me. Just another alter to the God of money and conveyer belt business.
Gus | 8:03 p.m. June 21, 2008
Gus, been sick recently? May I suggest home remedies for any malady you may unfortunately face as to not further contribute to such a business.
Sage | 10:53 p.m. June 21, 2008
I wish putrid entertainment like that would pack up and leave for good.
re: Tyler J | 11:02 p.m. June 21, 2008
Why on earth would the strip club knowingly miss a rent payment with all the litigation going on? The strip club would probably still be there had they upheld their side of the lease. Say what you want about IHC, but at least take responsibility for being financially negligent on your half of a legal contract.
Pro IHC | 11:41 p.m. June 21, 2008
IHC gives more in charity than it would pay in taxes. It is cheaper than the U of U or St. Mark's. It is continually recongized as one of the best healthcare systems in the United States. Those who think otherwise are ignorant or uneducated.
R.N. | 11:49 p.m. June 21, 2008
Bombadil must work for the U. or St. Mark's Hospital. They can't compete with IMC in terms of quality of care so they resort to cheap shots. I'm a nurse at IMC and I'm proud of our the wonderful care that we give to our patients.

Intermountain Medical Center has become one of the busiest hospitals in the state because it delivers outstanding patient care.

If you knew anything about this case, which you obviously don't, you would know that that the reason it's taken so long to resolve this issue is that Southern Exposure has appealed this case all the way to the Supreme Court, which has taken 10 years.

This case was filed in the courts 10 years ago. Three seperate courts ruled against the club.

The people at Intermountain Medical Center, are proud of our new facility and the care they provide.

I hope your life never hangs in the balance due to disease or accident, but if it does, you will want the very best – and that's at Intermountain Medical Center.

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
All are Scum??? | 12:16 a.m. June 22, 2008
Nude bars would not do as well if it was easier to buy a bottle of booze and a porn DVD in my neighborhood, like in other states.

One or the other, out in public, or the privacy of my own home.

I think you mormons have things pretty well sewn up in this little slice of Zion.

See ya'll in Church Sunday.

"To Anonymous 8:10" at 5:26 p.m.:

Nice going. Everybody knows the way to fight idiocy and bigotry is with more of the same.

Seeing as how I've been to Southern Xposure and similar places back in the day, I guess I'm one of those "dirtbags all" you're talking about. Glad you've set me straight on that.

Moving on...

I was thinking that "Bombadil" had a good point about IMC continuing to take lease payments all that time--but then it occurred to me that they kind of had to. If I'm reading this right, they tried to terminate the lease but couldn't evict the club due to ongoing litigation. So if the tenant is still in the building, it darn well better pay rent while it's there.

And one final note:

If I see ONE MORE PERSON pop off about "legislating from the bench," I'm gonna pop a vein. If a judge rules that a litigant isn't liable for fees, it's NOT legislating. Judges apply and interpret the laws that pertain to their court cases. It's called adjudicating--and it's what they're SUPPOSED to do.
