First Class My...... | 12:54 a.m. June 12, 2008
I guess the city council is teaching me something new. "First Class" cities are the ones who tax their citizens up the whazoo. I'm always one to help so here's some more ideas.

Levy a tax on each newborn baby

Set up toll booths and charge anyone who wants to drive thru our fair city.

Tax all purchases of tea 500%

Tax all stamps sold in the city.

Charge 1 penny for each strand of spaghetti sold in the city, 2 pennies for each macaroni noodle.

Charge for a "Walking Pass" for those wanting to take leisurely walks on the city sidewalks.

Just a few ideas. I can hardly wait to live in a "First Class" city!

West Jordan will likely get another tax hike next year when the Jordan School Disctrict splits. The east side and their high priced attorneys and elitist attitude will make sure the west side gets stuck with much higher costs.

If Kathy Hilton thinks West Jordan is less than a first class city, then let me be the next in a long line of West Jordan citizens over the years to beg her to remove herself and move away. Sandy is also trying to outgrow downtown Salt Lake; perhaps they would be interested in her "ideas" of a "First class city".
In the thirty five years that I have lived here I have seen this city grow from a four way stop at Redwood Road to the congested, overdeveloped, disaster of Urban Sprawl and zero-lot line housing that it has become. The only open space left in West Jordan would be if someone named a new real estate/strip mall development "Open Space Estates". With all the "growth" in housing and new business, I am left to wonder what happened to all the tax revenue that the newcomers (around 40,000 residents in the last 15 years) should be generating. The answer is that the city council is wasting city funds. Again. Does the name Atkinson ring any reminder bells?
If my taxes go up again, it better not be to pay for more traffic clogging roundabouts on 40th west.

You have got to be kidding. Gas prices have raised the cost of living for the average American has risen $2500 a year and you want to bang your local homeowner even more. The news is claiming Natural gas will increase this year. (can you say home heating cost increase?) Another hit to the pocket book. Why don't you try stabilizing what you have before you strive be a 1st class city. I have an idea, you want first class, MOVE to Beverly Hills. Then you can stick your nose in the air and brag about your first class status. Apparently the city is run by a bunch ELITIST IDIOTS. See you on election day.

This is the very seed that caused Californians to vote for Proposition 13. Should we let our local government govern without restaints on how we, the tax payers, are to finance our local government services. No! Residents need to elect coucil people who listen to their constituents and not city staffs - especially those staff members bent on generating unbrideld needs. I find it intersting how most local governments across the nation are able to get the job done with a lot less than what our council thinks it should have. Finally, we the people need to require our city council to impose in any given year no property tax increase that is greater than 2% of the previous taxing year on existing property owners.

West jordan needs to learn to live on a budget just like the regular people do. They spent $350K for that beautiful front yard in front of the city hall. They would not wait for fall to come so landscapers wer not so busy and they could get more than one bid (mr rolfe). Have you seen the beautiful roses along 78th south? The new police bldg with a gym big enough to have every west jordan policeman in there at the same time. Could not they have worked something out with golds gym? Look at city hall and the new fire station. No expense spared again. Money is no object to the city of west jordan

We need to remember this at election time... We need a new mayor that will oust all of the appointed officials. They are really the ones that are running the City. Also, West Jordan has the highest-paid employees in the state, but don't have the revenue to support it.

West Jordan public officials has the mentality of I want it-I get it, and we the poor working masses pay for it. Just what is "First Class". Just look at the Tajmahal (city hall) - what a waste of space, you could fit another floor in that building. I remember when they worked out of trailors. Why do they need such lavious work place? We do not need to keep up with the Hollywoods. Lets vote them all out at the next election.

As a retired senior citizen, I am already paying over $1850 property taxes in W. Jordan for a 1470 Sq. ft. condo. This is beyond ridiculous. Why haven't they stopped spending our money so extravagantly and if necessary cut some salaries, unnecessary jobs and some services rather than raise taxes some more. And while we're talking about the school district split, what was fair about the east side being able to vote on it and not the west side?
