76-10-500. Uniform law.
", a local authority or state entity may not enact or enforce any ordinance, regulation, or rule pertaining to firearms."
76-10-501. Definitions.
(9) (a) "Firearm" means a pistol, revolver, shotgun, sawed-off shotgun, rifle or sawed-off rifle, or any device that could be used as a dangerous weapon from which is expelled a projectile by action of an explosive.
The City of South Jordan in my opinion is in VIOLATION of State LAW

Seriously? | 3:00 p.m. June 5, 2008
This is another example of government trying to do what parents have failed to do, they have created a solution in search of a problem. 15 reports in 18 months? I would like to know how many reports of people throwing water balloons the South Jordan Police Department receives every summer. Maybe they should ban those from your next barbecue or family reunion!
I have several airsoft guns which I enjoy using to shoot targets in my backyard, as well as shoot friends on the occasional weekend (all perfectly safely and legally, I should add).
Many of the items mentioned in the ban are perfectly legal to use on your own property and I would encourage the residents of South Jordan to continue the use of toys such as slingshots, peashooters, etc in a fun and safe manner. Don't be bullied by an overzealous, under-informed city council.
As "Apalled" has already said, all that is needed is good parenting and common sense.

The mind set of the people who make the laws in this country have totally gone off the scale. The anti-gunners and those who know so little about the world of firearms.
They continue to pass all these feel-good laws with no results. Man kind has been making laws against killing each other for thousands of years, and not one has ever stopped the killing.
Now they want to go after childrens toys. They need to get back to the mental health of this world. They need to focus their resources on how to help the people of this world be in a better frame of mind.
This is nothing more then another waste of time, and money on something that will have no effect on the problems going on.

Get real! | 5:08 p.m. June 5, 2008
Its time that South Jordan got real. This is totally a bogus feel good legislation. Get rid of Shepard, and get Chief of police that is not some californianesc stooge. This law will do nothing but inhibit law abiding citizens, since threatening someone with a realistic looking replica is all ready against the law.

If these dumb kids would be taught to not go around pointing a realistic looking replica at the police, they won't get shot. I enjoy playing paintball, but I know better than to run around town with my paintball gun. I had a BB gun when I was 10. I knew better than to point it at someone. Whate happened to personal resposibility in this country? Parents have stopped doing their jobs and now the government is trying to do it for them. The problem is it affects those of us whose parents did not let them down. The government can not and should not try to regulate "stupid", because it really inconveniences those of us that aren't.

I do not minimize the potential for tragedy of an officer fearing for his/her safety justifiably shoots someone having one of these fake guns. However, we don't need another pile of laws and regulations. A bit of good parenting and common sense is all that is needed.
Quit wasting time on this and get on to real crime fighting issues, like encouraging more cooperation to identify drug dealers, gang members and illegal aliens.
