And doesn't it make you feel wonderful knowing some people spent $70,000 for dinner for the political yahoos. Time for the French Revolution in this country

I just read this article , about the girl who works 2 job , that sucks for her, Why not just find one job with benefits, and that is 40 hours a week. That would be nice if she could do that, I know it is hard going from job to job for her, or for anybody, I wish her the best in finding one job where she does not have to be working al the time, It is hard and it makes you crazy, and tired, all the time, and you have no social life.

I'm all for donating plasma, but aren't these folks afraid of getting anemic? My DH was donating as often as he was able, and before four years past, became so anemic that, though the Red Cross would still let him donate and etc, he was so fatigued he barely could get out of bed in the morning. We didn't make the connection until he has a huge test workup at an endocrinoligists here, which found not only anemia (his was relatively easy to treat with iron supplements, but was quite severe.) and adrenal problems, and several other issues. I'm not saying it was caused by donations, but it's something to be aware of, because after a month of the iron supplements, he's gone right back to being awake and "alive" again, capable of functioning at work and at home without extreme fatigue. I wonder if these people donating plasma to be able to make ends meet realize that theie continual donations could be putting them at risk of losing thier jobs due to extreme fatigue and anemia caused apathy....

How do you like what this republican administration has done to us this past 8 years Utah? Are you ready for more? If so continue to believe what the State leaders and numerous others will tell you and like for you to beleive then vote for the same party and get another dose of their politics.
hillaryin08 | 8:10 a.m. June 2, 2008
just another example of republicans sucking the life blood out of america.
plasma, not RBCs | 8:11 a.m. June 2, 2008
A plasma donor donates plasma, not red blood cells. The red blood cells are returned to the donor, so one does not become anemic from being a plasma donor.

To Roll Call:

Oh get off the Republican blame game. Fuel costs are due to Democratic Left Leaning Liberal Environmental Wackos who block any attempt to drill for oil. My automobile fuel costs have jumped from about 400 per month in December to nearly 700 in May. I say drill in ANWAR and anywhere else we can. and please dont give me your alternative fuels, or dependence on oil crap...its just daft!
use the library! | 8:16 a.m. June 2, 2008
I found a book at the library that teaches how to give children's hair cuts. It was free. I went to a beauty supply store, bought a cape and professional shears. Now I save over $40 every eight weeks because I learned how to cut my children's hair and I think it looks better then when I take my kids to a salon because I am not pressured for time with an overbooked schedule.

Instead of wasting money on services that people provide, go to the library and figure out how to do it yourself!

Why is it we are lead to beleive that a change at the top will change this countrys direction? I have stated several times here that what we need to do is vote out of office every single imcumbent State Rep, thats where we make changes. It won't hurt to put another party in the head office of our country, but that will not get it done without changing all of the present Senators and Congressmen representing all of us. These are the cheats that have been voting for and going along with all of this GREED and CORRUPTION. Total cleansing is what we as voters need to do. Come on folks step up to the plate PLEASE.

A one time investment in a good pair of clippers goes a long way in a family with boys.
I donated plasma when my kids were growing up and it did not hurt me one bit. We got only $15. per donation back then.
There are so many ways to save $. And yes, the library is a great resource. Don't forget bartering with friends and neighbors. I learned to become very resourceful raising a large family on one income. Easy times are just that, not much growth going on.
Re:Jason | 8:41 a.m. June 2, 2008
I thought Republicans were "conservative"? Obviously not. Republicans want to use all resources, build everywhere, destroy animal habitat and the animals themselves. Instead of being responsible and solving problems, they want to take the easy way out and continue on the path we've been on for the last 100 years. Drill more oil, yeah, that's a solution. Use every bit of a non renewable resource. Well, it's a good thing that there are Democrats and environmental "wackos", or else there'd be nothing left for future generations except housing developments and parking lots.

It's scary when you can't make ends meet and you have kids to feed. It's time to let Washington know that they are "bitting the hand" that feeds them!

Paid plasma donations do not go to patients. Paid donors can not donate directly to human patients, that is an FDA rule. These products are going to research and consumer products. Next time you buy something that is "vitamin enriched" at the store, just remember that it is because of someone's plasma being added to your lip stick, shampoo, or other product....not to saving lives. Blood centers collect their own plasma to give to patients.

"WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME TO BE RICH!"

Paying for plasma donations makes the motive money. Other states, notably California where I live and regularly donate plasma & platelets, doesn't pay people for these donations. It's truly a donation. I do not trust the money motive for donating blood or blood products, and I think Utah is way off base with such a policty.
Oil and Real Estate | 9:53 a.m. June 2, 2008
That's why everyhting is shifted folks! Stop blaming the Republican party for this. The real estate mess is blamed on The banks and the people who wanted a house before they could pay a 20% down payment. So that is slowed then comes construcatin job loss which makes up a bog % of jobs. Then the oil deal where we can't drill in our backyard because of enviromentalist wackjobs and these idiot politicians. Those 2 markets affect us tremendously.

I donated plasma a couple of times while a student in Pennsylvania. My wife and I used the money to got to Disney World with our daughter. The economic problems that we are experiencing need solutions but mostly what I see here is complaining. I like the idea of using our own resources to keep our economy robust and healthy but I also appreciate the perspective that we most respect our environment and keep it healthy and robust. It seems that it ought to be a simple thing to develop technologies for extracting energy with minimal impact on the environment. I think we should now begin to realize that we have a serious liquid fuel problem where demand is growing faster than supply. This should alert us to the need for alternative energy sources which we should be exploring now. I like the idea of nuclear energy and I believe that current technologies allow for its responsible use. I have a lot of confidence in the ingenuity of Americans to work the problem and come up with viable solutions.

It was Jebb Bush who stopped oil drilling off Florida. Are conservatives so programmed to repeat their talking points that they fail to see how mindless they look to those of us who don't get our news from Fox News?

You are seeing was government run in the best interests of corporations as done to American workers. Trickle down economics has been used in Mexico for decades. Americans are paying for trickle down economics twice.
Blah Blah | 12:01 p.m. June 2, 2008
Blah, Blah, Republican, Blah, Blah Democrat...Since when did we stop accepting responsibility for ourselves? If you don't like the current crop of politic, then get involved instead of blaming others, we empower ourselves not the other way around.
Plasma | 12:04 p.m. June 2, 2008
How many pints of plasma would I have to sell to be able to buy a plasma screen TV?
jr | 12:22 p.m. June 2, 2008
It was Ronald Reagon that capped the wells in Utah too. mmmm nope got to blame the Dems for everything and $70,000 dinner for two is okay for the Repubs YUP YUP greed all the way. I worked two jobs for 15 years sometimes 3 before the crunch and raised children, it was harder but I sure don't envy the folks of today. I wonder where the future is for our childrens children.
YouGoFirst | 12:24 p.m. June 2, 2008
To "Blah Blah | 12:01 p.m." I like your attitude!! I don't feel too bad because people can't shop Nordstroms as much.

To "Plasma | 12:04 p.m." it all depends on the size of the plasma screen you want. You definately could have one monster screen within 10 months.
Tight Economy | 12:33 p.m. June 2, 2008
You think your paycheck is tight, just wait until the "Global Warming" cap & trade "Tax" goes into effect.
Utilities, Gasoling/Diesel, Food, these things will all shoot through the roof.
As far as it being a problem caused by the Repubs. or the Demos., it isn't, it was caused by the voters that only voted for the following reasons:

A. Vote the party line.

B. Vote because "He/She speaks to me!"

C. Vote for Black/White, Christian/Non-Christian, Male/Female, Etc.

D. Vote because he/she is "Established"

E. Vote because of "Class-Envy"
You get the idea, you need to vote for the ones that have & keep the interest of "THE PEOPLE" in view.

Quite clear this is not new news
Utah's are poor because of the Republicans that refuse a wage raise for the Minimum Wage
They needed a Parking Garage
This time coming up
Put some Democrats in to use the Garage!
Time to KICK the Republicans out!

I think it's hillarious that people are begining to whine about now are considering working a part time job along wit their full time job to suppliment their finances. I've been working a full time job and a part time job for the past 3 yrs now out of necessity, I've got financial obligations ! I don't have the luxury of not working all the time, because it's preventing me from going back to school so I can only work 1 full time job. I'm just hoping things don't end up so bad that I have to work 2 full time jobs !
Plasma donor | 2:33 p.m. June 2, 2008
I gave plasma for years in college and dental school. It paid for my wife's wedding ring. I had the time, needed the money. I didn't get rich, but I wouldn't go out of my way to donate it for free. I would recommend it to anyone who has some extra time and could use a little extra money to get by.

Same as Plasma Donor | 3:30 p.m. June 2, 2008
I too gave plasma for years. I used the chair time to study and graduated with a 4.0. I have since moved to California and only give blood now, because they don't pay for plasma here. I choose to save lives with my RBC donations, but because of the time commitment they would have to pay to get me back for plasma. To anyone that thinks donations should be free tell that to the blood banks that make a killing off of our 'free' donations and time.

I have known several people who sell Plasma for CASH they need to get by. This is sad, they do this to make money for food, or pay a bill, or even GET MONEY FOR WEEKEND PARTYING! I know a girl who made her monthy car payment off of her Plasma selling. What a great country we live in, all the options we have to earn EXTRA CASH!!! It is sad we are heading in that direction!

Get an education so you can get a job that will pay you enough to not need multiple jobs.

Also, a set of hair clippers costs less than one visit to the salon (that is, be smart what you spend your money on).
Easy to Say | 6:30 p.m. June 2, 2008
I,

Lots of people with "education" are losing jobs these days. Thanks for your patronage though.

BTW: pa·tron·age = Support or encouragement proffered in a condescending manner
l | 11:29 p.m. June 2, 2008
easy to say-hard to do-I agree...

Look back a couple years when the economy was booming and people were quitting college to work in construction or other industries-of course it was hard to turn down tons of money for school. Whether or not some people with an education are losing jobs, it's definitely easier to find a job with an education than without.

The trick to education is finding both something you like doing and something that you will make money at. A neighbor of mine *likes* his job programming thermostats at a local university so doesn't go back to school (with half tuition benefits) to become qualified for a supervisor job that pays a lot more money. Of course, that means he has to work a second job and his wife also works FT.

Utah's unemployment rate is much lower than the rest of the nation, and the job growth rate, although slowed, is higher than the rest of the nation, which means there are jobs here. National media recession talk doesn't mean Utah's in bad shape.

Prepare yourself when you're young, and opportunity abounds, but if you put off education until later, you'll be in EvanE's situation.
Macro Not Micro | 3:19 a.m. June 3, 2008
I,

You'll see. You are ignoring the big picture. Also, Utah's economy is not doing well. Time will prove you wrong.
