brighton is gonna win it today 2-1. finally.
thomas | 7:56 a.m. May 22, 2008
go bengals, hope you can win it. some people on this team just deserve some sort of state championship, like mike hanna who played in three sports this year and came up empty, mike neilson who has played for 3 years to get a win. go brighton.
Coach G | 7:59 a.m. May 22, 2008
Mt. View will not be able to keep up with Bountiful's 15 experienced seniors and Mike Hodgen. Bountiful wins 3-1
Lauren | 8:19 a.m. May 22, 2008
Whatever, Viewmont is so going to win today! They have an amazing team this year. They are going to beat Brighton.
soccer fan | 9:05 a.m. May 22, 2008
I thought Viewmont was 1st in their region. Can someone clarify? I thought region 1 went Viewmont, Freemont, Weber, Layton, Davis.
Ric Flair | 9:18 a.m. May 22, 2008
Viewmont is going to destroy Brighton 5-1 today! Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
answer | 9:40 a.m. May 22, 2008
correct- viewmont took first in there region and so did brighton. brighton won the coin toss - so they'll be in white and be home team
Bruin fan | 9:54 a.m. May 22, 2008
Bountiful's 15 seniors are going to have a lot of experience watching balls go into their net. 3-0 Mountain View wins and takes home the trophy to Happy Valley.

Bottom line is, if you want to see two pretty good soccer games it will be tonight. All the teams are loaded with talent and I am sure who ever wins it will be impressive. Being from Davis county I will have to cheer on Bountiful and Viewmont, but I have had the opprotunity to coach a few players on both Brighton and Mountain View so I am a little torn. Anycase, if you are a soccer fan you won't want to miss it.

I wish all the URSC players the best of luck, go get your State Championship....

Having watched both Mtn. View and Bountiful play this season, I think most of the predictions being made by both sides are completely uninformed.

Mt. View's defense is the most solid group Bountiful will have faced in 4A this year, it's mostly the same group that only allowed one goal in the 5A tournament last year. Bountiful will not be scoring three goals on them. They'll do well to put two in. This is not Springville they're playing.

Likewise, Mt. View is not going to be scoring three goals on anybody. If you look back through the last 2-3 years, MV makes a living off of low scoring, 1-0 wins in the playoffs.

Having seen them both, I think it's basically a coin toss as to who wins. I think Bountiful has perhaps the best offense in the state, but MV definitely has the best defense. To me that means a low-scoring 1-0 (maybe 1-1 in a shootout) result. Who wins? Don't ask me. But I think it will be a very good game.
re:uninformed | 12:04 p.m. May 22, 2008
You say this is not springville Bountiful is playing. Is that a derogatory comment towards the red devils? Because it looks to me like less than 2 weeks ago that sprinville team beat Mt View 2-0. It doesn't matter what happy valley team Bountiful plays today they have to much big game experience, depth, and talent to lose. They will find a way to win, no matter what....they are a great team!
Fan | 12:31 p.m. May 22, 2008
Tyler and Tommy will have each at least one goal! They are to fast and to strong! Viewmont will win 2-0! I am just a fan but thats just my thoughts, it should be a great game.
Brighton | 12:36 p.m. May 22, 2008
Go Brighton, keep that trophy in region 2! Viewmont did not even deserve to make it to the final.. DESTROY THEM
brighton 3 Viewmont 1
Brighton gets their long awaited rings
austin fan | 12:49 p.m. May 22, 2008
austin nate is the coolest guy ever!

GO BRIGHTON SOCCER!
just remember confidence is key and to play with all your heart and soul. and just go out there try your best and have fun! beat viewmont!! woooo
re:Brighton | 12:57 p.m. May 22, 2008
How can that last comment say that Viewmont did not even deserve to make it to the final? Viewmont had a such a harder road than Brighton did to the final beating both Jordan, the reigning champs, and Alta. Brighton had it much easier and still never won by more than one goal, and going into a shoot out once. Brighton barely made it to the final playing much easier teams than Viewmont played. Viewmont deserves to be there just as much, if not more than Brighton.
did not deserve it? | 12:59 p.m. May 22, 2008
viewmont took there region and beat your precious JORDAN and your friends from ALTA. dont deserve it huh? whatever.
1 vs 2 | 1:02 p.m. May 22, 2008
Ok so with all the talk about who is better between region 1 and region 2, Why dont we let the playing on the field decide it today? In the past region 2 has been more dominant but will that change with tonights game? I expect it to be close but brighton will have a slight edge in possession and shots giving them the advantage.
Brighton over viewmont 2-1
with both goals by mike nelson for brighton and one goal by cook
re re brighton | 1:03 p.m. May 22, 2008
That was said based on that you guys got outplayed by alta but somehow got a lucky win...
Sanity is bliss | 1:21 p.m. May 22, 2008
I have followed both regions this year and both Brighton and Viewmont have great talent. In the most recent games, Viewmont has shown more grit, so I would give them a slight edge if the weather were not a factor. With that being said, this game will be decided by the team that can slip in a shot or two in spite of the less than ideal conditions. Game decided by shootout!!
either way | 2:10 p.m. May 22, 2008
look guys- even if viewmont loses.. you cant say region 2 is harder. viewmont knocked out 3rd and 2nd place team in the state.so technocally its #1 Brighton vs. NOW #2 Viewmont.

Regarding "do a little review":
If you're going to tell someone else to do some review, maybe you should do some yourself...for instance, taking a second to get her name right.

Now for the first attacker...
You got you're point acros alright obvisously desnews got there point across and we all knew what they ment so your right nobody should care about speling.

I'm glad to finally know that spelling correctly is a waste of time. I'll give it up right away.
Championship | 2:38 p.m. May 22, 2008
Well being from the region 3, I have no allegiance to either team. I will say this. Both teams deserve to be there. The battle for the championship will take place on the pitch. Not on this posting.

Good luck to both teams you deserve to be where you are. Viewmont you've more that proven your worth. You have battled through the playoffs with some tough opponents. Your more than capable of winning this game.

Brighton, You had an unbelievable schedule. With every team gunning for you. You fought through it all and now your here. I say this earnestly. I won't be disappointed with either teams victory. You both earned it. I wish I could be there to watch! Good luck. I'll be watching the postings tomorrow.

Word has it that as the Alta and Viewmont boys were congratulating one another after Tuesday's soccer match the center referee (who had just been upbraided by the Alta coaches for not adding stoppage time) yelled to some of the Alta players that he was glad they were graduating because he wouldn't have to referee them anymore. Word also has it that this was the same official who looked the other way in the final two minutes on an offsides call against nine of these same boys in their State Cup championship game. In Tuesday's contest this same official admitted to at least one Alta player that he had seen the hand volley that led to the go-ahead goal.
B-Town | 3:31 p.m. May 22, 2008
Let's remember bountiful beat Viewmont and tied Brighton. They're good!
no b hanse | 3:35 p.m. May 22, 2008
the curse of b hanse is gone. now brighton can win!!!
says who. | 3:36 p.m. May 22, 2008
ofcoarse the kid says that the ref admitted to it. he needs to blame someone for the loss, and heres his oppurtunity. shoulda cleared out the ball in the box better alta. should have scored more goals alta. take some responsibility for your loss.
Time on Scoreboard | 3:54 p.m. May 22, 2008
I was confused with the announcer calling the game before the ref blew the whistle. Is this a new rule for state playoffs? I know when I have gone to other games during the season and the team has a score-clock, the clock may have run out or even stopped at the 2 minute warning mark, but the ref was the one that officially announced "GAME". This didn't happen in the Alta/Viewmont or Bountiful/Springville game. I found it interesting as during both games there were a lot of delays (injury time, ref talking to players and coaches time) that the clock should've stopped, but didn't. Then the ref didn't add anytime. Weird.

I'm not saying that this is what caused either team to win or lose, but it was distracting when the announcer announced "GAME" twice before the ref called it. Weird.
jim | 4:07 p.m. May 22, 2008
yes this official does get involved personally with the players and for that reason i think he should be fired.

If brighton wins tonight it does say that region 2 is more dominant not saying that viewmont wasn't good but it would be the 4th straight win for region 2..
brighton | 4:24 p.m. May 22, 2008
brighton keep the title where it belongs!!
anonymous | 4:28 p.m. May 22, 2008
the referee at the viewmont alta game is the best ref in the state. he's as good as it gets.
viewton | 5:45 p.m. May 22, 2008
The official sucked and i am not from either team. He sucked in club and will always suck. High school soccer does not attract quality officials so live with what you get for now.

Brighton- Don't count on just Nielson to bring you the trophy. Travis Barton and Spencer Burnside will be big for you tonight. And please don't make the the same mistake Alta made by giving up because of bad officiating. Alta stop playing to complain to the ref. so many times ecspecially in the second half and on cooks handball and consequent goal. Look at the picture in the paper. Play hard both halfs.

Now, Just if the Bengals could get the title in the other football.
ITS ALL OVER | 9:31 p.m. May 22, 2008
Brighton good job keeping the state championship trophy where it belongs. In sandy and in region 2..
Congratulations to the brighton bengals who finally are going to get some rings!!
Viewmont fan | 10:07 p.m. May 22, 2008
Congrats to Brighton on your state championship. Soccer is a funny sport, Viewmont dominates Brighton and loses, Alta dominates Viewmont and loses. Great season VHS, we're proud of you. Brighton needs to send us thank you cards for knocking off both of their Region rivals since Brighton lost back-to-back games against Jordan and Alta whereas we beat both of them back-to-back. No excuses though, Brighton enjoy, you beat a great team.
Anonymous | 10:29 p.m. May 22, 2008
the state championship will come home for the other football to for brighton dont you worry
Anonymous | 10:41 p.m. May 22, 2008

ts | 11:07 p.m. May 22, 2008
Nice job Brighton Bengals. Proud of you Adam. I wish I could have been there to see this game. I can't wait for tomorrow to read all the blogs. Sounds like from the score it was a defensive battle. Nice job Spencer.
Good run Viewmont almost made it three straight wins over strong Region 2 Teams. Too bad you couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. What no refs. to bail you out tonight. Handball Cookie where were you tonight. Maybe next year! Not! Still will be Region 2 like every year after year after year.
congrats to the 5A champs | 11:20 p.m. May 22, 2008
realistically it should've been another classic alta v brighton finish but oh well good season brighton!
you get your rings i already got mine
Bountiful | 11:40 p.m. May 22, 2008
Way to go Bountiful!!! That was a great game and no one deserved it more. I was very impressed by the Mountain View fans. They are die hard. My only regret is our fans didn't cheer louder.
Go Bengals!!!! | 11:44 p.m. May 22, 2008
Way to take state baby!!!! You guys totally deserved it! It's about time things go our way. Viewmont played great, but it was Brighton's turn to win it this year. Sorry Viewmont I know it sucks!! I feel you guys. Trust me, we know how it feels.
Brighton | 11:30 a.m. May 23, 2008
Good game brighton... you guys brought it all to the table and fought hard to the end. Viewmont you guys had a good run and knocked off some good teams (remember alta one of them was you so you can be quiet now) but just came up a little bit short, but still played a great game.
Re: Braves | 11:35 a.m. May 23, 2008
Viewmont is not that good? How are they not that good, they barely lost in the finals by a PK. Yes they still lost but hey give them the credit they deserve...
Anonymous | 6:15 p.m. May 24, 2008
Bountiful has nothing to do with the article...i guess they want to be part of our 5A category? brighton has the best looking players.
Antwan from San Fran | 6:38 a.m. May 25, 2008
Brighton does have the "best looking players" fo'shua. Go Vikings (next time, year)
