Its amazing that a place as grand as both Morgan County and Echo are forgotten but then thats this newspaper. What can one say.

I've been visiting in Utah for nearly 50 years and I've never read a better synopsis of what is available to do and see in any "tourist magazine" or anywhere else. This is well worth printing out and keeping for future use. We will be visiting in Utah this summer and look forward to using the article.

Another beautiful and unique place that is virtually unknown in Sanpete county is Maple Canyon, which is about 5 miles South-West of Fountain Green. It's one of the best climbing spots in the state.

The oil companies will prevent me from going anywhere. Maybe there will be a nature show about Utah. It takes a lot of money to keep corrupt people corrupt.

It's good to have this great start at finding the good places. If people can add more all the better. If one county was left out or some scenic place, chalk it up to human error and add the information yourself. Think Wikipedia here.

Pat, One can say "Whaaaaaaaaaa" to you. You sound like some of those parents at Morgan High that cried about being a smaller school in 3A. "Whaaaa" so unfair.
Get over it! It's a beautiful and secluded valley up there and I bet most of the residents prefer to keep it a secret rather than let the cat out of the bag.

Re: Col. | 8:44 a.m. May 22, 2008
To the Col in the first comment - When I read the article Morgan County is included and the last time I checked Utah did not have a county named Echo!

We should be waging war on OPEC! They are our real enemies..

What a great, useful article! Thanks to Mr. Grass for a job well done.
I'm going to Utah on vacation this summer, my first time back in the summer since I moved away to the Least Coast five years ago. I'll surely visit some of the places mentioned in the article.
And yes, every county is included, even if "Summitt" County should be spelled Summit.

Mr. Grass - Have you ever been to Sanpete County? Yuba Reservoir is mostly in Sanpete but you put it in Juab. No biggie there because we do share Yuba with Juab and Millard counties. But, how could you miss Maple Canyon, famous around the world for free-climbing; the Mormon pioneer Heritage sites in Spring City, Manti, and other communties, Palisade State Park, and arguably the best 4-wheeling trails in the entire state of Utah.

I would have liked in county descriptions in alpha order so could find quicker
Also a map of state showing where counties were would have been nice

To Sanpete: Which trails are good for 4-wheeling? I've never been down there but would like to visit with my family this weekend.
SLC to Zions = $250 | 12:21 p.m. May 22, 2008
Most full sized SUV's cost over $100 to fill up with fuel now. It takes almost a full tank of fuel to drive to Southern Utah so most familes are looking at close to $250 in fuel costs. Six years ago I remember driving my SUV down/back for about $110. I really think most people will be staying within 50 miles of home for all holidays this year.
go while you still can ... | 12:28 p.m. May 22, 2008
...next summer I am betting gas will be over $5 a gallon! Heck, maybe even $6 a gallon. Better go see Utah while you still can. I am sure that the fat cats at Exxon and our other wonderful , patriotic oil companies will be traveling all over the world with the HUGE profits we are supplying them! Doesn't feel good to know that you are contributing to these dishonest , money grubbing, fat cats every time you you put their $4 per gal gas in your SUV.

Lagoon, Park City and Timpanogos Cave are the top destinations for this family this year.
To all those who complain | 2:37 p.m. May 22, 2008
Why do we get so upset over gas prices? So much so that we call oil companies "dishonest" and "money grubbing." If that's true, than we should also be upset at Abercrombie and Fitch, Lexus and every movie theatre in the valley because they're all jacking their prices up too. I know we all wish that businesses were nonprofit but business doesn't work that way. You want prices to go down? Stop buying their product.
Come on | 3:09 p.m. May 22, 2008
It isn't the oil companies guys. They have a profit margin of 7-10%. Oil is a market traded commodity and prices are set by the market. Remember who owns "big oil" companies...stockholders do....and you are probably one of them by way of a 401(k). The job of a corporation is to make money for the stockholders. While prices at the pump hurt me too, it seem that the anger should be directed at politicians and their idiotic, failed energy policies.
Sevier County | 3:16 p.m. May 22, 2008
There are so many hidden places in Sevier County that are amazing to see....My favorites are Big Rock Candy Mountain, Fish Lake, Gooseberry, Salina Creek etc.
Save this for future reference?? | 4:31 p.m. May 22, 2008
I hope that this will be saved somewhere for easy & quick access on this site.... Please, willyou? (oh and alphabeticalizing the counties and including a map of where the counties are would be GREAT ideas)
We love Utah too | 6:24 p.m. May 22, 2008
We live in another state and whenever we can, we take our family vacation to Utah. We especially love Zions park! Nice people, clean, good roads, wonderous natural beauty! Living in L.A. can really make you appreciate Utah! Please never change your state! Even people from Missouri like you now!
Sanpete All the Way | 9:52 p.m. May 22, 2008
By far the greatest county in the state! (Nope, Not from there either) I love how secluded it is. Only one walmart in the whole county! (and it's not a super walmart!) But I agree best four wheeling! Especially 12 Mile Canyon up by the little town of Mayfield. (Beware the locals are very stingy about sharing the mountain) But by far some of the best scenery. I love Sanpete because it seems like time stands still there. Anyway, 12 Mile Canyon has great fishing, trails, and camping. Travel up HWY 89 and pass by the beautiful Manti Temple or take Skyline Drive all the way up the county. But if you've never been, I would definitely make Sanpete County a destination this summer!
Great comments | 10:00 p.m. May 22, 2008
You know, so far, this has been the only article on this site where we didn't get any anti-LDS rantings! I love the fresh air, don't you?

Kane Jane | 10:42 p.m. May 22, 2008
If you are in Kane County, don't miss the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary just north of Kanab. It's a wonderful canyon full of caring people taking care of thousands of pets... and they offer a free tour that will show you what they do and let you play with a few critters. Stop to warm your heart while you are down in the redrock.
Eye Dee Ten Tee | 11:12 p.m. May 22, 2008
The only reason Coalville isn't mentioned in "Summitt" county is the desicration of the Coalville Tabernacle, converting it to a Stake Center.
Oh, and don't miss the John Singer museum in Kamas.

Piute County | 9:30 a.m. May 23, 2008
It is nice to have comments on my town but the correct spelling is Marysvale not Marysville.
