Great article. As one who played with Ed Carter in the early 80's, I know what a natural musician he is and I always marveled at the huge repetoire he carried around under his cowboy hat.
However, your story of dance bands in Utah County will only be complete when you tell the story of Wendle and Rexine Eagar (the couple in your last photo).
It was a shock to see them actually dancing because for the last 40 years or so, they have been the ones on the stage providing music for thousands of dancers at thousands of venues throughout Utah County. Wendle played the guitar and sax and Rexine the bass all while raising 12 children. They had a date every weekend as Rexine put it.
Again, thanks for your story.
