These Labor negotiations seem to always be messy.

I will say one thing though, I don't care how many millions the players are making, I never think they should be looked down upon for using their leverage to get paid more.

The game chews up and spits out players like Copenhagen, and almost everybody who plays a couple of years in the NFL leaves the league with a life altering injury.

Unlike other sports where the contracts are binding on both parties in the NFL most contracts are either fully or mostly terminable by one party, the franchise. So the players can be in the middle of a 6 year 50 million dollar contract one season and at the end of the year the team can often just cancel their contract and send them packing w/o pay.

The typical NFL Team clears about 30 Million in pure profit a year (ranges from 0 to 100M+) and is valued at almost a Billion dollars. Those aren't huge profit margins, especially considering many players are making over 10M per year by themselves.

So whose side do you take?

i hope the owners have the courage to hold the line and break the union. the players have 60% of revenues and they want more. the owners have an opportunity to protect football from becoming baseball. in the late 80's the owners did the unthinkable, replacement players, they should keep that idea at the ready. the greed and selfishness of the players must never be underestimated.
