I commend Senaor Hickman for sponsoring SB81, and I must say I applaud the senate for finally taking action on this issue, poll after opinion poll has shown that the majority of Utahn's are fed up with illegal immigration and the negative impact it has had on Utah and especially the wasach front, I have personally watched as bill after bill was shot down in the legislature after Tony Yapius and his mob of illegals marched through the rotunda and pressured our legislators to vote against resonable bills that would have discouraged illegal immigration into our state, I urge the Task force to not only toughen this legislation but to put the provisions back in that were gutted at the last minute to allow the bill pass, we the citizens are watching closly and expect more than what we've gotten in the past.

I agree with everything "Timberwolf" has to say but I would go further and urge EVERY Utahn to contact their legislators and/or senators to urge them to PLEASE ACT TO ENFORCE THE LAW. The smokescreen that the chamber of commerce threw up against the get-tough immigration bill was just that: an attempt by the powerful chamber of commerce to fatten the wallets of the business owners, while ignoring the law. The longer Utah puts off implementing get-tough immigration measures, the larger the problem becomes to eventually have to deal with. This is the #1 "hot button" issue with the electorate in Utah whether the legislature realizes it or not.

While the State needs to act--the Federal Government needs to act even more. Illegal immigration is taking our country down in numerous ways and the ramifications are increasing exponentially. Jason Chaffetz, candidate for Congress in the 3rd District has taken a strong position against illegal immigration and is prepared to take the necessary steps to attack the whole problem -- not in little pices -- which is one of the reasons he will get my vote.

We hear so much about our country being founded on the rule of law. An understanding of that term leads to one conclusion, the enforcement of the law as its is written. The only constitutional method of changing the law is for the legislature to do so or for the Courts to determine that such a law is unconstitutional (i.e. to strike it down). In the case of immigration, neither of these constitutionally-approved methods has occurred in such a way that would make it acceptable to allow illegal immigration. Turning a blind eye to the law, as it stands today, by refusing to enforce it or arguing that the law is too impractical to be enforced is not the solution. A nation that fails to enforce its laws is weakened, not strengthened, by the ideal of the rule of law. We have two choices, change the current law or enforce it. That is why I am voting for Jason Chaffetz. Some call his immigration policy impractical, but a true understanding of the rule of law evidences that it is the only defensible position as the law currently stands.

Yes, this is a federal issue, but the states now have to deal with it because of Bush/Cannon efforts to enable illegal immigration. The best thing we can do to send a message to congress is get Chris Cannon out of there!

This immigration issue is a problem that is not going away and can't be swept under the rug. While we need to be compassionate, we cannot allow others to use that same compassion to take away the very liberties that we hold dear. We can't allow those that would use our compassion to take food out of our kids mouths, or to take away retirement dollars from our baby boomers that worked hardto earn it and give it to somebody who has given nothing to the system. We don't need more rhetoric, we need someone willing to stand firm for Utah and that is why I am supporting Jason Chaffetz.
