Wow, many years of wonderful service. Thanks for putting attention on a silent hero. I'm sure his family misses him.

I will forever be greatful to have known such a great man! I met him in Mexico City, when I was 17 and not allowed to serve a mission yet. During our stake conference I approached him and asked him if it would be possible to serve a mission now...he looked at me, then he told my stake president to fill out my papers and send them directly to him. So, after my junior year of high school, I received my mission call to Mexico Torreon Mission! Two great years of my life, and I thank him for listening to me, and, of course, been close to the Spiritof inspiration.
He has always been, and will always be in my heart, and my thoughts. My prayers are with his family.
When I was a stake president, I took the 13 bishops and their wives to St. George. There, I was surprise to see Elder Fyans for the second time! and, as the temple president, he took us to places (within the temple)that are not usually open to anybody. He shared many spiritual experiences and with tears in our eyes, we thanked him for sharing for a great day!

A great example of servant leadership. As a new member from the Pacific, in the 70's, I looked forward to reading his talks given during conference. He always seemed to resonate and help
with my faith and testimony. He had a simple but powerful way of preaching the gospel, and I could always feel his deep humility and love for the Savior and people who were new in the church. Never had a chance to meet him in person, but grateful for the great legacy he leaves behind.

I had 'issues' as a young man, so when later I wanted to serve a mission, I had to have an interview with a General Authority to be sure I was worthy and prepared to serve. J. Thomas Fyans was that G.A. After 1 1/2 hours of discussion about testimony, comittment and service, he looked at me, paused, and said, "I could not prevent you from going to Mexico. There are numerous people there that only you will be able to reach." Those prophetic words resonated with me throughout the two years and through my life. My life was truly changed by this man who was in tune with the Spirit, and served in an unassuming, steadfast way.

When I got off my mission I was struggling to adjust back to everyday life. My father had known
Elder J. Thomas Fyans for awhile and so he set it up for me to talk to him. I appreciated the counsel that he gave. Also the peace that he brought. He will be missed

Grandpa Fyans was an example to all. We can only hope to follow in his footsteps. I will be eternally grateful for his service, love, example, and legacy. My prayers are with Grandma. We love you.
