a 55 mph speed limit?! You tell me from the day it opens who will obey that limit? You will need officers from every city the highway passes through, the Davis county Sheriff as well as the highway patrol to enforce the limit.

I think the biggest issue is are the walkways really safe when they are so close to a road where someone is driving 55-75 mph? The walkways are such a great idea if they're built properly so cyclists can be on one and walkers on another, but will the berm be enough to save a pedestrian. Right now the berm isn't big enough and it will be intimidating to walk along the road.
The trees will be a great touch, but be real it's still a road not a walking resort.

I agree. If they change the speed limit to 75, we will only get tickets for going 15 over.

The state patrol doesn't enforce the speed limit on I-15, so why would they enforce it on the Legacy Highway? Maybe that can deputize members of the Sierra Club to run down speeding motorists on their bicycles or Rocky Anderson can take down license plate numbers while he is walking along the pedestrian path enjoying the mosquitoes. What a joke!!

People are so negative today. Just be happy it is almost done. Whining added hundreds of millions of dollars to the project. Lets not try to make it mroe expensive.

utahman, you will obey the speed limit. walkways, don't walk along the Parkway if you are scared.

Here's hoping the design and construction will allow a higher speedlimit, that the speedlimit will be raised to match that on I-15, and that a court throws out the agreement between the state and the extortion group that included Pebble Anderson and the Sierra Club. Otherwise they will demand a seat at the table any time we want to build a road, thus becoming an extra-governmental party to government not elected by or answerable to the electorate.

I agree with "whiners". When are we going to be grateful for the things we have. Use it and don't complain so much. Seems like everything that is reported, someone has to complain. No matter how positive the subject might be. Let's remember there are places in the world that are grateful for things as simple as clean water to drink. I will just say that I am happy for all the things that are done to help make life easier. New wider better roads are one of those things. To think how far we can drive in just one day is truelly remarkable. Especially when you think about what our capabilities where just 100 years ago. I have a picture of my grandparents that show them going on their honeymoon in a covered wagon. Stop, think, and be grateful.

For all of you nay-sayers, keep going what ever speed you want to. I'll be waiting for you. And when I pull you over for breaking the law, don't make stupid excuses about what everybody else is doing or put on that syrupy, sickening "innocent" act. You've told me what your intentions are and you know what mine are. I have a job to do and I will continue to do it well. Oh sure, you'll get away with it once or twice - maybe even more - but I will eventually convince most of you that compliance is the best policy. If you don't like how the speed laws are written, get them changed.

Driving at 55 is not only a savings in gas mileage but will prove to be a boon to safety. If obeyed this speed limit will prove in time that the Legacy is safest road to travel in Utah.
Utahans, I drive daily with so many of you that choose to go 10-15 or more over the limit. Daily I pass an accident. Once one driver starts speeding, everyone around them seems to join in with no thought to any consequence or risk. The "if I don't get caught then its okay" mentality will for sure get you there faster...but that is if you get there at all! An accident can happen to you.
Can't we for a change, slow down, think of others that we share the road with, maybe even give a small boost to the environment and save some gas. At least on the Legacy? I will be happy to drive that highway at 55.
Can't we give a little more than we take for once.

The 55 MPH speed limit was to protect the wildlife and habitat, not the people. It was one of the concessions to get the project to move forward. Live with it. It is not a toll road.
That said, the one at 5800 West, the connection from 201 to Lehi won't have that limit, and it shouldn't be a toll road.

Surely you must be joking about Utah drivers going 10-15 mph over the speed limit. That's hardly possible when such a majority in this state believe that we should "obey and sustain the law."

The UHP does pull people over on I-15 by the way. I know from experience. I have seen people drive crazy like it's a race car game and I have seen them get away with it. The police can't be every where. I am positive if they were present when someone was driving crazy they would pull them over. People will always speed even if the speed limit was 100. The best idea is to get out of their way so they don't involve you in their accident. They will get caught eventually. AGAIN lets quit complaining and enjoy our wonderful country.

@UHP,
It would seem you take more pleasure in enforcing petty rules and having power than helping society be safer. Please re-think what life is about.
@ Give a little bit,
The purpose of a road is to get somewhere. Preferrably in the fastest and safest manner possible. It is not to save gas, give back, or to think of others. Those are things people should be doing not roads. Perhaps you could donate to the food bank and then go drive 65 on Legacy.

Kudos to whiner, kwt, UHP and Give a little bit. My two cents is this: you all will be doing 55 mph on all major highways for no other reason than to save fuel. You have seen the last of $3.00 per gallon, the price will never go back. Most of you are too young to remember the gas crunch of the early 1970's. I lived through it. We voluntarily drove at 55 mph long before it became law. Air resistance on your car increases exponentially for each one-mile-per-hour increase in speed. Thus speed eats gas like no tomorrow. If you want to speed, you nay have to decide between driving and eating. The era of cheap food is also gone. Think about it.
