Miles is a Timpview grad, not a provo grad.
Eric | 7:54 a.m. May 18, 2008
Dick, Miles went to Timpview.

Stay Put Cummard!! | 9:19 a.m. May 18, 2008
I always liked what I say from Miles in the few minutes he got. I think he will be much more of a true center and force down low. Plaisted had the athleticism of a small forward but unfortunately didn't have the offense of either a small forward or the post position he had to play. If he had an outside shot or could face the basket and put the ball on the floor he would have been unstoppable. But now with the players we have I actually see us setting all kinds of three point shot records. We are now a team built for the three. Cummard, JT and Jimmer are all downtown players. Miles really does provide that change of pace true post presence. Stay here Cummard - this will be your team and after averaging over 20 a game and a repeat MWC Player of the Year you will get a lot more looks than you would now. You have graduated so you can really coast your senior year and just concentrate on hoops and winning one in the NCAAs. And Miles, work on your foul shots as much as your threes. We need you above 70%.

inaccurate article, AGAIN
Ernest T. Bass | 10:08 a.m. May 18, 2008
I've yet to meet an actual "real informed fan" who is a byu fan so Dick is actually accurate on this one.
UTAH BRUINS | 12:08 p.m. May 18, 2008
I think miles is over rated. They should have never passed up on the Wesley kid, and everyone will see that next year when Tai works Chris at energy solutions! Go Utah State!
Good for Plaisted | 12:15 p.m. May 18, 2008
Dude starts making pro money (probably denominated in Euros), gets away from Coach (who he doesn't get along with), doesn't risk getting injured in college, and starts paying some real tithing.
Bubba | 12:25 p.m. May 18, 2008
Miles is no where near the player that Plaisted was. BYU is going to have a rude awakening in the MWC this year, especially if Cummard leaves. To everything, turn, turn, turn, there is a season turn, turn, turn.
Once again | 1:57 p.m. May 18, 2008
the pathetic yewts jump aboard on a BYU article to try and spin their way out of the miserable place their own bb program is in today. Nice try but you are still a failure at this point and will continue to be so until you find a real coach who can recruit some real players to the sorry program that exists at the yew today. But, please, keep posting your pathetic little jabs at BYU. It just makes it that much sweeter when we kick your sorry yewts into the hardwood and the grass each year.
Re: Once again | 3:48 p.m. May 18, 2008
I'm not quite sure what BYU has accomplished in basketball. A MWC champion means nothing...UNLV has proven to be the best team the past two years. Before BYU can ever talk smack in basketball JUST WIN ONE NCAA TOURNAMENT GAME YOU LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
re: re: Once again | 5:16 p.m. May 18, 2008
who are you a fan of? Has your team won recently in the NCAA tournament. If you want to be critical and bash on other peoples teams you need to grow up. Talk about your own not everybody elses.
Re: Once Again | 6:47 p.m. May 18, 2008
Great comments -- you and your buddies sit together in church today and think those up?
Too Much to Ask? | 6:55 p.m. May 18, 2008
Is it too much to ask that some local journalist, Dick Harmon seems the perfect candidate, get inside Trent Plaisted's choice and write an article that tells, if not the whole story, at least a bigger part of the story than has been told so far?

It just can't be that Trent's agent told him Trent will be a first-round NBA draft pick, 'cause that's not going to happen.

Must be a combination of the European money and note getting along with Coach Rose?

What's really up?
What'sUP | 8:50 p.m. May 18, 2008
What's really up is that Rose is not a coach for improving big men. To improve you have to do it on their own. Show me who coaches the big men for BYU. Trent knows that. The only time the offense went to Trent was usually when their three's were not falling. Trent played very well against top ten teams. Let's remember that. If Rose committed to run the offense more around Trent and help him face the basket perhaps Trent would be back. He's better off to play somewhere else where he can improve. Miles is a good player but he will not replace Trent Plaisted. Let's be real.
Rich | 9:44 p.m. May 18, 2008
I enjoyed watching BYU this year. Too bad they weren't on Dish Network a few more times. Rose is an amazing coach and got a lot out of his players. I was amazed at how much he helped Cummard improve. When I saw him as a freshman, I liked Lee's attitude, but his shot was so bad and he was so skinny that I didn't see the big improvement for which he was destined. Plaisted also got better though I questioned his judgment at times. Some of the shots he took reminded me of some of Dwight Howard's bricks. He must learn to take what the defense gives him and stop trying to play 1 on 2 or 1 on 3. He's among the fastest and best-jumping big men in the upcoming draft, and I see him as going in the late first round or second round. He'll probably be in the D League next year. If he had dark skin, he would be highly touted. BYU has accomplished a lot in the last two years -- just think about where they were compared to now. And Rose has to take the praise.
Round and Round | 10:35 p.m. May 18, 2008
What comes around goes around, I guess next year will be a return to the 1 and 23 record. Everyone is leaving. The ship is sinking.
Dollar is 20% Cheaper than Euro | 10:52 p.m. May 18, 2008
In other words, even a $200,000 contract in Italy or France is worth an extra $40,000 to Plaisted if he gets paid in Euros. Easy decision for Trent. He pays his agent 10 percent and still makes 10 percent more than he would if he signed in the NBA for the same money.
Here's What's up | 8:22 a.m. May 19, 2008
Call this decision the "Lacey" exodus. The DUI episode gave Trent a black-eye and he's having a tough time living that one down. All he wants is a clean start where his wife's rep doesn't shadow him.
poi | 9:54 a.m. May 19, 2008
Miles will be a major disappointment! He is slow, doesn't jump will, foul prown, can't shoot free throws, doesn't have a real feel for his role in the offense, and shows a nasty temper that will get him in trouble.(remember the Bogut kick)

He may benefit from trent leaving but neither trent or BYU will!
Hollywood | 11:05 a.m. May 19, 2008
Have fun in Europe, Trent. Your agent must have been smoking something good when he suggested you were ready for the NBA.

Seriously, though, isn't the primary purpose of college to improve one's ability to land a good job? If Trent were serious about making the NBA, he'd stay another year, try to be a dominant force in a weak conference and then get drafted in the 1st round, where he'd get a guaranteed 3-yr deal. But even if Trent does go to Europe, he'll make 200K+. So mission accomplished if he and Lacey want to take the $ and run right now.

I'm a BYU fan, but I don't think Trent is 1st-round talent. Mid to late second, perhaps. But who knows, maybe the Jazz have told his agent they'll draft him at 25 (or whatever their slot is). Good way to increase the local fan base. After all, didn't the Jazz once trade for Fred Roberts? With Price and Plaisted you'd have two UT college teams covered. Now who is available as a FA from the UofU (other than Van Horn)?
Philly | 12:10 p.m. May 19, 2008
Great, Just Great. We go from an athletic big guy who can't shoot, defend, and who disappears when a double team comes, to a guy who is slow, still can't shoot (other than the threes that he hit a long time ago, or in a gym without a defender), and who comes from a high school that freaks out if they can't have everything (see the first two posts).
I love my cougs, as most of you yewts that I have ticked off in the past will attest, but I am concerned if this is all that we have to look forward to over the next few years.
re:whats up | 12:27 p.m. May 19, 2008
coach rose is a great coach! look at what he's done, you can't argue with that. If anyone knows how to play the big man position it would be coach rose. The man played on an awesome houston team with all star players and could coach anywhere in the country. it was trents decision, leave it at that.
Just Maybe | 12:28 p.m. May 19, 2008
There have been several examples of players who's game did not exactly fit into their college system and played much better in the NBA. Jordan is the prime example but there are a lot more regular Joe examples as well. Plaisted can run and jump with the best of them. If he gets on a team where he is just asked to exploit his athleticism, crash the boards and fill the lane on fast breaks he could find a roster spot. With all his offensive liabilities you have to admit there have been few if any his size at BYU (Fred Roberts, Timo Sarelinian maybe) that could run and finish on the break like he could. The NBA is an uptempo run and gun league where a third of the points come off breaks.
miles | 12:51 p.m. May 19, 2008
miles is so much more of an all around player than trent. trent never could face up and take someone off the dribble. miles can. he has a sweet jumpshot, good post skills, and a great passer. trent only had his little jump hook that would only fall 35-40% of the time or he'd get blocked by someone who is 6'7. miles is slow??? what are you talking about? i'll agree that he doesn't have as good a vertical as trent but he can definitely run. miles at least plays like he's 6'11 or more. trent at times played like hes 6'6. miles will be extremely sweet for the cougs this season. yall miles critics will be pleasantly surprised.
Miles Fan | 12:57 p.m. May 19, 2008
The 'Bogut Kick' is exactly what I love about Chris Miles (Bogut, aka Dirty Aussie, deserved it and had it coming). My husband and I have loved him since that moment and we cheered him on every time he stepped on the floor this last season. He has the potential to be a more well-rounded post player than Plaisted. Best wishes to Plaisted and welcome to the floor Miles!
Hawk | 2:00 p.m. May 19, 2008
Miles will do well if he can tolerate the duck bites (aka, ewe fans) and their "informed" comments. Good luck to the NexGen Cougar.
True Blue | 4:24 p.m. May 19, 2008
Can't imagine any University of Utah fans making it all the way here on this blog thread -- but, if so, please know that there are many BYU fans with more class than "Miles Fan" and "Hawk."

Good luck to Trent and Chris!
haunyocker | 4:40 p.m. May 19, 2008
Some posters are classless idiots. For example "Here's What's Up". Blaming Lacey for an unfortunate incident that was unintentional and not typical of her. I'm sure it was difficult both for her and Trent. I detest self-righteous, self-serving dipsticks like "What's Up" for the drivel in his post. I would call him the typical yewt gilding jerk, but that would be too kind.
PS: Vacuous yewt posts constantly illustrate the intellectual limitations of those who write (though poorly) but can't do, while attempting to be as hurtful as possible. Crawl back under your rock.
Re: haunyocker | 7:47 p.m. May 19, 2008
Vacuous yewt posts? As compared to the statesman-like views of Brother Hawk and Sister Miles Fan? Right!
Anonymous | 10:38 p.m. May 19, 2008
Miles will struggle next year, especially when up against Neville from Utah and Hamga from UNLV. Cougar fans are going to miss both Plaisted and Collinsworth. If Cummard leaves, and I hope he does not, it could be a real tough year in, and even more so, away from Provo.
re:Once again | 11:48 p.m. May 19, 2008
So did you get what you wanted out of your pathetic comments? It would be real interesting to see what you have to say if you had to sign your name?
Your probably the guy that always goes on the "yewts" sites and trashes them. Oh well. I guess you missed the Sunday School lesson on LOVE ONE ANOTHER!!!
Spencer | 9:22 a.m. May 20, 2008
You guys are all stupid.
Chris Miles... ugh! | 2:24 p.m. May 20, 2008
If Chris Miles is the starting center this year, we are in for a LONG season. I will give him credit for bulking up since high school, but I didn't see anything in the minutes he played last season that would make me hopeful that will be a strong contributor this season. I sure hope that Rose has a decent JC transfer center up his sleeve or we are in trouble, and I just can't stand the thought of a BYU center being owned by Son of Beaker (Luke).
Trent Jump? | 3:18 p.m. May 20, 2008
Since when could Trent jump? We've heard for the last 3 years of a 40+ inch vertical leap but never saw it. He lost tip-offs all the time. Got out rebounded by 6'8" guys and his shot blocked. He couldn't guard anyone close to his height. With all that athleticism and a 40+ inch vertical leap he never should have gotten beat at tip-off, never should have been blocked or out rebounded and definitely should have been able to contain players 6'10" and above.

Miles is a better fit for center, no question. Miles can actually shoot too.
Give HIm a Chance | 6:23 p.m. May 20, 2008
Several memories of Miles. He wasn't ready to guard Bogut his freshman year. He wasn't in 100% shape last year after his mission, but he still contributed. Miles may not dominate some games like Plaisted did. However, he has potential to be a very good center and may play more consistently than his predecessor. I don't think BYU's cupboard is bare even without Plaisted and Cummard. One small request, Please work on those free throws. Opportunity knocks for you Miles.
