Half the Kingdom? | 7:56 a.m. May 18, 2008
That is not a biblical phrase...its in the Book of Mormon
Razoo | 9:00 a.m. May 18, 2008
Both really. Mark 6:23. Has basically the same reference.
He Deserves It All | 9:01 a.m. May 18, 2008
Miller could tear down the entire team and build it anew around Williams and the Jazz would be successful. He is the one player who we need to spend his career here. I really like Ak's intangibles but I think we can get so much more value by trading him for an expiring contract and getting a big, tough center to compliment what we already have. Maybe Fez will be that guy but right now we are very weak inside defensively with Memo and Booz. Love their offense but they cannot stop anyone. AK's value is much higher right now than it was at this time last season. It's time to pull the trigger on that one.

Last time I checked, Mark 6:3 was in the bible!

Well said! Give'm the moon, Larry.
It's in both ... | 9:11 a.m. May 18, 2008
The first commenter is correct in that such phrasing is indeed found in the Book of Mormon (the book of Alma). But it is also found in the Bible:

Esther 5:3 Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.

Re: Half the Kingdom? | 9:40 a.m. May 18, 2008
Actually it's in the Bible twice--in Esther (5:3,6)and in Mark (6:23).

Who cares where the verse is found!
GO JAZZ!!
Sign DWILL!!!
Are you kidding me? | 10:56 a.m. May 18, 2008
This article is about Williams resigning (which may or may not happen) and you people want to debate scriptures? LAME! Fez is not the option. He'll never see the light of day in the NBA. Mark my words.

Please resign with the Jazz D-Will. It would suck to see you playing for another team. We also need to keep Millsap. I personally think Williams, Brewer, and Millsap are the future.

Starting 5 in 5 years:

Williams (PG)
Almond (SG)
Brewer (SF)
Milsap (PF)
Fesenko (C)
Fez? | 1:03 p.m. May 18, 2008
Chad, if you're going to make that prediction, I hope, for the sake of the Jazz and all future Jazz fans, that Fesenko learns how to play big. Otherwise we'll run into another big man trying to throw up finger rolls in the waning minutes of our seasons. I'm happy with the rest of your line up, but Fez better spend more quality time with his friends down in the D-league.

Umm...no
Jeff | 1:39 p.m. May 18, 2008
There's only a 3 year difference in age between Millsap and Boozer, I'm pretty sure Boozer's the future.
The Other Guy | 2:39 p.m. May 18, 2008
I like Williams, so much that part of me hopes he goes to larger franchise where he can get the recognition and experience (rings) he deserves. With the Jazz he'll always be an afterthought to the other superstars around the league.
I LOVE D-WILL !!!! | 3:26 p.m. May 18, 2008
Give him all the money in CHINA, And CUT HIM a I.O.U. from the broke U.S.A. $145 Million for 7 Years plus a .25% percent of all LHM holdings. D-Will. He Is UTAH JAZZ. Chris paul cant hold his J-strap, (crap I will bet i cant sat that) GO JAZZ , Oh one more thing trade BOOZER FOR KING JAMES and i promiss we will be champions
BOOZER 2 nice 2 be good | 3:32 p.m. May 18, 2008
WE need a edge, someone to KICK SOME BUTT when it gets tough... alla...THE bIG DOG, or karl malone type , BOOZER plays weak...LETS TRADE AK-47 and BOOZER FOR KING JAMES.......................
Dodger | 4:11 p.m. May 18, 2008
If the L.A. Lakers played like the L.A. Dodgers, the Jazz would be movin' on!
Williams Hugest Fan | 4:26 p.m. May 18, 2008
... If Deron goes I go with him...
Millsap | 5:10 p.m. May 18, 2008
Paul Millsap brings more to the table than Boozer. Sure Boozer can score, but so can a lot of other people on this team. Paul brings energy and toughness to the defensive end, something that many of the jazz players (Boozer) sorely lack. Plus I don't know if you have noticed, Millsap is not afraid of contact on the offensive end of the floor like Boozer is.

If i were GM i'd be trading Boozer and getting a defensive center for a big man. Okur and Boozer are both good players, but two big man who can only score and not play defense aren't going to get it done in this league. Boozer made Odom look like the All-star not the other way around.

Oh and if Deron Williams leaves, we have no chance. Dwill is the leader and the one who wants it the most. No guts, no glory. Boozer hasn't got any guts.
D-Will is a stud | 5:34 p.m. May 18, 2008
If it wasn't for Williams the Jazz wouldn't have made it as far as they did in the playoffs. He put the entire team on his back at times when Booz and some of the others seemed to disappear. Chris Paul is awesome, but I think the Jazz picked the guy that would work best for this team. There are few players that impress me with their play, and DWill is one of them.
Yes to King James | 6:07 p.m. May 18, 2008
I agree with I-Love D Will. Where we get killed is the lack of defense from our big men. Memot just stood there watching Pau Gasol rip down rebound after rebound for 1-2 foot shots. He single handedly gave them game 5 in the last few minutes.

Keep D-Will, Boozer, Millsap, Korver & Brewer. Use Kerilenko, Memot, Price and offer a car dealership for King James or a stud big man! Why didn't we find a way to get Pau when he was on the list?

Pau along with the amazing trade of Korver would have handed Utah players the prize and their hand would be just slightly heavier due to a ring blinging it in a few weeks!
GoodGuyGary | 8:01 p.m. May 18, 2008
Isn't Mike Miller's contract is up this year? We should also steal David Lee from Knicks or Kris Kaman. Collins and Hart, you are free to go.
LeBron James huh? | 9:40 p.m. May 18, 2008
First of all the Cavs would never trade James. Second James would never want to play for a small market team like Utah, even if the idea was getting tossed around LeBron would let Utah how he would leave when he's up for free agency in a season or two.
Rich | 9:52 p.m. May 18, 2008
Hey, Mr. Anonymous (Are you kidding me?), Give us your name so that we can mark your words. I will wager a night on the town that not only will Fez see the light of day in the NBA but that he will score at least 8 points a game and get at least 8 rebounds a game within 10 years. I'll be 65 by then but should still be able to put down a big porterhouse steak.
Why "Rebuild"? | 10:01 p.m. May 18, 2008
We've already got the nucleus of a championship team! I admit that I was not a big fan of A.K. last year. He's the one who pretty much disappeared in the playoffs. And yet, this year, A.K. was SOLID in his role: rebound, block shots, score a reliable 10-12 pts a game. He's so quick and he's got those looong arms. I never realized how many blocks he was racking up until I paid attention to it during the season. So, sure, we need another star player to make us more solid, but "rebuild" around Williams?...I'd think you're nuts.

Oh, and one more thing....I'd gladly NEVER win a championship (and I want one, even several, reeeeally bad) IF it meant bringing someone in to the Jazz who has low class and lower morals. That's one thing I like about Larry Miller AND Jerry Sloan. With those guys, character DOES count. It may be old school but it means more than a ring on somebody else's finger while you chant "we're number one".
Kyle | 10:14 p.m. May 18, 2008
Trade Kirilenko ASAP. He makes $15+ million in 2008/09, $16+ in 2009/10, and then $17+ in 2010/11. He's not worth anywhere near that money, and he'll never have any more value than he does right now. AK is better off playing the 4, and he'll never do that in Utah with Millsap and Boozer here.

If the Knicks don't get a top 5 pick in the lottery, I say that we trade AK, Hart, Collins and our 1st rounder for Marbury and the Knicks' 1st rounder. Waive Marbury and then draft Kevin Love. AK would be a stud in D'Antoni's offense. Love will be a force in the middle and be able to shoot from the outside.
scott | 10:34 p.m. May 18, 2008
Millsap should be the future for the Jazz at the 4. He brings some toughness and defense as other posters mentioned. I would not be disappointed at all to see Boozer traded, because he has NO defense. Even Memo plays some D in playoffs, but Boozer doesn't. Also I'd like to see Harpring's minutes cut and more time for Miles, Harp may be tough, but he's about three steps too slow now.
MTN | 10:37 p.m. May 18, 2008
Do you think Fez would let Pau run him over like that? If SLOAN would have given Fez ten minutes a game, we wouldn't have won or lost any more regular season, AND he would have been ready to help in the playoffs. What do we need, a big shot blocking center, right? Well we have one sitting in suit. Ditch Collins (buy him out if you have to) and get Fez some minutes. Also, did anyone notice that CJ played well in all four minutes he had? The personnel are ALREADY HERE!
Should of Taken CP3! | 11:10 p.m. May 18, 2008
Watch as he beats the Spurs tomorrow! Bad Move O'Connor!!!
DWill's Team | 11:31 p.m. May 18, 2008
There's no question as to who's the best player in this team. The Jazz is Deron's team, build around him, not Boozer. If I could go back in time I'd take Deron over Chirs Paul again and again.

Boozer, man up, or give back some of your money to keep Deron here, he actually works at getting better.
Anonymous | 1:37 a.m. May 19, 2008
I don't think I've seen a meaner cross-over than from D-Will. The dude's a stud! Fork over the $$$ Larry and keep him in Utah. He's the glue that keeps this ship afloat on the Jazz.
AK's got to go | 8:07 a.m. May 19, 2008
I really like AK's game. But he is costing us way too much. His value is as high now as it's been since his all-star years. We need to somehow package him, Hart and Almond for an expiring contract and a big, tough inside player to compliment Booz and Okur and free up some cash to pay Williams, Millsap, Brewer and Price what we need to keep them long term.
Kevin Love | 8:40 a.m. May 19, 2008
All the Jazz need is a fundamentally sound true center. All of the recent championship teams have had one (although Detroit's Wallace was mainly defense). The Jazz need a Tim Duncan type that can dominate the paint. Kevin Love would be perfect in Sloans offense. And he could outlet to D-will for game winning fast breaks.
DWill Owns CP3 | 8:46 a.m. May 19, 2008
Not only has DWill's team beaten CP3's team like 8 of 10 times since the two joined the league, but DWill's stats are much better than CP3's stats in those game. If you went back to college you would see the same trend.

You cannot just look at the overall stats of the season when comparing the two. They are on different teams and in different systems. Had the Jazz taken CP3, there is a good possibility that DWill would be the one with the better numbers.

Lastly, at the end of the game I would rather have DWill shooting the final shot than CP3. The extra 3 inches make a huge difference when trying to get off a shot and DWill is a better shooter (his percentage has been here each year--the only reason Paul averages more points is because he shoots more).

DWill is incredible!!!!
Trade possibilities | 9:19 a.m. May 19, 2008
What would it take to trade for Dwight Howard? Think how awesome the Jazz would be with Howard instead of Boozer or Okur.

Also, the idea of trading AK-47 to the Knicks is a good one. He would fit D'Antoni's system well. Hopefully Utah will look into options for trading AK to the knicks for some muscle (NOT for Marbury!!).
Good for AK | 9:43 a.m. May 19, 2008
A max contract for Williams would also be a great burden off of AK's shoulders. With Williams being the Jazz's max money player, AK doesn't have to deal with the pressure that this label brings, and he can just play basketball. AK has shown that he plays better when the pressure is not on.

On the other hand, Williams thrives on playing under pressure, and a max money contract, combined with his second-team all-NBA accomplishment (despite, ironically, not being named to the Western Conference all-star team), will solidify his position as the leader of this team. Sign him up for as long as he wants to play--the biggest no-brainer in the history of earth.
What? | 12:25 p.m. May 19, 2008
Lebron James to Utah?!??!!!! The fans that think that is a possibility are the same ones beating the drum for BYU to win a championship this coming year. Craziness all around.
Kyle | 12:39 p.m. May 19, 2008
It's a no brainer that we have to sign D-Will for as much as it takes. As for D-Will vs CP3 - we have who we have and that guy has already taken us to the Final Four. The NBA (I'm suggesting refs here) probably won't let the Spurs lose tonight anyway.

As for AK, he has trade value in terms of talent, but not many teams will take him because his contract. That's why I suggested the Knicks because they want to deal Marbury bad enough to pay for AK. Utah could get rid of Collins and Hart in the process which opens up roster spots for Almond and Fesenko. Plus, we could draft a player like Love and have the money to re-sign Millsap and Miles.

It comes down to this - would you rather have AK in 2 years or Millsap, Miles and a player like Kevin Love in 2 years.
Jazz Fan Forever | 12:48 p.m. May 19, 2008
Starting 5 in 5 years...
(PG) Deron Williams
(SG) Morris Almond
(SF) Kyle Korver
(PF) Paul Millsap
(C) Fes

We will totally kick butt.
Trade Opportunities | 1:04 p.m. May 19, 2008
Despite his playoff woes, Carlos Boozer was pretty consistent throughout the season. I'd keep him on the squad unless you can get a screaming deal for someone else.

In my minds eye the tradeable players on the roster are:

Andrei Kerilinko
Mehmet Okur
Jason Hart
Jarron Collins

And possibly Matt Harpring.
Are you kidding? | 2:03 p.m. May 19, 2008
So much advice, so little content.
Kyle | 2:28 p.m. May 19, 2008
Players that are expendable: Kirilenko, Collins, Hart and Harpring

Expendable players that have trade value:

Kirilenko
Collins (no team will trade to pay him $2 mil unless he's part of a bigger deal - like an AK deal)
Hart (no team will trade to pay him $2.5 mil unless he's part of a bigger deal - like an AK deal)

Expendable players that don't have trade value:

Harpring (no team will trade to pay him $6 mil the next 2 years)
Illinois Loyalty | 2:36 p.m. May 19, 2008
I don't think the Jazz are badly in need of restructuring. A little more consistency in defensive decision-making, and a few better shots on offense, and we would've taken Games 5 and 6 against the Lakers. Considering how young this team is, and how close they are to being championship material, it seems pretty reasonable to hold onto our collective horses for another year or two while this group of players reaches their potential as a unit.
stan | 3:50 p.m. May 19, 2008
D-Will is a rock, i agree that statistically he has shut Chris Paul down almost every time he has faced him, and if they had the chance to meet each other in the playoffs i have no doubt that he would have done the same again! Trade Collins and Hart and get some defenders. This team will be right back in the running next year to take it all!
JAZZ PHAN 801 ! | 3:56 p.m. May 19, 2008
Trade Kirilenko for somebody like Corey Maggette sounds real nice now, I would go for that. How about signing somebody like Alonzo Mourning.
We need interior defense, that doesnt mean overhaul the whole team, If we had somekind of presence in the paint that would help alot. Just venting is all, Whatever the Jazz have on the court, I'll be cheering for! GO JAZZ
Kyle | 4:23 p.m. May 19, 2008
We could wait it out and see how this same team does next year, but AK will be even harder to trade next year than he will be next year because he makes a whopping $16.5 for 2009/2010 which just happens to be the same year that Deron's max contract will start at about $15 million AND Millsap will have to be re-signed.

It is impossible that the Jazz keep the current roster, sign Deron and Millsap AND stay under the luxury tax for 2009/2010. IMPOSSIBLE. The only way would be to trade someone now or after next season or we lose Millsap or Deron to free agency.
Rock Man- switching kissing UP | 5:39 p.m. May 19, 2008
I though you "hearted" KOBE.

Mr. Rock,

Please, have an original thought sometime.
Kyle | 5:48 p.m. May 19, 2008
Corey Maggette won't work because he will make 8+ million and Kirilenko will make $15+ million. The Clippers don't have another player making the $5-$7 million range that would make the trade work.

One trade option could be to trade Hart, Collins and our 2nd round pick to the Nets for Trenton Hassell. He is a great perimeter defender and this trade would allow us to open up one more roster spot. Unfortunately, he would add to the cap for 2009/2010.

Or Utah could trade AK, Hart and Collins to the Cavs for Wally and Damon Jones. That would open up a ton of cap after next season.
Who to really trade | 7:00 p.m. May 19, 2008
Well, I would definately like to mention that we are so bloody young. We really are. I really thought we had the chance this year, but our lack of experience and confidence gave up some games down the stretch. Now, here is my problem. AK is great for a trade, but for who? There is no real realistic trade we can get for a SF that would benefit us. Second, I love Booz to death, though I know if Millsap doesn't get a starting position with us soon, he will get it somewhere else. So My thought is to trade AK, Hart, and Collins for a decent big man now. Even if he is old. Then you Bring Millsap to the SF on Defense. Then on offense have Millsap run the PF, Booz at C with his left hook, and Okur (Money Man) running the other wing. Defense will increase, really to have one more beef man to congest things, and offense will soar even more. But that is just me.

Peace out my Jazz Brothers. I will be back to blogging in two years...(Argentina... I will be informed)
