Please try and reserve the word "hero" to those that truly deserve it. David is probably a good kid and obviously has tremendous singing talent but a "hero", come on now. Try thanking a teacher, a police officer, firefighters, military members, or those that actually sacrifice for others.

I just love the exageration of how David has saved the world so to speak. Come on he is a local yocal having his moment of fame and has not done any heroic deed to be called a hero. Good going David but come on people come back to earth

I think it's sort of presumptuous for anyone to tell anyone else how to use the word "hero." I'm sure that anyone who considers David Archuleta a hero also is very grateful to teachers, police officers, firefighters soldiers and others. Admiration for one does not in any way diminish admiration for the others.
I feel so blessed that my world is broad enough that I have had a lot of heroes of different kinds throughout my life.
I personally find David A.'s voice and music inspiring. Although I am a huge fan of his, I probably wouldn't call him a hero of mine. However, I have no problem with those who do. This young man has truly has touched hearts all over the world and inspired people to change their lives for the better. For instance, he has inspired some people with cancer to fight their fights and others to try to change their behavior and become more decent people. I wish all of us could have a positive effect like that on people.
Go David Archuleta!

"Many actions, on a grand or personal scale, can be heroic when performed in the name of love."
So is she saying that Archuleta is doing this out of love? For whom?! I think she just destroyed her own argument.
He's got a great voice and an innocent persona. That's it. He may become a hero someday. But today he's just trying to break into the music business and win a competition.

This is getting crazy. I think David has a nice voice. Nice. It's not heroic to sing on a reality TV singing competition. People are placing a mantle on young David that he does not deserve, and, seriously, never asked for. How would he react to people saying he's their hero? He would be flattered, no doubt, and then he would say, "But...why?"
And to the letter writer: how has he given "hope" to thousands of people? They hope he wins? They hope they can buy his album? They hope they can also sing on a TV talent show? It really makes no sense, and it is these kinds of exaggerations that make this whole "hero/not-a-hero" debate a little bit frightening.
He's a nice kid with a nice voice. Don't make him something he's not, for HIS sake...

Hope? 10:06
I have not watched one episode of American Idol. That said, David Archuleta has given me more hope than a certain politician who claims that he is the hope of the world.
