I just went to the grocery store yesterday.

Fruits and vegetable are going through the roof! Unless you buy them in a can...

Fruits and vegetables in cans are still healthy. Make everything from scratch, eliminate chips, soda, and processed foods, and you'll be surprised how much money you can save. Junk food really isn't cheap, and "healthy" doesn't have to be "farm fresh". Frozen veggies are the best!

Healthy foods are very expensive in both dollars and time of preparation compared to unhealthy foods.

A big canister of Quaker Oatmeal costs like $3 and will make close to 40 servings. My breakfast bowl of oatmeal costs me less than the can of Mountain Dew I use for my jumpstart in the morning.

Frozen vegetables can be particularly cheap, and last a long time. Not as tasty as the fresh kind, though.

Eggs and tuna are reasonably cheap and very healthy.

We spend way more on food than we need to. I'd like to make more from scratch, but I don't really know how, nor do most people anymore.

If you really want to find out how much you're wasting on groceries, buy a weeks worth of the basics and see how cheap it is. You'll be amazed.
