It takes a village.

I'm not sure there is much more than what was done. If some family member complains to the police and the police contact the woman (or man) potentially being abused, it is possible that they should verbally give some additional information on how to get help if s/he needs it. But, it is up to the individual to make the move. All we can do is make it easier and make it known that it is out there. If the individual doesn't want to make the move, what more can be done?

I grew up with Tracie, her big sister is my best friend in the world. I love Tracie she was my "little sister" Noone knows that she truly did seek help in the best way that she could. She did leave Peter and move in with her mom and dad. She considered moving in with me, Peter told me that he would kill me and my kids using "Street Justice" After calling and calling he finally got her to go back to him telling her that he loved her and that he was so sorry. Really he just needed her to watch his daughter and needed her kids there to make it look like a happy home to caseworkers. The stupid DCFS caseworker that took the calls from Natalie and Tracie that reported his abuse are at fault. They did nothing. And the letter that Tracie had (that wasn't the first time it was seen) the caseworkers knew. She only stayed to protect her family and friends. The truth is that they endured horrible pyschological abuse and he even monitored her phone calls. I love her and her daughter, she will be missed terribly everyday.
