Planning and zoning issues are some of the most contentious issues cities face. Some city council's will blame the mess on the planning commission. But that ignores the reality that it is the city council that sets the rules, the planning commission just interprets. Shame on South Jordan for wussing out on the discussion. The city council was elected to represent all the residents, not just the developers. Sure, they need to factor private property rights into the equation. But refusing to hold a duly noticed public hearing because the public turned out in force, well that's just chicken.
