Well said, Carol Schofield.

Archuleta is many things, I am sure, and most of them good. But he is not, insofar as I know, a "hero." Specific words have specific meanings, and Archuleta does not fit the definition of "hero."

There is no reason to pervert the menaing of one word when there are dozens of other perfectly good words that will suffice.

Give the kid a little breathing space. He's got growing to do and choices to make. Some of his choices will not be the choices you think a 'hero' should make. So back off and put all those lofty expectations on hold. Every time people overly idolize a public figure they then get upset when he/she doesn't follow the script. Enjoy his talent and back away.

"Singer is a different kind of hero" ?

I'll go along with that, because "different kind" means that you are redefining the word (hero).

Using this logic I am the president of the United States. Albiet a different kind of president of the United States.
He's NO hero | 2:25 p.m. May 18, 2008
David A. is no hero, folks. Never saved a life or served his country- hey, Utahns, American Idol does NOT count as serving your country. He's just some kid from a small town who can sing fairly well. Never going to be a big star, he isn't that good- but he can be fodder for chat for half a year in Utah. Thats about it. He isn't super talented or some musical genius; he's just an anonymous kid who can sing fairly well.
