Kudos to Charles Krauthammer. This is the first time I have ever read about the Palestinian problem from this perspective, and he makes total sense. Finally someone in the media calling a spade a spade. How refreshing! Kudos and thanks to the DNews for publishing this.

There are extremists on both sides causing the conflict. Most Arabs don't care if there is a Jewish state. Most Israelis don't want to fight the Arabs, but there are terrorist groups and suicide bombers on both sides insisting on carrying out this conflict.
My concern is how we continue to demonize the Arab world. Not all Arabs are bad and Israelis good. As a country, we need to stop taking sides. We can denounce terrorist principles, but please let's stop lumping whole cultural or ethnic group into good or bad camps. This kind of mentality makes us think we can invade countries like Iraq. This mentality makes us continue spending our country's money into oblivion by carrying out unnecessary, unconstitutional wars.
Let's stop the hate. Let's go after known terrorists of any country, culture or belief and call them a terrorist. Then, let's stop using labels such as "Islamofascist" that conjure in our minds hatred of a whole religion whose majority are peaceful. Then, let's get our noses out of other countries' business and conflicts. Until they attack us on our soil it's not in our authority to do anything about it.

A biased, and one-sided column, designed to portray Israel as the poor innocent victim. In reality, there is plenty of blame on both sides. They have both been taking an eye for an eye from each other for so long, neither side has any idea what real "win-win" compromise looks like. Blind, one sided rhetoric like this crap from Krauthammer does nothing but fan the flames.

@ Rick ... did you actually read the column or did your anti -Israel disposition just inspire your response? It may have helped if you read the part that said the two countries that recognized Israel through treaties (Egypt and Jordan) have had a decent relationship with Israel.
How was this column one-sided?

Assuming Rick has correctly characterized Mr. Krauthammer's column as one sided, it's a side seldom presented. As Rex Lee once observed, he who knows only his side of an argument knows little of that.

@buck wild ... yes, I actually did read the column. Did you read what I wrote or do you always automatically mis-characterize what people write when they don't agree with you?

Obviously this isn't the best place to hold a "debate" about something as complex as what is going on in the Middle East and quite frankly I'm not even remotely considered an authority on the subject. Nevertheless, obviously Mr. Krauthammer made some valid points about various massive problems the Arabs have caused in the past and are still causing today. But to assume that Israel is somehow this innocent victim ("Isreal's only crime is its insistance on living") is ignorance at its worst. Try doing a little research on the division of resources and water between Isreal and Palestine, not to mention Israel's current settlement policy where they unilaterally go deep into the West Bank, not for security reasons but simply to take the best land for themselves. How would American's respond if another country decided to do that to us? Are the Arab's innocent? Obviously the answer is a big "no". But neither is Israel.

Not so fast - Please point out incidents of Isreali terrorist attacks and suicide bombers. On the rare occasion that an individaul Isreali has attacked Arab civilians it has been soundly condemned by everyone in Israel. Unfortunately, when the frequent Palistinian bomber successfully attacks Israeli civilians there is dancing in the street. Palistinian children are raised that to be a suicide bomber is a holy calling and mothers are proud to have their children die in the manner, taking as many Israelis with them as possible. If Israel stopped defending themselves they would be annialated. If the Arabs stopped fighting there woudl be peace. What does that tell you?
