Don't ever count coach Mitchel out, the guy is old school, doesn't do anything special, just wins.

Worst penalty call in the box I have ever seen. Althought Alta was controlling most of the game, that one call changed the complexion of how the game would progress. It was very frustrating to see a referee have such an negative impact in a playoff game.

Anyone who saw that game knows that a penalty shoulc not have been awarded.

worst penalty call ever. Yes alta was controlling the game but what the article doesn't mention is how much pressure copper hills got early on. Alta was very lucky to escape with a victory the ref earned for them.

Interesting that when a PK goes against Copperhills it is the worst call ever, but just a week ago when the PK was in your favor and you won the game it was a great call. Perspective is everything.
karma | 1:33 p.m. May 14, 2008
...and Copper Hills beat Riverton on a pk in overtime the week before. What goes around!
WOW | 2:01 p.m. May 14, 2008
Richard Harrison... ooooooo he has 13 goals! After viewmont beats Jordan they will crush Alta! Tommy Barrett with 12 goals and Tyler Arbuckle with 14, you cant stop that!
re WOW | 2:49 p.m. May 14, 2008
First off you aren't going to beat jordan, and even if you did you would basically be playing an away game against a very solid team. Juan diego is a block away from alta and the alta fans will probably fill up their side of the football stadium.
I predict this season will be another championship for the all dominant alta soccer program!

Watch Out Wow | 3:37 p.m. May 14, 2008
Only problem with your logic is that the game Semi-Finals and Finals will be played at Woods Cross, which according to your thinking, is essentially a home game for Viewmont.
re WOW WOW | 3:38 p.m. May 14, 2008
using your logic then Viewmont would beat Alta since the game would be at Woods Cross, right near Viewmont, rather than at JD. The Viewmont and Alta coaches are very good friends, that would be a fun game to watch but both of them have tough games to win prior to that.
reality check | 4:11 p.m. May 14, 2008
hey wow, wow wow and wow wow wow. viewmont, who is viewmont? have you seen them with the number 1 up the near past....... me neither. the fact that all region 2 teams are the top 3 teams is not politics, its reality. if viewmont beets jordan, which they wont, they will play alta, cant beet them either. and a neutral field is a neutral field. they made the field up north so that when the region 3 teams drop in semis to down south teams they wont have to drive as far. like i said last week jordan vs. brighton in the finals. every game will be a game second round, but region 2 has depth and a better past record. up north has great soccer, but for what ever reason they cant seem to play on the level of Brighton, Alta and Jordan when the the game is do or die. the best team ever to have come out of the north and one of the best in the past 10 years was the 03 layton team. but again not this year for up north, maybe uhsaa will send 6 teams to help your chances next year.
stuff | 4:16 p.m. May 14, 2008
alta of course, deserved the win. not only are they a better all around soccer program, they are just better than copper hills this year. simple. and dont argue about a stupid pk, that didnt decide the game at all. i will give copper hills the credit they deserve, but sorry, they cannot compete against a team like alta. but, alta will play viewmont, if they beat layton, and alta cannot beat the soon to be state champs of 08. which is viewmont. good luck vw

Where did I say anything about the PK against Riverton being a great call. I didn't even see it.
Did either of you (Interesting & Karma) see either of the fouls. Are you both from Riverton who got kicked out of the playoffs by a 5th place team?

Wow, what a class act. How you thought it was directed at only your post is pretty self serving. Last I checked, Riverton took your region and YOU lost to a last seed in the Region 2. Copperhills needs to stop whining and taking pot shots at everyone. It is getting old in every post and NO I am not from Riverton.

yes copper hills lost to a number 3 team from region 2. That team also was number 3 in the STATE. Last time i checked davis wasn't ranking anywhere near there. Good try riverton, too bad copper hills ruined your perfect region season
re Rethil | 8:50 a.m. May 15, 2008
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Who is the one that took the first pot shot. If you were at the game, tell me that the PK was deserved and why - if not show some class yourself.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. It was simple. The alta player beat his defender into the box and then #2 on copper hills took him out. It was a dirty play. That means pk. Simple as that

lets just give riverton a pat on the back for winning arguably the weakest region in the state with a lineup filled with experienced players. Those experienced players lost at home to davis, when they were supposed to be the riverton team who would finally go somewhere in playoffs. Copper Hills will win region 3 next year, and turn some heads doing it. As i've heard, only 1 player (the GK) that played in the game against alta was a senior and only 4 who played at all were juniors. That young copper hills team gave alta all they could handle, and now will take over as a powerhouse in region 3, as small of a title as that may be.

Just a bystander, but you need to get your facts straight. Davis was ranked 10th in the State in Monday, May 12th DN. Not bad. We are a 5th seed in our Region ranked above the 2-4ths seeds. Viewmont is the only one ranked above us from the region and they are a 4th seed. So as far as keep knocking Davis as a 5th seed, we are a pretty respected 5th seed. I echo the first re:Rethil.
re: Anonymous | 10:57 a.m. May 15, 2008
I believe Riverton does deserve a pat on the back. However weak the region was, they still won by 7 points over the next team. They are a good group of young men with some good talent. Did they want it like everyone else, yes, but came up short. When they planned on how their year would end did they envision it this way, no. Davis is a good team and knew where to put their pressure. They are a great 5th seed. I wish them luck as they continue on. I personally appreciate the class that the Riverton players showed throughout the year. They took a different approach to the game this year with attitudes and it was completely supported by their parents and coaches. Win or lose they can hold their heads up and consider it a great season.

I thought this comment area was designated for alta vs. copper hills.. Everyone else needs to go post on their own articles
