What an incredible game. Both teams played their hardest, but in the end the better team won. To see those boys fight every minute for the win was great to see. Felipe Saltz made saves that one could argue saved the game for RHSM. Jared Accettura being the fastest human being in Utah, was key to our success and congratulations on being named tournament MVP, hoping for the state MVP as well. Brendan Kelly and Donnie White controlled the defense and made it near impossible to get a good opportunity for a shot. Robbie Hull lead this team most of the season, and his great play today wasn't any different. Bobby Kennedy and the coaching staff deserve a lot of credit for the work they've done on these boys. Once again, congratulations RHSM and I look forward to next year.

P.S.: The hair cuts looked fantastic.

Golden goal breakdown - Jared Accetura pressures St. Joe player into forced pass, Brendan Hovsepian-Kelly intercepts and dribbles into attack and passes a lead to Marker makes a great cross for a JB Park header. Max Wolcott also contested the cross for a header and collided with the goalie who cannot get his hands on the ball. It was a true team effort all around, from goalie to defenders to mids to forwards. Congratulations to a great group of boys on the field and off!

A nod to St. Joe's #8 (Ben Cilwick?) for showing a lot of class. He came over independently to the RHSM team, shook their hands and congratulated them almost as soon as their "pile" broke up. Way to set an example of great sportsmanship.

Is this junior high student council elections or a sports blog?

2A shows it is the most exciting and competitive division in Utah.
This was a great final game.

It does not take oversized schools to compete, it takes kids with character, determination and courage. 2A kids are true competitors.
Great Game & Sportsmanship | 11:33 p.m. May 11, 2008
Congrats to both teams. What great players playing a great game.
They all played their hearts out ad showed good sportmanship.
They all stood out with outstanding athleticism.
St. Joe's did not lose this game. Rowland Hall had to fight to win it.
They won as a team.
It took a super team effort to win this battle of the best of Region 14.
Both teams raised their game from last year.
Jared Accettura and Ben Cilwick were both All-State last year, yet they raised their games much higher this year and tied at the top of the dominant Region 14 scoring with 22 goals each. So it was fitting that they matched goals in Regulation time.
The game was ultimately won by the depth and breadth of team play by RHSM. They never say die and fought right up to the last 5 seconds. Felipe Saltz in his first year, made great saves. Senior Donnie White was a great defender all year Brendan Hovsepian-Kelley, J.B. Park and Alex Marker came on so strong late in the season, so it was fitting that they combined for the final winning goal.

First off great game and tourny to RHSM. Im just glad they beat the Jayhawks. There a bunch of hott heads with only two truly good players. DINO AND BEN. I think that they made a huge mistake in not picking Boyce Weber and Tanner Ferreira From ALA in being part of the All tounry team. They elevated there game in the tourny and really helped there team out in the tourny. Tanner being the one who sent Armendariz most of those balls.
2A? | 5:59 p.m. May 12, 2008
Put a 2A against the big schools and see what happens. Congrats on winning but don't go over the top and think you can conquer all the 5A teams. Just my 2cents for 2A Fan.

I'm pretty sure rowland hall only lost to highland 1-0 in a very last second goal.
And how is highland doing in 4A? oh yea, they are in playoffs.
So although I don't think rowland hall can conquer 4A or 5A, they can compete against bigger schools.

P.S. how did JB, Felipe and Walker not make the all tournament team?
especially walker. this man is the fanciest dribbler I've ever seen.

Congrats to RSHM on their hard-fought win. It's tough to beat a team twice during the season and then have to beat them again in the tourney. Both teams were, without a doubt, the two best 2A teams in the state. St. Joe is a great team with a lot of class (SOCCER LOVER must be from ALA...the lowest class of fans I've ever witnessed). The good news for Jayhawk fans....we have 9 seniors next year. Enjoy the trophy, RHSM, because next year it will be ours.

There are 9 returning starters for Rowland Hall. Enjoy the offseason because next year won't be any easier.
