My hats off to the cats and especially Jesse Hartle. I has been a privilege to watch the Gv v. RHS battles the past two years. GV team eliminated any doubt this year who deserved the championship. Congrats to both teams. The two best teams battled for the trophy.
Coach Teeples from Iraq | 8:25 a.m. May 11, 2008
I would just like to congratulate both teams on great seasons. From the outside looking in it is easy to see why these two ball clubs met in the finals. From the parents to the players to the coaches and their communities they support and love their teams. These two teams paid the price to succeed and you cannot deny either team the respect they deserve. Its just too bad one team had to finish second but both communities should be proud of themselves and their teams.

A very convincing win for the Bulldogs. Nice job, Gunnison.

I think the first 8 are deserving of the team.

I have read these comments over the last couple of days and it is sad that parents and fans, who should be "adults" and still crying about an ump or this or that. Grow up!!! I played on a team that won 4 region titles and no state titles. So what. When my last game was done, I did not expect my parents to complain about what happend or the result of the game. Frankly, you should look yourself in the mirror and see if you are real fan and can except the game for what it is..."A GAME!!!" Baseball is a great game and we should let out kids enjoy it.
Are you serious? | 10:16 a.m. May 12, 2008
Are you serious about the umpires changing the South Sevier game? If you really think that, you need a reality check. South Sevier battled back at the end of the season, but there was no way they were beating Gunnison. Say what you want, but the best team won. Besides, did the umpires give Gunnison all of their runs? Last I checked the kids still had to go out, swing the bat, and score runs.
All tourney team | 10:17 a.m. May 12, 2008
If you did not agree with any of the ones that were on it, who should be there? I hope you are not talking about any of the kids from Gunnison.
Richfield Mom | 11:17 a.m. May 12, 2008
Congratulations to Gunnison on their win. Last weekend it was fun to be a part of watching some great baseball. Every boy there played his heart out. I, too am tired of all the negative comments and the blame that goes around when a team doesn't win. The truth is, we are all trying to raise good boys, and they all take a part of this with them throughout their lives--win or lose. In the end, they are all winners if they leave the field as a gracious winner or if they lose with dignity and don't blame others or individuals for their loss. Richfield, I am proud of you. You showed class. Gunnison, thanks for great competition. That is what keeps us striving to be better. We'll see you next year for another season of great baseball.
r u kidding me | 11:39 a.m. May 12, 2008
no the gunnison kids were very deserving they brought there A game. I question some of the others. Maybe there should be a junior like Neal or A Soph like Frandsen. There are underclassmen who stood out and should be rewarded.
Thanks | 12:15 p.m. May 12, 2008
Coach Teeples thanks for your comments! Get home safely. We miss your intensity when we play Millard. Coach A. Hill

i think it is so dumb how people try to say "oh the only reason we lost is because of the umpires"
ok..the umpires can be very bad but still don't blame the whole thing on them... and plus gunnison is a good team they deserved it.

The SS fan can't be serious. Gunnison was the best team. Richfield was close. Everybody else was behind them a little ways.
Richfield Fan | 3:11 p.m. May 12, 2008
I agree with Richfield Mom about the class of the Richfield players. Hopefully, next year the boys will get a better example from their parents. What a classless group of adults! One can expect the standard yelling at the umpires and complaining about the coach from fans anywhere, but the Richfield parents have reached a new level of nastiness. The singling out and complaining about individual players (often loudly) is something to see.
If raising good kids is their goal, then I suggest next year they zip their lips. Whine in your own minds if you must, but keep it to yourselves. Remember, often as not "The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree".

Wow this actually happens? Those sort of 'fans' should be kicked out of the stadium.

I too was at the game I'm just not sure what game you are tslking about. What individual player are you refering too. Could it have been when the Gunnison player slid into home with his cleats belt high. That was the only negative thing I heard and I am not sure that it was not warranted. As for the classless and rude parents you are refering too, where were they all i saw was parents who were urging there kids to play harder. I especially do not recall anyone bashing the coach so I guess you are just like most of the other Richfield Fans who sit on there hands and do nothing. I for one am really tired of turning the other cheek. The kids had a bad day thats all that happened, if you look at the rest of the games it has been close. The Status Quo of mediocrity is over the people who support the teams want to win.
To Richfield Fan | 5:15 p.m. May 12, 2008
I agree that the parents need to be quiet and not put down other kids. However the parents also need to support the coaches rather they win or loose they are giving it everything they have (remember this is only their 2nd year coaching). How many coaches do you know that have only coached two years and have taken them to the state championship game two years in a row? You need to remember that this group of kids had not beat Gunnison since 8th grade or maybe even longer and that was with you as dads that know everything coaching. I would have to say that the coaches did the best that they could. They stuck with their "Ace" because they had faith in him and he is one of the best in the state things just did not work out as they had hoped. Good luck to both the Gunnison and Richfield boys in all that you do in life. You both deserved to take state however only one team can and in this case Gunnison prevailed.
SS player | 11:23 p.m. May 12, 2008
Whoever left the comment about the stupid umpire just made SS look dumb, Im a player from SS and we all know that the Umping in that game wasn't very good but you cant blame it on the umpiring, Gunnison is a tough team and they know how to win. You can't blame it on the umpiring, you still have to go out there and play the game.
Yee Haw | 12:16 a.m. May 13, 2008
I applaude your baseball wisdom in reference to the Umpire. His strike zone was not the difference in the game. Back to Richfield, Is the current staff going to remain intact for next season?
Richfield resident | 12:49 p.m. May 13, 2008
I should hope that the current staff remains intact for next season at RHS. Taking your team to the state championship game two times in two years of coaching is bad thing? I think that the richfield coaches have done an excellent job at instilling character in the players that they have coached and teaching them that there is more to life than high school sports. While it is great to win, there are times in life that you do lose and I think they have taught the boys how to win and lose with dignity. Good job coaches and RHS players.
SS dont be dumb | 8:20 a.m. May 14, 2008
ok first off i was at the south sevier vs. gunnison game and the umpiring wasnt bad. as a former player i understand that umps can miss maybe 2 or 3 calls a game but thats about it. and second you would never have beat gunnison ever if you would have brought your A game. they are just to good of a team they beat richfield twice who beat you guys 13-2. sorry to let you down SS but you really never had a chance.
To "Richfield Fan | 10:05 a.m. May 14, 2008
Who ever you are your assumpson is correct.. It is frightning because the Head Coach for Richfield is a Self Centered fellow and would not take any Good Advise from anyone with Baseball knowledge. He knows nothing about the game and neather does his assistant from the Failed Football program from witch he was realeased from. what he done to those same boys in the State Quarterfinals was unforgivable at the best. "The Inexperience and outright Self Centered Attitude of these two coaches showed at the State Game..
In My View | 10:36 a.m. May 14, 2008
As a Baseball Scout What I seen was not the best game that it should have been or was billed to be. The Richfield coaching was very bad. The Pitcher for Richfield seemed a little off but only after several critical errors made by the 3rd baseman I know from experience how that can happen to a Pitcher when he has a player that does not give 100% in a game that means so much. Then the Unsportsman like conduct of the Gunnison Player who tryed to "Spike" the Richfield Catcher {you ought ot appologize to him young man} I dont know if you were over zellous or what but that is not warrented as you had a big lead anyway. Hats off to the Gunnison Coach after the Richfild Pitcher was removed and placed at 3rd he went to the field to consol him. Class Act sir.
Richfield Parent | 12:32 p.m. May 14, 2008
To the person that says the Richfield Coaches are Self Centered, you don't know these guys or you would not be saying that, they are not self centered they care about the kids. For the comment about the football program, our football program has done better every year since Coach Giddings took over. It shows how much the kids like Coach Giddings with the amount of kids that say they are not playing next year because he is not going to be here. All the complaining is not going to change things, all you adults need to grow up and move on, support your coaches and kids, without the support you will never have a winning program.
Baseball Fan | 12:38 p.m. May 14, 2008
I am curious as to what the Richfield coach did in the quarter finals that was so terrible, please clue me in. I was at the game and did not believe that the slide at home where the gunnison player slid into the catcher was that bad. He hit him at the knee and not thigh high like someone else claimed, the catcher should't have been blocking home plate anyway it was a force play(just touch homebase). I didn't notice anyone from Gunnison react when Richfield took out their shortstop and knocked him off the base. Anyone one who knows these two teams know that neither play was malicious, the gunnison coach actually went and talked to the catcher after the play.
Baseball Fan | 12:50 p.m. May 14, 2008
What did the Richfield coches do in the quarter finals that was so unforgivable?
Cat dad | 1:09 p.m. May 14, 2008
It wasn't the Qfinals it was the Finals, Jackson slide home with his cleat belt high everyone saw it . The only problem was that the gutless ump did not toss him out it was done with intent to harm. As far as giddings goes it would not have mattered who coached last year they were going to win, the problem was they were 6-5 and lost in the qfinals. They had the team to go all the way, so good riddance and welcome back Coach Morrison
Winning Record??? | 1:23 p.m. May 14, 2008
The football team only beat ONE team over the past 3 seasons that had a winning record. That was SanjUan at that was a GREAT win. BUT, that win does not make a program. The combined record of the teams that Richfield has beat ove the past three years is 30-91. Over half of those wins are from teams that play 1A football. If you take out the 1A teams and San Juan the opponenst record of the "other 3" wins is 4-26. That program was not rebuilt.
Good Job Baseball coaches. It's sad that there are so many people who know so much more. Maybe they should have stayed in college so they could have your job and show us all how great they are.

There are comments in here about the umpire and the strike zone.
Maybe the ump was as concerned about the strike zone as some are about the "Zero Tolerance" policy!!!

the last time i was at a basball game which was last saturday "blue" were human. contrary to SS fans belief humans are allowed to make mistakes. if your to the point of making perfect calls every time i suggest you don a mask and hit the diamond. if not its time to keep quite. were talking HS ball here not some little league game. where most parents done even know how the game is played let alone the rules. as the old saying goes "baseball is a lot like church many attend but few understand". as was stated earier it no ones fault but yours when you cant hit the ball or make that catch. quite tring to blame other and accept the fact the you got beat by a much better team. GO DOGS!!!

I can't believe everyone is still complaining about the play at home. That was just a hustle play trying to make something happen and play all out not giving up!!
What really gets me and it has already been mentioned, but the last time I knew with loaded bases less than two outs and the infield in with a senior catcher at the plate I would have thought he would have played it like a first baseman get the out and then fire to first for a double play. Come on everyone learn the game and then theres no confusion on what just happened!!! Especially the so called scout who you trying to kid some scout you are!!!

I was raised in Richfield and played sports there during my high school years. After moving away I now see what a weird place it is to live. I myself am a high school coach and you couldn't pay me enough money to move back to Richfield and coach there. I have a great friendship with Coach Giddings and would welcome him to my staff any day of the week, he is a great coach and knows what he is doing. The parents and community of Richfield needs to grow up and stop acting like babies. A program will never be a winning program with parents that are always on the coaches backs and always causing a fuss. Good Luck to Coach Giddings you will do great where ever you go you know the sport of football don't listen to these people on here they don't have a clue.
Hey Richfield | 3:19 p.m. May 14, 2008
Be happy you were a runner up. When you get to the 3-A ranks, where you should have been for awhile now anyway, you can forget about being a runner up in anything. Sanpete, Delta and Emery have been there for a long time and can only hope to get to a title game. They have had some really good teams over the years in different sports and are happy to get a little post season action. So thank your coaches for a chance to play for the title and cherish the memory because it will soon come to an end in 3-A. Sanpete, Delta and Emery already know how to compete at that level, and seldom get to a title game, it will take you and Juab and Manti a while to get there so have some patience. Your teams and coaches, good or bad, will have a hard time competing with the big boys for a few years.
2 cents worth | 4:37 p.m. May 14, 2008
if you think Jackson should have been tossed out of the game for the slide at home. the richfield picher should have followed him after hitting 3 batters in a row. the game is over and you got your butts kicked. forget about it and move on. at least when you get to 3a where you belong you wont have to play gunnison any more. GO DOGS

Slide was clean....
hey yee haw | 10:59 a.m. May 16, 2008
you must have been the only one in the Ball Park that seen it and said it was clean. You better go to an Eye doctor cause your blind or a GVHS Fan the Young Man needs to appoligise to the RHS Catcher for his deed and you need to be nice....
To Yee Haw | 1:24 p.m. May 16, 2008
I also must attest to the fact that the Slide was a horrible thing to see with Jacksons Cleats waist high I for one am thankfull that the Richfield Catcher did not get hurt and as has been said Jackson ought to Appoligize to the Richfield Catcher.
Anonymous | 2:34 p.m. May 16, 2008
Hmm, i wasnt at the game, but from reading the comments, nobody was to blame. Dirty slide? Who cares? Why the plate block? For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction. It sounds like the best other option would be to plow through him. Which is worse? I bet that would make the Richfield fans happy.
hey Anonymous | 4:56 p.m. May 16, 2008
Any one with common decency would care!!! Have Jackson appoligize and it will be done with. Afterall if you wasent present you need not comment!!!
Gametime | 2:22 a.m. May 17, 2008
Catcher shouldn't be laying on the plate. It was a force play. He should be looking to turn two. And please tell me how cleats are belt high? Was it a ninja kick slide?
Jackson is slow and smart. Not a ninja. Also the classiest young man you will ever meet. Academic All-State and All-State on the field. He is also a bad slider, he broke him arm last summer sliding. Not the malicious slider you are looking for. Try again.

I think that the parents involvement in a game that was over last saturday needs to stop. I am of course talking about the state champianchip game Gunnison vs. Richfield. People, Get over it. The game is OVER!!!!! The best team won. Congrats Gunnison AND Richfield. You both deserve the spot light. There is alot of talent on both teams. Great job players.

Thanks | 6:03 p.m. May 18, 2008
We had the chance to coach three of Richfield's finest (Hartle, Johnson, and Tuttle) at the 2A All-Star game on Saturday in Gunnison. As a coach it was a pleasure to have them in the same dugout. They are all fine, classy, young men. I know we have battled over the years, but this was a great opportunity to play together one last time. So thanks to RHS for some fine young men. You should be proud of them Thanks - Coach A. Hill

The north all star team was over stocked with the best talent in the sate.
YEE HAW | 1:18 p.m. May 19, 2008
Its true the North was stacked. That is factual proof that the two best teams in 2A were GV and RHS. Region 12 has been the dominate region for several years now. It was a great game regardless. Congrats to all the kids and coaches that were selected.
It was great to see the combined talent of GV and RHS.

GVHS Has the best coaching staff around totaly Classy.. You did not see any of the RHS coaches at the game or the dinner.
Thank You | 3:29 p.m. May 19, 2008
Thank You goes out to you GVHS Coaches and those Responsible for the Great 2-A All Star dinner And Game you are all Awsome and Gunnison can be Very Proud of you. Thanks Coach A.Hill for your great comment it ment alot to me as one of the Fathers of the Young men form RHS that you coached..
To South Central | 9:08 p.m. May 19, 2008
Who ever you are you need to have garatitude. All of the boys and coaches were picked by 17 of 22 2-A Schools I feel that is exceptional and they all deserve to be All Stars nomater if they played on the North Or the South team. Those at Gunnison need a pat on their back for doing such a great job with this All Star Dinner and Game not Critisim for whre the boys played. Be THANKFULL for such Great Talent that the boys and coaches had and the commrodery among them was Awsome. Great Job GVHS!!!!
to south central | 11:16 a.m. May 20, 2008
Thank the boys for the all-star's not the coach's. The coach's teams just won from the players and that is how they where voted.
by-standard | 8:03 p.m. May 22, 2008
Well I have sat back and watched alot of sports in the last few years, and it don't matter who you have coach for Richfield they will never be good enough for the parents, RHS will never go anywhere or do anything, they have the boys to do it but they don't get the positive support from home that they need, all they hear is negative encouragement. Myabre if the RHS parents and fans would just stay home for a season or 2 they might win something other than a SILVER!!!!!!!
To By- Standard | 8:26 p.m. May 22, 2008
You know better than what you just said you Must be a So. Sevier Fan because A Gunnison Fan would have more Class than that. "WHERES YOUR SILVER????
