There were other votes today at the convention, what about those? Like the State Treasurer???

I heard from a Delegate friend that Cannon is on the verge of being completely eliminated pending a 3rd round vote.

Third round voting complete, votes being counted. Chaffetz is in, Cannon second. Leavitt threw support to Cannon to stop Chaffetz from winning outright. But Chaffetz may win outright nonetheless. This is being live-blogged by the Provo Daily Herald, link posted on the top of their main page.

Full disclosure, I was a delegate supporting Chaffetz. Apparently Chaffetz came up about 6 votes shy of winning 60% outright (out of ~1,000). The Leavitt campaign resorted to some poor sportsmanship on the convention floor, bringing in Cannon signs after losing (which is prohibited). During the final vote of Chaffetz vs. Rep. Cannon, Mr. Cannon threw a major fit, swearing and all, upset that the Chaffetz people were trying to sway the Leavitt voters in the hallway (how dare they think for themselves once their candidate was out!). In all I thought Leavitt and Cannon showed some very poor taste in the end. All of the candidates are viable Congressmen, but this primary will be very interesting. Well see if Chri$$$ Cannon finally gets voted out in a few months.

As for other votes, Treasurer goes to a primary since neither candidate got 60%. Dew took Cook out in the 2nd district. The best speech of the day was given by Cristy Henshaw (running for committee chairwoman), to resounding applause...but it wasn't enough to take out the incumbent.

The delegates are figuring out how Cannon works. Gregg Hawkins in a three way race with Cannon and Throckmorton. BECAUSE of the split, Cannon won.

Then,

John Jacob ran in a three way race with Cannon and Cook. BECAUSE of the split, Cannon won again.

Then,

David Leavitt run in a three way race with Cannon and Chaffetz. In this race, it didn't work! Chaffetz missed taking out Cannon by 6 votes. Leavitt actually violated the rules of the convention by campaigning on the floor of the convention for Cannon! Now, we are in another primary.

Does anyone see a pattern here?

Maybe, just maybe, the delegates, who obviously have figured out what Cannon and his stalking horse candidates are doing to split the opposition vote, can get the message to the public about the game that Cannon continues to play to stay in office.

It is definitely time we threw this manipulative liar out of office!

Sorry WatchDog, you aren't too smart. The Republican convention delegates vote by multiple ballot, meaning on each ballot one candidate drops out, so there is no way to 'split the vote'.

Not only did Leavitt supporters in their orange Leavitt T-Shirts come onto and parade around the Convention Floor and ignore the instruction of Stan Lockhart that they were violating the rules of the Convention and they should please leave they brought in more and hung a large sign behind the podium saying Leavitt Supports Cannon.

Additionally Cannon and Leavitt themselves walking hand in hand began campaigning on the floor until the booing of delegates shamed them into stopping.

Blatant disregard for the rules revealed Cannon's true nature. He lacks integretity and respect and should have been elimiated. If only six more delegates had the sense to vote for Chaffetz it would be done. Now we have to listen to Cannon inflate his record, talking in generalities about how wonderful he has been for Utah as he decieves those in the Third District to give him another term.

Generally the delegates aren't the best representation of the voters as a whole.

That Cannon sure is "precocious," to quote one of the more stupid things he's said in recent months...

I love Chris Cannon. He's like David Archuleta. So cute!

Sen. Christensen said, "I do not condone illegal immigration." You would never accept this statement if you had attended or paid attention to the debate on SB-81. He is in favor of the status quo due to the make up of part of his district in North Ogden.

The delegates are figuring out how Cannon works and that he knows how to rig an election.
