Could it possibly be that the wrong type of person is selected to enter medical school? "Best and brightest" should exclude such vulnerabilities described in this article. Having gone through medical school, I discovered that there are many other types of individuals who would make far better physicians than the "best and brightest" as selected by the current system. There are truly other versions of "best and brightest" but arrogance can't discuss, let alone allow, that.

I'm an early retired RN, and I can certainly empathize with the things you have said. It's such a relief to no longer feel the stress of life and death decisions and constantly charting every action you take to prevent possible law suits.

Health care is an incredibly stressful area in today's society with such high demands and expectations (not to mention the blood and guts). So I applaud your efforts to call attention to possible problems and to offer any solutions that you think might help.

Sometimes we actually need new answers and other times we just need to vent. I truly wish for you success in all you are trying to do, as well as the serenity to accept those things that can't be changed.

Raising awareness and making positive changes are lofty goals. Please remember to also gently care for yourself and your own unique needs.

Life is often hard, so is medicine. Good luck!
