My guess is that he quit because he was tired of trying to develop a balanced budget under the crushing weight of public safety. Police, Fire, and Dispatch services are sucking the life, and funding, from local governments. The state legislature has made it nearly impossible for local governments to generate adequate funding to provide the basic services that residents desire.

Obviously your reality is different than real life. Sure public safety requires a lot of money, but so does the Arts Center, iProvo, Parks and Rec, Sanitation and all of the rest of the services that you take for granted. As you are probably aware Provo has not raised its electric rates for 24 years, of course everything else, from gas to shovels has increased 10 fold in the same time period. Dave Croft is a very smart man, Provo will miss his expertise. As for reality check, I guess if you are having a heart attack or a burglar is coming through your window, you could always call the mayor.

Like all the employees he probably couldn't keep up with his regular job duties because of all the games he was asked to play in cooking the books with iProvo and the City's general fund budget. Then when he couldn't keep up with his regular duties because of all the Billings' games he was asked to play they "ask him to resign." All the employees and their budgets are stretched. Only because of all the unbudgeted, unfunded projects this mayor puts through that have no relation to any "basic needs or services" that should be focused on by the employees. Dave Croff is an example of a city employee structure that is worn out by all of this administrations demands for projects that are not budgeted for and there is not enough man power to complete and these are all just add-ons to their "normal duties and responsibilities." The employees can't focus on the basic services because of the outrageous demands of this administration. It is time for a change before the city's budget and personnel are completely destroyed by this mayor and thus the actual services needed by the great citizens of Provo.
