"If they have one", says it all. How about that pass defense on 4th and 18. That was about the only highlight they had all year. Oh yea, I forgot that was a Cougar highlight.

The Cougars' Bryan Kehl was drafted in the fourth round by the Super Bowl champion new York Giants. he was the 123rd person drafted.

I repeat-None of these free agents will be a contibutor to the teams that took them. Get on with your lives young men and apply your degree towards something that will benefit you and your future and families. Free agents are a dime a dozen. Less than 3% ever make it. Reality is what matters not fantasy.

Although you are correct that the likelyhood of a free agent makes a huge impact on a team, it is better to be a free agent than be drafted in the 6th or 7th round. That way, you are available to have looks by several different teams, vs the 1 and done.

If your drafted no matter what round and cut you are a FREE AGENT dummy and can be picked up by anyone, but being selected in the draft is superior to being a FREE AGENT.

The problem with your take is that the late round draftees frequently get cut at a time most other teams have filled their needs and there are fewer options for those players.
Often times it is better for players to go undrafted than to be taken in lat rounds.

So what if they don't make huge impacts? The decision for these players is easy - they'll make a lot more money in the league than they would "applying their degrees". Even if they just play for a couple of years at league minimum they'd be much better off. Maybe they can stay around long enough to get the pension (I think it is a few weeks into 4th year).
Also, having played in the NFL will make these guys much more marketable in the workforce, regardless of their level of contribution to their teams.
It is a no brainer - if you get the opportunity, take it.

Hard core BYU fan here, wanted to give congrats to these players from Utah getting a spot to compete in the NFL (just make the team now boys). I want to see all these guys perform well, makes the conference look better as a whole.

FYI Dixie Dan....The honor code only applies to BYU students/faculty. They are no longer students so they can do what they want. Same goes for LDS missionaries...they keep a higher standard for 2 years but the bar changes when they return. Take a look at other religious leaders, military leaders, etc...and their bar differs as well. Lastly, how come LDS members are sheep for following their prophet one minute but are accused of lowering their standards the next if they don't. Which is it?

Playing on Sunday is a personal decision. There are a lot of careers that require Sunday work, so should someone refuse to be in a medical, legal, or firefighting field? While football and necessary services are two different priorities to most of us, to an athlete with the necessary skills the thought of playing on Sunday might be mitigated by setting aside another day during the week, during the season, to develop their spiritual side. I have a few friends who have been professional athletes they survived just fine.

To boise State: what does "all y'all" mean? Is that a reference to the fine education you are getting in Les Bois? Also, I believe that your #12 overall pick is the first of its kind. When was your last top 10, or #1? Give me a break, if you were that great your school president wouldn't be begging the MWC to take you in.
To None: These guys have an opportunity to make a living doing what they want. Even if they don't stick with the team they sign with, they get exposure for scout teams, CFL teams, Arena football teams, so why don't you just pursue your "reality" and let these guys make their own decisions.

OK, this has been bothering me since the Utes went to the Fiesta Bowl! Since most of you are Ute fans, what happened to Morgan Scalley? Remember him, the Ute saftey that won the first Pat Tillman award in the East West game? He wasn't drafted, no free agent signing, and no draft or combine coverage at all. Its like he droped off the face of the Football world!!! I've tried for years to find out. Does anyone out there have a clue? He should have been 1st, and no later that early 2nd round draft pick. Heck, I think he was every bit as good as Weddle, perhaps better.

victor filipe signed with the cincinati bengals. i saw that he was contacted by 12 teams after the draft and chose cincinati. i read somewhere online that they commited to drafting him in the 5th round then backed out the last second to take jason shirley from fresno state. 2 other teams committed to drafting him and backed out because of the division 2 competion he went against. they liked what they saw on film and on paper but wasnt sure enough that he could make the transition. what matters is that he gets his shot. good luck victor im a huge fan

Scalley was a great college football player and nothing else. He was too slow and unathletic to play in the NFL. He was invited as a free agent to the Philadelphia Eagles camp, but was cut. Fortunately, Scalley comes from a great family who values education and hard work and he had other options. He chose to get his Master's Degree at the U and remain a part of the football program as a Graduate Assistant. He was just promoted to the Safety coach this past spring.

He said that Baseball was the best way he could provide for his family and that he attended church as often and wherever he could on Sunday. His decision was between him and the Lord. I worked in broadcasting running the master control board for TV stations and had to sit many a Sunday watching & listening to Jimmy Swaggart and others of his ilk rather than to the visiting H.C. and other speakers at my ward Sacrament Meeting. I don't think any of us who have work on Sunday because our jobs require it are going to burn in hell as long as we keep our covenants, etc.
Be careful about how you judge others...

Just want to note that Utah Atheletics dept. needs to put some efforts and sell their players more, starting with the improvement in each player's profile and add some of their highlights, if hey have one. They have not yet even updated them with 2007 season results.
