I'm sure glad the fat-boys of Davis County can consider themselves "the finest" law enforcement has to offer. That physical standard is pretty minimal. If I were a criminal looking for a place to commit crimes where a cop might have to chase me on foot, I'd be overjoyed to know that I only have to sprint past a donut shop in Davis to escape, while the cop's Pavlovian reflex kicks in and he stops for a breather and a bearclaw. Come on, tubby, make the minimum effort to be physically able to do your SWORN duty!

Great. Just what we need, fatter cops.
Waste of Tax payer money | 9:13 a.m. April 27, 2008
The fitness tesing is a waste of tax payer money. The article states that those who pass the test are eligable for additional time off. The testing is worthless in overall effect and I would rather see more officers on the street fighting crime. Most citizens don't get paid for going to the gym. How about a test for common sense instead. Lack of common sense lead to more problems and lawsuits that fitness in law enforcement.

I'm sure glad that those sworn to protect me don't have to meet any physical standards. I mean it's not like those silly criminals that they are supposed to be able to apprehend are going to resist or anything. And god forbid there should be a foot chase. Oh yeah, and that 270 days to get into shape to pass, I mean come on!!! 9 months is nowhere near enough time to get in shape. Oh yeah, in the Marines, we have to run 3 miles in under 24 minutes, do 20 pull ups (no time limit), and 100 sit-ups in 2 minutes. I realize we're Marines, but my little sister could pass the Davis County Sheriff's test. Bad call Davis, the public deserves to have people securing their safety who can deliver when called upon.

It is obvious that we are geting the police protection we pay for. Protect me from criminals, but don't make me pay for it.
We want bright, motivated, physically fit, and metally balanced individuals working in our law enforcement agencies. We don't want people who will abuse their postions.
Check out what the entry level pay is, very few qualified individuals will apply.

Great, now the cops can eat more donuts.

Contrary to popular belief, all cops don't eat donuts! In the past typically donut shops were some of the only establishments open 24 hours a day which provides them a place to go have a break and get a cup of coffee. Kind of like most of your break rooms that have vending machines, you know the places that you people go to have a break from your work day.
Be happy that someone is around to protect you and at least your police department is attempting to give an incentive to be fit.

I am a CJ major at Weber State Univ. And there is one clear message that I have learned: don't stay in utah for a law enforcement job! It is really sad when the school holds a job fair and the worst offers are all from Utah. Especially with the state! If the residents want real protection/services from highly qualified officers, they have to be willing to pay for it!
