The property tax is hated more than the other taxes because it isn't hidden for those that don't have a mortgage. If taxpayers had to write a check at the beginning of the year for their state income tax, it would be even more hated than the property tax because generally those with mortgages have the property tax held by the lender. So unless it goes up a lot and they are behind they don't notice it as much.

The property tax is also hated because homeowners never actually own their own home. With a property tax, it is just being rented from the government.

It was stated: "An equal mix seems the best course, along with constant reminders to city leaders about what does and doesn't work to attract jobs."
What a meaningless conclusion. The best course would be to reduce a city's dependence on the sales tax.
