Trent please don't go! You have the chance to accomplish something really special at BYU next year, a three-peat. All the tools are in place for a magical year. The money will be there in greater amounts next year, after your amazing performance in the final four. Just imagine your jersey in the Marriot center rafters and a final four banner hanging up there, money can't buy that, just ask Shawn Bradley. Please stay!!

Whether it be this year or next year, good luck in Turkey!

Plaisted should be a lottery pick since Y players are always athletic since the Y only recruits McDonalds All Americans
You're not that good | 6:04 a.m. April 11, 2008
Not a smart move. Plaisted will end up playing in the D league, without a degree.

Don't worry Trent isn't going anywhere except to stadium of fire. he isn't good enough to play in the NBA. He won't be good enough next year either. An NBA team would be stupid to draft him.
Huh? | 7:13 a.m. April 11, 2008
Wow...not a good move.
Awesome Decision | 7:17 a.m. April 11, 2008
Hey, look at how well all the other most recent BYU basketball players are doing in the NBA, this is a great move. Good Luck and practice on your Italian (etc...) because it is off to Europe no matter when you go, whether it is this year or next. You stand no chance of making it in the NBA, but Europe like all your other BYU buddies, that is the place for you:) Seriously, though make the best decision for you and your family, everything else will take care of itself and there is nothing wrong with European Basketball, it is just a skip across the ocean.
Mike | 7:29 a.m. April 11, 2008
Trent has the same chance at the NBA as I have and I'm 60.
Anonymous | 7:45 a.m. April 11, 2008
Trent should stay another year and learn how to shoot free-throws and prevent the other team from getting offensive rebounds and stay out of foul trouble.
Scoobie | 7:50 a.m. April 11, 2008
Big Mistake....should use the remaining eligibility to build on. Another year would make a lot of difference in the value of his rating stock...sad to see him go....but good luck.......he's got a hard road ahead.
Anonymous | 7:52 a.m. April 11, 2008
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. let him do it! it'll give us all a good laugh!
UNLV FAN | 8:00 a.m. April 11, 2008
Plaisted in the NBA. What a joke. He can't even score in double figures against Joe Darger. What's Joe, 6'6". Yea Trent should be a real force in the NBA (rolling eyes) I guess if the guy wants to realize how bad he really is, then this is a good move. You have better players on the bench at BYU than Trent. He has no game other than one move that everyone in the building knows he is going to every time. Easiest guard in the MWC.
BigD | 8:11 a.m. April 11, 2008
This is so funny, mainly because the media is making a story out of it. Plaisted has no chance of ever playing in the NBA.I don't think Europe is even an option-I think they shoot free throws over there as well
Tom, Tom, Tom | 8:11 a.m. April 11, 2008
I'm sorry Trent, but I'm afraid that even I have to agree with the Uteys that have posted their two cents worth......You'll lose much more that you will gain.....You're looking at this as the easy way to go when waiting another year is the the right way for you.
To all pessimists | 8:12 a.m. April 11, 2008
Just because your teams don't have anyone good enough, even play in Europe, doesn't mean you have to rag on somebody that has a chance.
good move | 8:21 a.m. April 11, 2008
It's a good idea to test the waters. He's not making any committments. I remember a lot of people criticizing Shavlik Randolph at Duke a few years ago when he entered the draft, but he was drafted and has played in the NBA for a few years. He makes a ton of money and has a good life. Since Trent is graduating, what reason does he have to stay? Winning a MWC title again? Yawn.
Cosmo | 8:26 a.m. April 11, 2008
A name comes to mind. Does anybody remember John Walsh? The NFL sure doesn't!
Bad Move? | 8:27 a.m. April 11, 2008
Other than waisting a little money on travel, this is a smart move for Trent. He is just testing the waters. Now if he hires an agent that would be a bad move. I think he will be at the Y next year, or maybe the D-League getting muscled around by better players.
BYUFan | 8:27 a.m. April 11, 2008
Sadly, I agree with UNLV fan.

Be like Mike. Loved his comment.
I don't think he's ready and am not sure he'll ever play in the NBA.

Final Four banner? Never. Never in your lifetime, never in the lifetime of your children, never in the lifetime of your grandchildren, never in the lifetime of your great-great grandchildren, never in the lifetime of your great-great-great grandchildren, never in the lifetime of your great-great-great-great grandchildrne, never in the lifetime of your great-great-great-great-great grandchildren, never in the lifetime in your great-great-great-great-great grandchildren, never in the lifetime of your great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren.
Then again, you do have lacrosse.
The only way that there would be a Final Four banner hanging at the Marriot Center is if the Huntsman Center burned to the ground and the Utes shared the Marriot Center Floor, at that point there would be 3.
Look up the history on your current NCAA banners. The years of the "Sweet Sixteen" are ironically the years that there were sixteen teams invited to the tournament. The only legit banner was Ainge's banner, but for historical purposes, look to see how many teams were invited that year.
But you do have men's volleyball.

OK, so maybe Trent isn't the most talented player ever to enter the NBA draft. He doesn't have an agent, which means he can still return to BYU next year and in my opinion that's what he'll do. He'll go to NBA combines and people will notice him. He'll set himself up for a better chance to go pro next year by being visible now. That's the way I see this.
Dr. Science | 8:41 a.m. April 11, 2008
Can't shoot free throws + No jump shot + No hops = Playing for the Utah Flash

TO good move
Trent is not graduating this year. He will be 2 hours short of a it. It almost sounds like Coach Rose doesn't really think he is going and he has his doubts about his ability. They are going to prepare as if he were coming back next year? I still think that this is all a publicity stunt. Enter the draft early and get evaluated by scouts and work out and then drop out of the draft knowing what you have to inprove on for next year and work at that then have a better chance in the draft next year. All just a show. He will be back and next year. He is just puttin on a show.

Smart move by Trent...by declaring he gets exposure. He works out for teams and fines out where is stock is in the upcoming draft.
I think it is funny to read all these comments. Everyone has an agenda.
Cougar fans ought to be hoping he works out for most NBA teams and learns what he needs to work on to get better. If he gets better, so does BYU.
For everyone else, imagine he was your brother or son. You would advise him to do exactly what he is doing.
Trent is going to make some serious money playing professional basketball. I agree he is not NBA material now, but there are a bunch of players in Europe making $500 K a year and living in some of the most beautiful places in the world.
Trent has the ability to have a great career.

??????? | 8:55 a.m. April 11, 2008
The NBA teams will exploit every weakness in a player. If he ever sees playing time, there is a basket full of weaknesses in Trent's game. The big question has to be "Is this he going to get any better if he plays another year at BYU?" I did not see much improvement this past year. He still has only one move and he can't shoot free throws. He will get drafted just because he is 6'11". As the saying goes, "You can't teach height." There are worse fates in life than making millions of dollars while sitting on an NBA bench.
Ernest T. Bass | 8:56 a.m. April 11, 2008
He's left handed.
Son of Helaman | 8:59 a.m. April 11, 2008
Trent is just testing the waters. He's trying to make himself visible for next years draft hopes. He'll be back at BYU. Then again I never thought Greg Kite would draw much interest from the NBA.
fans are dumb | 9:04 a.m. April 11, 2008
There is nothing wrong with somebody wanting to try their luck in the NBA. I don't see Plaisted making it in the NBA, but I don't see him getting any better next year at BYU (it hasn't helped yet). Go try it out, you can always go back to school. I didn't need B-ball to put me through school.
Besides whose to blame him for wanting to get out of Provo.
Go Utes!

I think this is a good move for Trent.
And, Trent, if you are reading this now, and these other posts, shame on you. You are never going to get the confidence you need to be as successful as you want to be by listening to this stuff.
And if your family members are reading it and talking to you about it, they are part of the problem 2.

I think that its a smart move for him to put his name out there, go to camp, and get on the radar of NBA scouts and then come back to BYU. I think that's whats going to happen. I don't exactly know for sure, since I'm not him and only he can make that decision, but if I were in his place, I would proabably make the same decision, get a free trip to an NBA camp and practice with the best, then come back to BYU and have even more scouts watching out for your senior year.
I just hope that he doesn't listen to a greedy agent and actually decide to make the jump to the NBA. The way that he's posturing himself seems that probably wont happen and he'll come back.

yeah they will notice him and wonder what the heck is he doing here. right on about john walsh II
Nate | 9:27 a.m. April 11, 2008
Anyone saying that he has no chance to play in the NBA doesn't know much about basketball. The NBA puts a premium on athletic big men, which Trent is. Will he be a lottery pick? No. But listening to NBA GMs, scouts, and coaches tell him where they think he would be picked (probably mid-second round right now), and how to improve his game to be better prepared for the NBA, is a bad thing?
Good Move | 9:35 a.m. April 11, 2008
I think this is a very smart move by Plaisted, and I fully expect to see him in a BYU uniform next year. All MWC athletes suffer from a severe lack of media coverage. While I think Plaisted is far from ready for the NBA, this will at least put him on the radar (if he performs well at these camps) and scouts will then pay more attention to him during his senior season. He will also get lots of feedback on areas where he can improve and work on in the off season. So, until he signs with an agent and eliminates the chance to come back to school, this is a great move. I don't think he has any intention to go pro this year, but I do think this is a smart move to get noticed and maximize whatever chances he has to play professional basketball in the future.
to Dr. Science | 9:39 a.m. April 11, 2008
No hops? He can touch 12 feet 2 inches and has a running vertical of 41 inches - that is the definition of 'hops', especially for someone 6' 11".
re:to optimistic cougar | 9:53 a.m. April 11, 2008
Sounds like you are comparing Ute football to BYU basketball. Now that Urban is gone, Utahs hopes of ever being in a national championship game is a fantasy hope at best. Even with a turn-coat Cougar as a coach(may his name be stricken from the records). It will never ever happen.
Sad to say... | 10:01 a.m. April 11, 2008
But I agree with the Yewt fans on here. Not NBA material yet (if ever). He should give it another year for sure. No way he gets drafted in the first round this year. His overall game isn't developed enough yet for the NBA.
I'd love to see him stay, help the program, and get better. Maybe next year they can actually win a game in the tournament.

Lets do some simple math plaisted showed up and played 5 or 6 stellar double double dominating games out of 30. Hummmm sounds good enough for the NBA. I loved plaisted tell the end of the season. Let him go we all know who the NEW LEADER of the cougs is Lee Cummard. Lee proved he is the number one option now. Go plaisted try the NBA but you will get a D and thats the only place you will play. Or head to Brazil with Hafa Arujo.
Ute critics: Bogut won't last 5 more years, and he was a #1 pick. Andre Miller is the Real Deal

Ask John Walsh what to do. It worked out good for him.

Plaisted is making the wrong choice... he proved in the tourney that he's not there yet. He's not going to be a top prospect on anyone's list. Work it out another year and show you can lead in a victory in the NCAA Tourney... I'm a huge BYU fan, but I think he's getting bad advice, his stock can only rise with another year like this year's, but finishing strong and not wilting in the tourney.
Best Chance | 10:22 a.m. April 11, 2008
Plaisted has the best chance at making the NBA than anyone else in the state.
Trent = NBA | 10:28 a.m. April 11, 2008
Trent will be drafted to the NBA and will even be drafted ahead of USU's Jaycee Carroll.
Also | 10:38 a.m. April 11, 2008
Trent is a very smart guy - reportedly got 35 on his ACT - so I'm pretty sure he's smart enough to not go if it isn't in his best interest. If it is, best of luck to him. If it isn't, we welcome him back for another year!
Non-believer | 10:58 a.m. April 11, 2008
Trent has been reading his own press clippings. Just look at the caliber of players in the final four. Trent would not even have been sitting on the bench. He is big frog in a iittle pond. He would not get through the door in the NBA. Poor advice from someone. We will wait and see if four years from now he is a star with the NBA. Don't think so.
Y could not witn the conference tournament with him. Don't you think NBA will notice that. Don't think the Y needs him. They have other players who can step up.

Bad decision | 10:59 a.m. April 11, 2008
Here are the reasons:
1. Poor free throw shooter. Some serious work here
2. Lack of coordination- the sloppiness will not go at the next level
3. Athleticism- lets be honest the MWC is not know for it. Getting posterized at the next level would be embarrassing
4. Consistent play- one has to dominant night in and night out in the MWC to play in the NBA. He has not been that kind of player
He should come back and develop his game.

First of all, Trent is not now NBA material, and may never be. I have to agree with everyone who said this.
That said, think about this, all you who blast him: imagine someone who works in your industry told you to apply for a job in which you would earn you 2-3 million dollars over the course of, say, three to five years. You might get the job or you might not, but this person thinks you have a good shot at it, as do other people. If you don't get the job, you've lost nothing. If you do get the job, you earn your millions, finish school over a couple of summers, and five years later you do something else for a living. Would you do it? Of course you would! So why is everyone insulting him for trying?

Alright... I can't wait to see him not get drafted! It's gonna be awesome! OVERRATED!!!!!!!!
Guarantee if he does get drafted, he'll stay in the league even shorter the Araujo did! He is worse the Araujo, and Araujo didn't even play much! Give it one year and Plaisted will be either in the D-League or in Europe

huge cougar fan, i do what i can to make the utes mad, support my cougars through and through, even to the point of being ridiculously optimistic. However, in the few games I have been able to watch this year, Trent has proven that he is a decent college player, but that is about it. He can't guard the big guy, forget about a shot from further out than 8 feet, and we won't even talk about rebounding. All of the athletic big men in the NBA (Nowitzki, Okur) can do those things. I am appreciative of Plaisted's time at BYU, but I have never seen those other qualities.
