What is Mendenhall still coaching. The running play at the end of the 1/2 instead of the qb taking a knee almost loosing the bowl game. Everyone knows that BYU got outplayed by a team that should have never gone to a bowl, and the kicker gave BYU the win. That running play at any other University would have had the coach fired at the end of the season. I would have fired teh coach at half time. BYU wonders why they have a second rate team, look at the coaching. They barely beat a team w/no focus and very little talent. Mendenhall will lose at least two games himself this year. He is the worst coach I have ever seen. Most of all he goes and says that he would run that play again. How scary is that?! BYU's future is High School talented coaching. What a joke. His coaching has been made into a joke outside of Utah, and believe me he gets no respect because he has no props and would never be asked to coach at any other University. UGLY!

Jeff's comments only had one credible point; the run play at the end of the 1st half in the Vegas Bowl was stupid. Coaches don't get fired for one bad play and certainly not one that was during a win. It will serve notice for better decision-making by the offensive coordinator in the future.

Bronco's work at BYU has been applauded around the country. He is spoken of highly by those who really know football and the difficulty in rebuilding a program, especially one as perculiar as BYU. His name floats every time there is a coaching vacancy at a major university in the west.

22-4 in the last two seasons
2 straight bowl victories
2 straight undefeated campaigns in MWC
2 straight top 20 rankings
Identified as potential BCS Busters
etc., etc., etc.

Jeff is delusional to think that the above facts are "ugly." From someone outside the state of Utah, Bronco has restored a great program; one that my peers and colleagues respect.

Sorry to see that you are wasting your time reading and writing this on this board. Why don't you just go home and stay away from this Cougars Country. I don't care who you are and where you come from.

Go read Harmon's article and then go climb back under your rock. Bronco has won the acclaim of those that matter!

Jeff, you're a troll, making outrageous comments just to try to get a response. Anyone with an IQ of 10 recognizes that Bronco is one of the finest coaches in the land in any sport, at any level, just look at his results, on and off the field. Go get your entertainment elsewhere.

Bwahaha - Jeff... You're delusional - You just keep letting that despondent Bronco hating bias shine through, it's almost as humorous as it is ignorant. One play cannot discount years worth of great coaching.
Mendenhall also effectively didn't throw his O-coordinator under the bus after that play - something many lesser men may have done... BYU "wonders why they have a second rate team?" What?!
I'll just contribute your sweeping generalizations to asbestos, lead poisoning or the abnormally soft spot on the top of your head.

Wow ... a little up tight are we? Let it go, stop dwelling on past mistakes. Let's look forward to this year and see if lessons were learned.

Start holding your breath.

that's why espn says his next step would be coaching UW - in the pac 10!

Watch conference and repent!

Before you write something, try to have a supportable message. Thanks.

JJ's comments are a fine piece of comedy. I've read several articles by national sports writers wherein Mendenhall is touted as THE BEST coach in the conference, and a rising star on the national scene. One national sports writer went as far as to say he is already one of the best coaches in college football.

Lets keep the players healthy and playing on the field and out of jail.

"We did not use enough running game against UCLA in the first game"(never mind the poor blocking)

"We were not prepared for Tulsa" Loss number 2)

"We went into the prevent defense to early and allowed them to score"(UNM) WHY?

Running play on the goal line with seven sconds on the clock?

Dallas made an All American out of Davis in both games...Raise the bar?

Game time ADJUSTMENTS do not exist...crash the plane, the inspect the landing gear...

BYU..the masters of the 4 yd passing attack!!!
Legal Beagle | 5:21 a.m. April 7, 2008
Hey "right on JJ," I think it ironic that you criticize a team for being "masters of the 4 yd passing attack." Do the math. If a team averages 4 yds per pass, doesn't that mean that on every third play they achieve a first down? Isn't that a recipe for consistent success, stringing together series of unstoppable short yardage plays and piling up first downs marching down the field? It sure worked for BYU under Lavell for 28 years against nearly every top football program in the country. I think a lot of teams would gladly accept being masters of the 4 yd passing attack. If BYU's offense was and is so pathetic, why did so many college teams move quickly to incorporate versions of it in their own programs when they saw the success BYU was having with it? Anae is really running a 1984 BYU Lite offense, and surprise, it is working now just like it did then.
As for the Tulsa loss, yes we were unprepared for That one and lost. There were a few ugly games in the Lavell era we were unprepared for and lost (UTEP 1985?). Did we fire him?
Great Coaching | 8:57 a.m. April 7, 2008
I guess some people have never, ever made a mistake while performing their job. And if they ever did make the slightest of mistakes, they would expect to be fired right then and there.

I would offer sincere regrets to all the Bronco haters out there when informing them that he has the coldest seat in the country when it comes to job security, but that would mean I would need to be sincere.

Is he a young coach figuring it out during his first ever head coaching gig? Yes. Has he already surpassed many other "established" head coaches in coaching ability? Yes.

Did the UCLA defense play the most determined game of its life in order to try and win the coaching job for Dewayne Walker? Yes. Did BYU win? Yes.

The Levell teams threw deep routes, to wide outs and over the middle to the Tight end...12 to 17 yards

You do the math...BYU averages 8 punts a game, some where in your math there are in complete passes, sacks and runs for no gain.

As the Bear once said, "When you take the risk on putting in the air, make sure you get paid for the risk..."

BTW, if you really want to see the old BYU passing attack...Watch the University of Florida and their all american QB...combo of both Young and Jimmy Mac.

Never fire a coach for a loss, but always be open for correction and improvement...even the fans.
Beagle: '84 Lite? | 12:04 p.m. April 7, 2008
In your dreams, not even close!
Much simpler back then. THREE Running plays, Much more smash mouth. Here we come, stop us if you can.
The kind of plays most suited for FUI. Power, short to the point of attack...Himuli style..then the burst of speed through the linebackers.

Koz, Mills and Billini: one Collie?
Keep Dreaming, but one day it will all add up again.
