Thanks Bronco for all that you've done to return BYU to it's traditions! BYU is very fortunate to have you as their headcoach. Please stay... as long as you can.

I still love the Chad Lewis in China commercial. Makes me smile every time I see it.
Thanks Bronco and Thanks Chad for representing the school so well.

Great article !!! Bronco Mendenhall is an exceptional man and a very good football coach. It's great to hear Chad Lewis sing his praises. I'm looking forward to a great 2008 season.

Chad Lewis has said it all. He could not be more clear or more correct.

Great job. Also note that these hundreds of former players help to find talent for future teams. Bodes well for the future.

When the position became available, I remember Chad Lewis pushing support for Lance Reynolds to be the head coach. Of course he didn't know Bronco any more than we did. Now Bronco's demonstrated to EVERYONE that he was the right guy for the job - even Lewis is sold! Lance Reynolds himself agrees. I remember that article as well.
A role-model for us all!

Bronco did grow up being a cougarfan near Provo with his father and brother playing at BYU. He wanted but did not get a scholarship at the BYU. So..this may of given him an extra "I Will" to establish, rediscover and implement the traditions he has at the Y.

I dont think he was accepted.

As one who hasn’t had physical skills to be part of team sports, but as a fan, I applaud Mendenhall asking previous players to come home. He is building a foundation under the Cougar program that, if continued by future coaches, will provide a stability that we see in other great programs. Today’s players are standing on the shoulders of the Chad Lewises who contribute even today. Knowing Brady, Margin, Cameron, Chad, Justin, Reno and the host of other players I've had the privilege to cheer, are among those who provide this foundation. It insures a strengthening of the foundation. In years to come, I hope more and more former players add to the program each year. That kind of continuity in years to come will make it more and more difficult to beat the Cougars. Go Cougs!

There are many who have been over-looked by the BYU Sports Program. Many have had aching hearts because they or their loved ones were deemed not good enough. It is somewhat of a sports miracle that spurned as a player who was deemed not good enough, Bronco has become an integral part in re-establishing BYU Football. However, realize and remember that this adoration will only continue as BYU continues to dominate. One need only look at what happened to Gary Crowton during his time at
BYU to see what will happen when Bronco no longer meets the Cougars need to dominate.

Perspective: You mean, the way LaVell dominated during his last fifteen years? Only three of those seasons could be considered really successful (Two of the Detmer years and the '96 Sarkisian year), and yet LaVell had a ticket to stay on as long as he wanted.
With what he has already acheived, it would take a lot more than a few mediocre seasons for BYU to even consider sacking Bronco. BYU's track record with harshness towards coaches is better than most universities in the country (esp. BCS schools).
The vast majority of us are not good enough to play for the Cougars. That's just part of business and life. When I was about fourteen, I realized I would never be good enough to play for the Cougars. However, at about the same time, I realized I was good at other things, so I have developed those talents. I would recommend the same to those with aching hearts mentioned in the comment by "Perspective."

When a coach works to determine who will make his/her roster, ability is not the only consideration. There are so many intangibles. Sometimes it just is not a fit. The goal of any school is to bring back players that can contribute to the future of your program along with recruiting. It's great to see this now happening at BYU.

Altho Bronco wanted to play @ BYU after high school & after Snow college, BYU coaches determined he wasn't talented enough to offer him, (which just goes to show how exceedingly difficult it is to judge talent)...Obviously they mis-evaluated, since he went on to Ore. St...However, he made lemonade out of lemons by paying his dues as a coach at various levels & now Bronco has "the last laugh" He showed everyone that they made a mistake in talent evaluation, but if you had to choose between being a BYU player or BYU HEAD COACH, who wouldn't take the head coaching job!?!? Keep up the great job, Bronco!!

Bronco could go 0-12 the next 5 seasons and still stay if he wanted to, okay, maybe 1-11. Let's make it 3 in a row against Utah, and if it's not on the last play of regulation or overtime this year I'll be disappointed.

The most amazing thing Bronco has accomplished is to win with players who uphold the honor code, not any easy task in this day and age. It wasn't long ago that many of you were calling for an alternate honor code so that BYU could recruit the players needed to compete "on the highest level". I was beginning to settle on the realization that it was better to lose than to win with the cheaters, thieves, pill poppers, rapists and boozers.
Bronco...I don't know how you have done it in 3 years but you have. Congratulations!

I'm from NM yet enjoy BYU Football (alumni 80'-82')I'm proud of the young men who travel; practice, study and put up with lobo fans! You have a great image and are being watched more than you know. If your basketball and football teams played on Sundays you would get higher seedings and national rankings. Yet you do not. I'll cheer for you in Albuquerque and against you in Provo. Simply because I no longer like the Utah atmosphere. T

Why did you have to remind me of that loss to UTEP. I'm still haunted by our loss to UTEP. I was at the game. Their fans tore down both goal posts and mocked me all the way to my car.

The strength of the Cougar Nation under Lavelle Edwards was apparent long before Tye Detmer or Sarkesian stepped on the field. Virgil Carter,Gifford Nielson,Mark Wilson,Jim McMahon and Steve Young paved the road for Detmer's Heisman and the team protecting Robie Bosco and going undefeated during the the 83 season giving them the title in 84 still is the best fielded by BYU.
Detmer never came close to playing with the intensity of Jim McMahon, nor did he ever rally a team for a comeback like McMahon did in the Holiday Bowl against SMU with Eric Dickerson and Craig James no less. The CBS documentary about McMahon entitled "The Devine Mistake" is no fluke. McMahon's 57 NCAA records with 17 new catagories for QB's is phenominal when you consider that he was blind in one eye and sat on the bench as backup to Mark Wilson for two of his eligible years. Doug Flutie had a lot more playing time at Boston College in comparison when he eventually broke McMahon's total passing record.

How hard could it have been? All five of their fans mocked you back to your car?

La Velle was no Cougar either. But look what he did.

Actually for the record. It was 71 NCAA records McMahon set. The 17 new catagories is correct.....there will never be another like him.

Max. Just keep your cool. Nobody expects you to be another MAC... but it wouldn't hurt to look at some of his films. His own advice would be to always square your shoulders to the direction your throwing before you release...... you certainly can't knock a 616 completion performance rating....am I right Pluto???.....so what iron do you suggest I use now on this next hole???

I think that the only person in America that can claim themselves True Blue is Dick Harmon. No objectivity whatsoever.
