These folks don't have the slightest clue as to the whole cost or what these light-in-the-loafers light rails will contribute.

An example of this foolishness is the West Valley TRAX line which UTA's Mick Crandall estimated to cost a total of $700 million, (build, operating, and finance costs), and is predicted to contribute a grand total of 0.00% impact on regional trip-making in the Salt-Lake-Ogden area. (Table 4.3-4: "Regional Weekday VMT for all Travel Modes" from the West Valley TRAX Final ESR ).

It is also boneheaded to build another train within one mile of billion-dollar FrontRunner. UTA will continue to run buses in parallel, as they are doing in Salt Lake.

There is now $19 billion taxdollars, from car-users, in the MAG and WFRC plans earmarked for UTA. Adding more foolish rails will increase that.

Yet, UTA's, magical, share of ALL trips is still 1%.

The Deseret Morning News arrogantly, contemptuously, and flagrantly treads upon its stewardship to provide reasonable and full reporting of important transportation-transit issues.

The all-consuming UTA bias at DMN in editorials and reporting do an irreparable disservice to Utah, including loss of lives in a daunting future.

Car-users everywhere need and deserve multi-tasking freeways.

I buried crritical details in previous post in details. To restate:

West Valley TRAX will give 0.00% impact for only $700 million long term cost.

Davis County faces similar foolish cost-to-benefit realities once studies are done for this rail.

Take the time to find out the real impacts and total costs for UTA rails in other areas.

Do your homework. Be good stewards. Take the time to walk along parts of these routes and imagine whether local folks will really gain anything from a train.

Imagine the impact on businesses as construction hurts them for a year or more. Then, on-street turn and parking will further limit access to their clientelle.

STOP Visioning!

Start learning. Learn both sides of the story.

Most desionmakers have used freeways thousands of times. But, transit, not at all. Start using transit yourselves and find out its limits, light rail or not.
