The nickname possibilities are endless.....

The Bucket
Finger Lickin' Field
any others anyone can think of?

Regardless, any nickname is better than the Radiation Station, Melta Center, Glow Dome, or whatever else they're calling it.

Can't wait for the stadium to open!

I can't wait to sing "Welcome to the Bucket, boys" in October!

Can Checketts even open his mouth without taking cheapshots at the Jazz and LHM? Why the heck does he, or anyone else care about what engerysolutions spends their money on? He only wishes he was getting the same kind of cash Larry is getting on his joint. PS, win a freaking game, and maybe someone will actually care about your crummy soccer team.
$1.5 - $2M | 10:31 a.m. March 27, 2008
To Dave Checketts: If you get anywhere close to $1.5M per year for a poor team in Utah, I will be more than impressed with your business accumen.

Can you name a "consumer brand" (I agree here, this is optimal, and Energy Solutions isn't a good choice despite your political niceness) that has strong Utah ties, would benefit from consumer advertising and is willing to tie themselves to a platform which doesn't get a lot of TV and has limited exposure regionally? Me neither.

Xango field? NuSkin? Perhaps ask Overstock to call it the "Big O" field. I bet Patrick Byrne would pay for it.
Get ready then.... | 1:01 p.m. March 27, 2008
....to be impressed. 'Cause the brand is here, and the money is coming.

Love Dave
Limited TV? | 1:15 p.m. March 27, 2008
Maybe you're thinking of Utah/BYU sports, but MLS has no problem with TV. Every RSL game was on TV last year, over half of them were on national TV.

Getting $1.5M seems realistic when you consider that there are currently 3 companies trying to outbid each other. And I trust the business acumen of the people involved a lot more than I trust yours, so there you go.
RE: Limited TV | 2:07 p.m. March 27, 2008
Uh, what national broadcasters are you thinking of? Last time I checked, unless you by the MLS direct kick package, you don't get to watch all the games on tv. I can count on one hand the number of times they were on ESPN. Now it may be different on other providers, but atleast on satellite there were about 10 out of 30 games broadcast. Maybe cable got more....?

Typical American sports fan.......thinking that ESPN is the only national sports channel.

RSL had 16 games on ESPN, Fox Soccer Channel, and HDnet. Those are all national channels, and that constitutes 50% of their schedule.

Next....

Hey, did you hear that some stupid sport, AFL, some slow game with fatties that take breaks after a 5 second play to rest for 30 seconds... that team... can't get a "W."

Until your team wins, shut your pie hole.

Utah Blaze? how about they got blazed. Plastered, can't win. can't even tie! Always losers. you already lost a 1/4 of your games for the whole season. What, your team only loses. Go blaze yourself.

The Utah Blaze definately deserve to be in the ESA. Maybe it is sapping their energy. Nope. They just stink and play the lamest game ever.

Enjoy!
Re: Limited TV | 3:24 p.m. March 27, 2008
Really? Go look at their schedule. I count 6 games on TV. Unless you are counting the pay package. Which doesn't count. And of those 6 only 3 are on ESPN, the others are on FSC or some other regional sports channel.
Re: Watch more soccer | 4:03 p.m. March 27, 2008
Fox Soccer Channel and HDnet? What? Are those real? Until soccer moves mainstream, no one will care. How many households actually have or watch FSC or HDnet?
Re: Watch more soccer | 4:26 p.m. March 27, 2008
"Until soccer moves mainstream, no one will care"?

Apparently people already do care. Too bad you're not among them. You might find pro soccer to be on a whole different level than little kids soccer if you gave it a chance, but somehow I don't think you will.

America has a thriving professional league, stadiums are popping up all over the country, some of the top players in the world are coming here, attendance is growing steadily (soccer now outdraws the NBA in many markets). There's a chance to be part of the future - hop on the wagon or get left behind.

How about Utah Tax Payer Stadium?
ATL | 5:49 p.m. March 27, 2008
Utah Tax Payer Stadium? That would be good if it did come from Utah taxes. Remember $110 million dollar stadium, with $35 Million coming from Hotel Taxes (The same tax used to expand the Salt Palace. Unlike Franklin Quest 90% and the E Center 100% of taxpayer money that came from Salt Lake and WVC taxpayers). I haven't paid a cent for the State's portion of the stadium. I haven't stayed in a hotel in Utah, but if I did, until 2011, that money is going towards the Salt Palace...which no one complained about.

"No one likes soccer because we suck at it."

I've never even been to NAmerica but I'm interested in RSL, so stop carping. It's a good thing that the club is developing its infrastructure and progressing on the playing front - getting a sss will anchor the team in the area and allow stonger roots to be forged with the community, while the moves made by Kreis make him look like he knows what he is doing. Have faith!

I have no idea who or what the Blaze or Jazz are - are they, like, junior teams or something?
Franz | 11:23 p.m. March 27, 2008
KFC stadium would be fantastic - We could all go to games at the "bucket"

Besides that and XANGO I am unaware of any other rumors of naming rights.

P.S. C'mon soccer haters is that the best you can give us? What pathetic attempts at being irritable.
The bucket? | 2:54 p.m. March 28, 2008
Do people really want this? Even The Sand Castle would be better than that.
How 'bout State St. Stadium sponsored by ...[whomever wants to pay up].

As long as the team is Real SL, what about El Stádio?

I find it very interesting that most of the people that respond on these blogs are those that are negative...if you don't like soccer then don't respond and find another avenue for your complaints. I think to have more entertainment in a very small state is great. At least this gives fans and those that will become fans a chance to see the Worlds greatest game. If you have never lived out of the country then you would not understand what I am talking about. The world does not embrace American Football, Baseball or Basketball as the sports to watch but football or soccer is the once sport that is accepted world wide. Please understand that most small states and cities like Salt Lake City would never see a team like Real or even have the chance to have a new stadium like the one that is being built. It takes time to build success so give the team a chance and if you don't like it then that is fine. Let us enjoy it and maybe one day you will find that you will enjoy it too...Go Real...Keep fighting...
