I had a baby born prematurely at the U of U hospital and can personally attest to the kindness of the nursing staff. Thanks for sharing Penny's story. Too often people who work on the night shift go unnoticed!

Thanks for sharing Penny! I love hearing about it and have seen your dedication to your work first hand. it is a great thing to give a little extra attention to those who staff the hospitals regardless of hour of the day or day of the year.

Sydney just came home from Penny's care about six weeks ago. It was a rough three months at the U, but Penny (and the other nurses) made it much easier. I didn't get to meet too many day nurses as I was often working. Penny made the night shift come alive. She has a way of relating to what the parents are going through. She is a true credit to her profession.

I've been working the night shift since 2002. My travel recruiter talked me into it. I lived and traveled in Richmond, Va. It was the only assignment in Richmond at the time and I needed to work ASAP!!! I tried it and I've never return to days. I should tell you this, I tried day shift two months ago and I could not think or function. I am now back on nights. I am alive again. I no longer work in the hospital. I am working privite duty peds. My company tried to talk me into days hence the day shifts two months ago. I told them I am more alive at night. Penny, your story truly made the night shift come alive.

I worked with Penny and I think she is the most compassionate and caring person I have ever met. I know that if I had a baby or any family member that needed care that I would want her to be the one in charge. She gives all the love that she has inside to every patient that she sees and if it wasn't for her many of those patients would lose the hope that they do have and in there that is easy to do. I just hope that all nurses could work with her just one time so they could learn what real feeling and caring is. If I was a nurse I could only hope that I might be half as good as her. I love ya penny and miss you all so much. april

After working in the ED for 29 years there are quite a few similarities with the dedicated nurses who do what we do because we love it.
Great story, great nurse, great profession. Makes us all look good. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful nurse's story.
