One difference between the different races in the United States is that a Caucasian doesn't see another Caucasian and think to themselves they have found one of their own or someone who looks like them. For those who wish race is not recognized you will need to stop pointing out the differences and start emphasizing similarities.

Conejo, I agree, stop pointing out differences & start emphasizing similarities.
To me, I see the news media bending over backward & rolling into a pretzel just to prove they're not racist, but cause a reverse racism effect.
Try using this pattern to set-up an "Annual Caucasian High School Conference" or a "United Caucasian College Fund" & you will have people running around & screaming "Racism".
We all need to realize that we are all one race, the human race!

MEChA, La Raza ( The Race), Movimento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan, a Latino student social-justice group ( actually , Mexican first reonquesta movement to remove hites from the Western states and remove the boarder between Mexico and the US).
"All of us are immigrants here," said Anarosa Hermenegildo, 16, a Cottonwood High School student who wants to become a registered nurse. "You don't hear in the news about Japanese immigrants or European immigrants. Legalmigrants OK ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS remove. There is a difference. Most likely a problem with being boost educated.
If you are so smart and qualified drop the special programs advantage and go head on for the slots.

Conejo, Thank you Thank you Thank you! I am so glad I am not the only one who see this!
my two cents | 10:47 a.m. March 12, 2008
I am glad to see Hispanic youths seeking higher education. I have seen studies showing high-school drop-out rates for different demographic groups and Hispanics have always had disproportionately high drop-out rates. I hope seminars such as this help decrease the drop-out rates for Hispanics.
It’s too bad there is mention of illegal vs legal aliens in the story. That is the best way to perpetuate the myth that all Hispanics are here illegally; while many are, most are not and are unfairly made guilty by association.

I have no problem with anyone wanting to be educated. Lets do it in an orderly fashion and above board. No special perks or favors. straight and fair. When this girl says she wants to be a nurse, hope she realizes that her legal statis in the US will become apparent. Part of the paperwork in getting licensed asks questions as to where and when born. If out side US, then more questions are asked. If she is above board, she should have no problems, assuming she has the grades to get into nursing school. Same goes for the other areas of schooling. The time does come when question have to be answered to get the required license. All young people of what ever background should be aware that background checks are common when getting specialized licenses after college.

I look forward to the day when a man is not judged by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.
People should be allowed to sink or swim based on merit not race.
Do not support racist groups or ideas like La Raza, MEChA, Affirmative Action, etc.

If the parents are here legally than they by all means should focus on getting educated. Education keeps people out of trouble and they aren't robbing and stealing for money-- if they are educated. They as well should foot the bill for their own education and not the USA citizen taxpayer.

It is too bad that we continue to judge people by their race and ethnicity! Dr. Martin Luther King over forty years ago said in his "I Have a Dream" speech that people should be judged by their character and not by the color of their skin. We are tragically continuing to do just that. Racism isn't solved by reverse racism because it is still racism even if it is sanctioned by a government agency or a private group. I hope and pray for the success of these kids in their academic quests. I hope that they will feel more a part of "The American Dream", asimilate into the American Culteral Mainstream, and contribute in a very positive way to American Society. The United States has survived large immigration waves in the past over a period of time and adjustment. I expect this latest hispanic wave to be no different. I hope and pray that in the end, that they will be proud to be citizens of the United States of Hispanc heritage. Thank-You

One other thing. The reason you don't hear about Japanese or European immigrants is because the percentages are so small when compared to Immigrants from Mexico. Does anyone think any other country has 10-20 million ILLEGAL immigrants in the United States? That is the reason people talk about it, not because of some agenda against the Spanish. The fact is The numbers involved are bound to create an impact on many levels.

First illegal alien high school students need to pursue their college education in their home countries. Did you know that public universities in MEXICO are free to Mexican nationals? There is no reason nor justification for allowing illegal aliens to be admitted to our public colleges/universities and even worse, to subsidize their tuition.

First of all, it is ironic to call yourself latina when you say "...for allowing illegal aliens to be admitted to OUR public colleges". You're ignorant in the sence that you obviously do not know the struggle we the so called "illegal aliens" go through because you're probably a second generation Latina. It is a shame you put your roots down, you also don't know that public universities in Mexico provide lower education than universities that the wealthy class attends. First identify who you really are and then maybe you can make ignorant comments.
