Lutherans are the "frozen chosen"? Since when? I attended Lutheran services in two different states for years and years, and I never heard the phrase.

Huh. Oh well, makes for a good story.

Garrison Keillor's Lake Wobegone Lutherans might qualify as the "frozen chosen," especially this winter. I've never heard the term before either.

Were either of those states in the upper mid-west?

I work two cubes down from a Lutheran that was born in Minnesota and he uses the phrase all the time.

I hear what you're saying about ordinance vs. performance. Even so, I always appreciate it when the young man blessing the water puts the stress on the word "them" in "which was shed for them."
