TO: Enough Romney Already. Since Romney consulted with President Hinckley before
he ran for President and Romney talked with President Hinckley during the
Oplimpics I assume his assesment of President Hinckley as a great leader would
be just as valuable as all the many thousands of other assesments of President
Hinckley would be. After all he is himself LDS. For a momnet please try to
separate politics from President Hinckley's funeral.
Romney did not speak to reporters when he left the funeral today. That assesment was taken at another time.

The comment I find most offensive is "The governor is not doing any
politicking in the state of Utah. He's here to pay his respects to Gordon
Hinckley." The second sentence is really appreciated and a lot of people
feel the same way but Romney hasn't and isn't campaigning in Utah
because he is taking Utah for granted. It seems odd that Romney would come to
Utah when the Prophet dies while avoding us for the rest of the election. Such
disrespect for President Hinckley won't go unnoticed on Tuesday and may
Mitt Romney pray for forgiveness for his actions since the only one who can
forgive him is Heavenly Father.
We hear Bernick criticize the candidates including Obama for not focusing on Utah and he criticizes Barack Obama for doing the right thing and canceling his trip to Utah today out of respect for President Hinckley's funeral services but Mitt Romney seized upon an opportunity for free press and used the Prophet to do so. He should be ashamed. I know I would be. He is no different than Hillary Clinton, John McCain and all the others who have ignored Utah. Obama did the right thing. What about Romney?

Mitt Romney attended the funeral because he is a member of the Church and he
loves and sustains his prophet. I think it says much of his character that he
would take time out of his campaigning to honor President Hinckley. I hope and
pray Mitt wins, and I wish the naysayers would keep their unhelpful griping to a
minimum.

loved this great man like the rest of us. We are all grieving over the loss of
one of the best men that has ever lived on earth and all people want to do is
criticize every move of every little thing that happens...

You guys that criticize everything Romney does are pathetic. Can't you
just give him the benefit of the doubt for once and realize that he is human
too? If he hadn't come to the funeral the same people would have
criticized him for THAT.

I'm a Romney supporter and didn't think his going to the funeral was a
good idea since it would attract more MORMON attention the weekend before Super
Tuesday. BUT..because Mitt is a good man more interested in doing what's
right personally than politically, he attended the funeral.

These comments are totally out of line. Mitt Romney took precious time out of
his campain to pay respects for someone he greatly respected. To me this shows
that Romney knows what is most important in life and being true to your values
and beliefs means more to him than camera time. Let's keep this political
process in perspective and do it with some class instead of mean spiritedness.

Why should Romney be excluded from attending the funeral of a prophet so loved
by LSD members? Romney is LDS. It didn't help him in his campaign to win
the election. The last Saturday before Super Tuesday is not a good time to stop
the campaign and attend a funeral. I am grateful I am not in the public eye to
have someone full of odium scrutinize my desire to pay last respects to a
prophet and his family. He was interviewed (at the request of the media)prior to
the funeral but he could have done that from California or any other state.

What a great day! Beautiful services honoring our prophet. Many good people
gathered around the world to pay tribute to a great leader. One of President
Hinckley's many gifts was that of unconditional love and acceptance. It
would be fitting to honor him by extending that acceptance to all guests who
took the time and came to honor our prophet.
Thank you for coming, Governor Romney. And thank you to all the other dignitaries and thousands of "ordninary people" who made this day so inspiring.
Let's "follow the prophet" and be gracious to our guests. President Hinckley set a great example of greeting the world and members alike with dignity. We can do the same.
It may be difficult to resist criticism and fault-finding, but we can do it. President Hinckley would expect us to.

You can second guess yourself to death. Barack Obama didn't come to Utah
"in deference to the funeral." Instead he went to Idaho and he
mentioned President Hinckley there. Boise is not like Utah in its percentage of
members, but there were certainly LDS members in the crowd. Did he mention the
Prophet because he sincerely wanted to or was it political? Did Romney come
because he wanted to or was it political? Harry Reid came to the funeral. Was
that political? I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt.
One of the commentators on KBYU mentioned the stark contrast between the succession of the President of the Church and the succession of the President of the U.S. Regardless of the heart and motives of a politician today, I am certain of the heart and motives of President Monson, our next Prophet. It is comforting to see the difference.

I think Romney is smart not to worry about campaigning here because he knows as
we do that he will carry Utah. He does need to focus more time on other states
in question. McCain's not coming either, because he knows this too
despite Huntsman's endorsement. The fact is, most presidential candidates
don't worry about Utah, especially in general elections, because they know
which way we will vote. Be offended if you want, it won't affect anyone
else.

Someone wonderful has died and he will be missed. Mitt has just as much right
to come here as anyone else. He has a heart full of love for the Lord's
prophet. I was impressed that he took time away (even with the prospect of what
it may cost him) to come here and say goodbye to a great man.

Romney has Utah wrapped up.
Why in the world would he need to campaign here?
Whoever said Romney was here for political reasons is a simple minded Romney hater.
In all honesty..for Romney to campaign in Utah right before super Tuesday would be a rather stupid move. He needs to spend time out where he is behind...or where it is too close. Utah is Romney's and he knows it.

They're right. Mittney doesn't need to campaign anywhere there are
mormons, but especially here. he gets a fair amount of free press here. An
unfair amount, really. To that end, I don't see anything political about
his being here for the funeral.

I want to say that Romney is a great leader and thank you for the respect you
gave to our leader as busy as you were Good luck and may we have a real
president with morals as well as knowing our book of mormon and respecting our
need for service to us all as Gorden B Hinkley did. Service keep that in mind
brother and sisters respect to us all even in a time that saddens all of us

It is called R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Romney honored a man who was a great example to him.
He did what was right and honorable. Nobody made a political issue of
dignitaries paying their respect to the pope. . .

Romney did a honorable thing by standing by our Great Prophet and Leader.
Romney is running for a difficult position which is the president. He too, is
representing the LDS people. I would like to see him as a leader as he is and

I loved the picture of Romney, Leavitt and Reed all talking to each other, in
politics they are divided, in church they are united. Romney was not in Utah
for furthering his campaign, in all reality, it probably cost him, because he
was not able to be in places where he needs to try to win votes. He was in Utah
as a high LDS public official to pay respect to our Prophet, if he had not been
there, it would have been a selfish thing to do. He did the right thing and it
had nothing to do with running for President.

Romney probably would have been at Preisdent Hinckley's funeral between his
having worked with President Hinckley on the olympics and his Dad having gone to
High School with President Hinckley.
In response to Romney overplaying his Mormon faith. If Romney has to hide that he is a Mormon to get elected that this country does not embrace Religious Freedom. I am glad Romney was there, and more glad President Monson did not mention it. President Monson is a good man who has a good way of avoiding saying things that might be misinterpreted.

Thanks for fixing me, always trying to better myself and learn new things that will make me a better person. Good thing I did not say I was perfect at spelling and grammar, I merely extolled the virtues of being good at it{:)

Mitt won BIG (52%) in Maine and it likely to get all 18 delegates there
according to AP, Yahoo, etc..

I have an idea, after reading these posts. How about if we do away with
elections and run the gov't like the Church is run. The leaders are
choosen from within the ranks of those who have shown expertise and ability, the
callings to the top level (would be the President and his cabinet) are life-long
positions, with the next President being called upon the death of the previous.
Then, there are no elections, there are no campaigns, there are no photo ops,
there are no endless streams of TV commercials, and there would be no reason for
people like us to blog about who is doing what and why?
