Lisa Hansen awoke one morning to the sounds of someone moving around inside her house. Then someone ran up her stairs and attempted to open her bedroom door. "I waited to listen to see how many footsteps I heard," Hansen said. Deciding there was only one intruder, Hansen grabbed her cell phone and reached for a gun she keeps under her bed. She ran out of the room, confronted the burglar and held him at gunpoint until police arrived. The would-be burglar turned out to be a teenager who lives in the neighborhood and had previously done some lawn work for Hansen. The teen said he had entered her home only because he saw a man in there, but Hansen did not believe the explanation. Police later discovered a checkbook belonging to Hansen's cousin in the boy's pocket.
What we think about expands - and gun freaks obsess on enemies being everywhere.

George Finch, 75, was sleeping in his recliner when he heard the sounds of glass breaking. Someone had broken a back window and was now entering his home. Finch then got his gun and encountered the interloper in his kitchen. "He stepped into the kitchen and he [the intruder] was right there. My dad told him to stop," Finch's daughter, Debbie Skaggs, recalls her father telling her. Finch told her the man 'just kept coming' so he fired one shot, hitting the would-be thief in the leg. The wounded man, later identified by police as Kevin Richardson, made his escape through the same window he had entered, ran a short distance and collapsed. Richardson, who died shortly thereafter, had a history of theft, trespass and prostitution arrests.

Barbara Holland closed her used car lot for the day and drove home. She had checked to make sure the handgun she has carried since 1992 was loaded after a strange encounter at the car lot left her feeling uneasy. Holland pulled the car into the driveway and, as she entered her side door, Holland bent down to retrieve something she had dropped. Suddenly a man armed with a gun came rushing at her. Holland tried to slam her door on him, but the man shoved the door open and Holland fell back on her landing. Lying on her back, Holland snatched her pistol from its holster, ready to protect herself and her 15-year-old daughter who was home at the time. Her assailant's glare changed. "He looked surprised," she says. Holland recalls firing three times, but authorities later confirmed six shots. Police identified Holland's attacker, who died at the scene, as an ex-con named Clabe Hunt.

Though wounded, Jimmy Ham finally managed to secure a gun and kill Tuell with one shot. Kristina Tuell was later arrested after a massive manhunt and faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

A homeowner in Shelby, Ala., found four men breaking into his home, so he retrieved a gun, fired and wounded one man. It was later learned the man was one of four inmates who had escaped from a Georgia prison.
It says WARNING and underneath it is a Gun with a circle around it and a line across it making the sign stating that Guns are not allowed.
In the Circle and the crossline it says "POTENTIAL HIGH CRIME AREA !" "ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK !"
"CRIMINALS WELCOME"
Under neath that it says
"YOUR LIFE MAY BE IN DANGER!".
"By denying law abiding citizens their right to carry concealed weapon, this establishment is extending an open invitation to theives, murderers, rapists, drug users,gang-bangers,pedophiles and other assorted felons!
Beneath that it says "Remember, when seconds counts, the police are minutes away
Seems to me when you focus on "thieves, murderers, rapists, drug users, gang-bangers, pedophiles and other assorted felons!" ...
this might adversely affect one's personality.
I was just "quoting" the Sign as I saw it.
Expands ??? What do you mean ??? Give examples, Please.
"thieves, murderers, rapists, drug users, gang-bangers, pedophiles, and other assorted felons" I would suggest turning off the TV for starters.
Doesn't affect, my life one way or the other.
Start a militia too if it makes you less frightened.
What you think about expands: focus, concentration, center of activity, attention, etc. Tiger Woods has this phenomenon down pat - he becomes the ball.
Now what do you think would happen if one's focal point is: "thieves, murderers, rapists, drug users, gang-bangers, pedophiles, and other assorted felons?"
How many of you are concerned, afraid or paranoid that the government has the power, the means & the will, to rescind the 2nd amendment?
And before you jump all over me, it's just an innocent question.
1. We dont carry firearms so that we can ignore other basics of personal safety.
Every permit holder that I know realizes that almost all dangerous situations can be avoided by vigilance, alertness and by simply making wise choices about where one goes and what one does. We dont walk down dark alleys. We lock our cars. We dont get intoxicated in public or hang out around people who do. We park our cars in well lighted spots and dont hang out in bad parts of town where we have no business. A gun is our last resort, not our first.
We arent hoping that somebody tries to rob the convenience store while we are there so we can shoot a criminal. We dont take it upon ourselves to get involved in situations that are better handled by a 911 call or by simply standing by and being a good witness. We dont believe our guns give us any authority over our fellow citizens. We also arent here to be your unpaid volunteer bodyguard. Well be glad to tell you where we trained and point you to some good gun shops if you feel you want to take this kind of responsibility for your personal safety. Except for extrordinary circumstances your business is your business, dont expect us to help you out of situations you could have avoided.
That is us. No Billy The Kids, no Dirty Callahans, no Rambos, just average folks who made a conscious decission about our persona safety.
In EVERY state that concealed or open carry was apprved, the Brady Bunchers and the Nay Sayers predicted Wild West Shootouts and blood on the streets... IT-NEVER-HAPPENED. We are now what? 34, 35 states with CWPs and the anti-gunners keep repeating the same tired mantra and you guys keep buying it? Who is the crazy? who is the fool?
1. I am for Leagally armed citizens. The part I don't like about the open carry is that these people are not required to be trained on firearm use. I don't think that any person able to buy a gun should be allowed to carry it. I think that if you want to carry a gun in Utah, you should be trained first. And I don't mean point, aim, fire. There is more to gun use that hitting a target on a gun range. Plus, gang bangers could just start openly arrying. There needs to be some investigation and training done.
2. I am a cop and I don't want a bunch of vigilante justice citizens confronting bad guys. Defend yourself? Absolutely! Go hunting? No way! Instances like Trolley Square could go south in a hurry if a bunch of plain clothes citizens start going after shooters. You should barracade yourself and protect those you are with, Then stay put and let cops be cops. Also be prepared to do EXACTLY what the cops tell you to do. They are not going to be happy when they fist spot you with a weapon.
I'm not picking on them, you're absolutely right, they are citizens. If that's the case why don't give them mentally disabled people? Are they not citizens? It's because it's not safe! The last thing I want is to be around a blind man when he opens fire! It's like I said before, if you can't see what's in front of you, you shouldn't carry a gun. It's about the safety of everybody else!
Another LEO with a Heavy Badge...Dont we just LOVE them.
"You can have a gun...as long as it's stashed away and I can't see it and I can be THE ONLY ONE with a gun"
Another Person that became an Offier so that "I HAVE A BADGE AND THEREFORE I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN CARRY A GUN".
I carry a Gun for protection BECAUSE the Police cannot be there when I need it. By the Way...Law Enforcement is under NO OBLIGATION/DUTY to Protect the Individual.
Goggle: "Police Have NO Duty to Protect Individuals"
"It is, therefore, a fact of law and of practical necessity that individuals are responsible for their own personal safety, and that of their loved ones. Police protection must be recognized for what it is: only an auxiliary general deterrent."
Why would I need to "carry an arsenal of weaponry"?
Do you think I should keep four spare tires in my truck? One is usually sufficient.
And you are right, it doesn't affect your life. So why are you so worried about it? If your community is so safe that no one has a reason to be armed, then none of the people who are armed will ever have a reason to draw their weapons. If they never draw their weapons they can't accidentally shoot innocent bystanders. If one of them does have a psychotic break and starts shooting innocent people do you think other armed citizens are going to join them? It would be more reasonable to assume that another armed citizen or a law enforcement officer (if any were around) would do what they can to put an end to the situation.
And as far as my being frightened of something, forming a militia would not be a solution. Enlightening those that out of their own fear and ignorance attempt to deny someone their rights is.
If you mean the gangs where people have felony convictions for assault, drugs, theft etc, then no, they would not be legally permited to open carry, because their possesion of firearms is illegal. That is why gang bangers hide their weapons. They are not supposed to have them.
Re: your questions about those who own assault rifles.
I own an assault rifle: specifically, a fully automatic AK47. That's a machine gun to the uninformed. Its one of several guns I own. Each of my weapons has a specific purpose. So whats your question regarding people who own such weapons?
Don't call us "red-necks" here in Utah. The "red-neck" States are too far away from here. Politically correct "Red-necks" are Appalachian Americans.
If you don't feel comfortable around us, which is your Right, MOVE to a place that you feel comfortable with. Email me and tell me and we will move there so that I will NEVER worry about ANY Criminal activity...It's not gonna happen.

Perhaps it was you and not Anonymous inquiring about assault rifle owners. If so' I'll repeat my post
I own an assault rifle, a fully automatic AK47 to be specific. Its one of several guns I own. Each of my weapons has a specific purpose. So whats your question regarding people who own such weapons?
Say, you wouldn't mind hanging a sign around your neck telling everyone that you have an assault gun, would you?
I really don't want to get caught up in any Rambo fantasy of yours.
Way too much TV-watching.
Nobody will hold anything against you for this.
Re; your suggestion I advertise owning an assault rifle:
Actually, most of the people I know are aware I own an assault rifle; the reasons why I own it, and have no problem with it. The fact that you know nothing about me other than your own fantasies, means I could care less about your opinions. Theyre fantasies in your own mind with no basis in reality. But since you seem fearful of living in an armed society, I invite you to move to the UK where guns are banned. Im sure youll feel safer there, even though, since the 1997 gun ban, violent crime increased 45%, surpassing that of the US. Lotsa luck.
