If the Jazz use their head not their heart we have to let Paul go. That is too much money. Plus Portland is just bluffing let them enjoy overpaying and screwing their chances of getting a free agent. That's a team that needs a guard not a PF. If I was KOC I call Paul and say Paul we love you but we can't keep you. Good luck in Portland.

he's not.
It's A No Brainer | 5:24 p.m. July 10, 2009
Let Milsap go and go to the Knicks with a trade for Boozer. They get Booze(and maybe their pick back) we get David Lee in a sign and trade with Lee getting a 4 year worth 30 mil, and Jeffries.

Sorry, I guess we'll "See Ya Later".

Have a good life Millsap.
hmm | 5:31 p.m. July 10, 2009
that's is a steep price for a player coming off the bench... not worth it
Anonymous | 5:32 p.m. July 10, 2009
bye bye millsap. I can't wait to see Boozer wail on you when we play portland. Then everyone will see that Boozer really is deserving of his all star status and be glad he's on our team. I don't know if I'm down with a trade scenario. Alas another player falls for the lure of big bucks. at 8 mil a year that is way too much for a millsap type player.
The world | 5:34 p.m. July 10, 2009
won't end if Milsap goes to Portland. It would be nice to keep him here no doubt, but if he leaves Sloan will get someone else to step up. Anyone out there think Koufos should get significantly more playing time? That he'd be the new Milsap - popular, hard worker, someone you could count on - if asked?
Good | 5:38 p.m. July 10, 2009
for Milsap. Enjoy it...
Daniel Drew | 5:41 p.m. July 10, 2009
The Jazz will match if they can trade Boozer in the next week. If the Jazz can't trade Boozer in the next week, say bye bye to Millsap. Or what they may do is do the three way deal with Portland and Chicago bring in Power Forward Tyrus Thomas who is a better defender than Boozer and far cheaper than either at $4.7 million this next season. It makes sense too, since the Jazz just gave Okur a 2 year extension.

anonymous | 5:42 p.m. July 10, 2009
we should try and keep him. He is way better than boozer any day and stays healthy!!!!!
JazzSpazz | 5:44 p.m. July 10, 2009
I was just watching an interview with Chris Broussard from ESPN. He was saying he had spoken with KOC and KOC had indicated that getting Millsap back is priority #1 and (as many on the board have be correctly speculating) are doing everything they can to move Boozer in order to do so. Looks like Boozer has given his blessing to being traded (big surprise).

Anyway, although I absolutely love Millsap (definitely one of my top 3-4 favorite Jazz players) I think the Jazz would be foolhardy to match. Way too much money for a 6'6" PF, especially with the salary cap projected to go down again in 2010-11. If the Jazz can move Boozer in the next 7 days, though, it looks like they may do just that. Oh well, I hope the front office thinks this one through well before pulling the trigger.
I think the Jazz match | 5:44 p.m. July 10, 2009
It's a hard sel to the fan base. The the signing of CJ looks really stupid.
This year is not looking good. | 5:45 p.m. July 10, 2009
I think this should be a restructuring year for the jazz. Let's use this year to set ourselves up for next year. Their will be a top 10 draft pick for us, and plenty of high contributing free agents out there. This year do what you must and get ready for next year. I am not saying we don't go out and play as best we can this year or work deal that will help now, but don't make the mistake of not looking at next year lot's of possibilities.
Zach | 5:45 p.m. July 10, 2009
Either way Portland dominates the Jazz with ease next year! Go Blazers!!!
Paul Milsap | 5:46 p.m. July 10, 2009
I hate to lose Paul. He plays the game the way it should be played. Humble, even though he is very good, and a hard worker. Not too many of those left in the NBA. But if he has to leave, I'm glad he's getting a good pay-day. He deserves it.

I really like to see them set rid of Boozer and keep Paul. Booz is just coasting... putting in his time and taking it easy while continuing to cash his checks. He doesn't deserve the money he is being paid. He knows it and we all know it. Paul will continue to work hard and get better. Booz is already in semi-retirement. I say cut him loose.
Ohh well! | 5:47 p.m. July 10, 2009
I like Milsap a whole lot but we should let hime go. That is a lot of money for a player who seemed to get beat up towards the middle of the season. Sure he was playing really well but his knees started to give out mid-season, his numbers dropped dramatically after that. We can trade Boozer and get a decent PF that can defend and score. If we can "dump" Boozer we have money to spend. Either that or we can get an equal trade for him. David Lee is a RFA right? Why not offer him a deal? With him out of NY that hurts NY and may add value to the draft pick they owe us next season. We could possibly have a top 5 pick if Lee is gone, that would be great!
macnamara | 5:49 p.m. July 10, 2009
Boozer is already gone it just hasn't happened yet. The Jazz had better match or they'll be wondering where their starting PF is going to come from. According to Chris Broussard, who broke the story at ESPN, the Jazz have informed Boozer that they have "no plans to offer him a long term deal past the end of this season"!........to which Carlos answered, "then get it done as soon as possible".
George | 5:50 p.m. July 10, 2009
Let Portland have Milsap and sign Josh Duncan. This guy looks like he can play. Mayner did not olay well in the summer league. Give Kruger a chance to play. He has a 50% average from 3pt territory and out played mayner 3 to 1. If you give Milsap 9 million a year, utah will have cap problems for years.
4Show | 5:52 p.m. July 10, 2009
The jazz need to let sap go for sure. 8+change is just too much, especially when you look at the position the jazz can be in next year with an even better market and NY 1st round pick. I say let sap slide, do the Snooze trade, trade AK, and bring Koufos in to the fold already. After that hold out until next Summer.
Hello Sacramento | 5:54 p.m. July 10, 2009
Boozer you deserve a team like Sac, we will take Nocioni and their first round pick next year which will be a lottery, and gladly see you in Sac uniform this year. I believe the money works if not sweeten it with another low contract player from Sac so it does, then keep Milsap or match Portlands offer!
30seconds...go | 5:58 p.m. July 10, 2009
Despite the steep contract offer, there is no way the jazz let milsap go. Becaue Boozer will be our only solid PF...that's good news for this year, but after next year, he is gone...there is no way he stays in Utah after this season, and than the jazz will be stuck with no PF.

Don't worry Milsap will be back wearing #24 next season for the jazz. But Boozer is gone.
sandtown | 6:00 p.m. July 10, 2009
This is probably part of the three way trade with the Bulls. Portland signs Millsap for 8 Million. Utah gets Millsap back from Portland with Thomas from the Bulls, combined salaries about 12.5 million. Chicago gets Boozer from Jazz, salary 12.7 million and Portland gets what they always wanted from Chicago Heinrich, salary 9.5 Million. Salaries all work.
BigJazzfan | 6:06 p.m. July 10, 2009
The Jazz don't need to keep over paying for mediocre talent, role payers, and bench players, and one demsioanl players,

All it does is screw you up financially.

There other PF's the jazz can sign,

and a trade directly with chicago of boozer and maynor for hinrich and thomas would work,

or a trade of boozer to the knicks for lee (after knicks sign him for about 10 mil.

either trade would lower the jazz team salary by about 2 million,

And make them a better TEAM.

Dallas | 6:07 p.m. July 10, 2009
I like Milsap a lot, I think he is a solid player and has been a pretty incredible teammate. But for him to do this, seems to me, to be a bit of a back handed slap towards the Jazz. I know he wants to make money and all... that's great, who doesn't. But I'm Leary about players that pull this move to get more money. In my honest opinion, Milsap just made himself tradable in 2 or 3 years weather he plays for the Jazz or not.

At this point I'd lean towards letting him go and sink this season for 2 lottery picks next season to rebuild this team. And I'd still find anyway to trade Boozer.
PLEASE..... | 6:08 p.m. July 10, 2009
do not match this offer. I like Milsap, but he isn't worth $8-$9MM per year.
You'll keep Millsap | 6:10 p.m. July 10, 2009
Watch what happens. A 3 way trade will happen. Blazers will get their guy either way, they will just force the Jazz to give up their starting PF to do it. No way Utah can pay Millsap the money the contract is structured at and keep Boozer too, that's why it's front-loaded and has a signing bonus as well. The Jazz have a decision to make... either make the three way trade and help Portland that way, let Millsap walk then lose Boozer next year and have no decent PF. or match the contract Portland signed Paul to and put yourselves in salary cap tax land.

Brilliant move by Kevin Pritchard and the Blazers. Watch a 3 team trade develop now. No way you guys want to lose Millsap because you sure as heck aren't keeping Boozer next year.
He | 6:11 p.m. July 10, 2009
would be out of his mind not to take it. Go for it Milsap and play hard for the Blazers. The Jazz were hoping that maybe a million or two would fly by their negotiating table, a number they would be willing to match or beat, thus showing their unappreciative attitude for your excellent work ethics. Go to Portland and enjoy your well deserved paycheck.
Blazers fan | 6:26 p.m. July 10, 2009
i hope portland gets millsap, that would be so cool, then we could laugh in utahs face next year when blazers kick some butt! i think its a great idea and the jazz should just let him go
t-Roy | 6:37 p.m. July 10, 2009
Trade boozer and AK to the raptors for Chris Bosh
Anonymous | 6:38 p.m. July 10, 2009
$8+ million for an undersized PF. Millsap is a good player for 6-7 million but not worth 8 mill a year... 5 years for $35 million sounds reasonable.

Can he average a double double as starter? No, and he's to small to play against bigger PFs on defense.
Fedor | 6:50 p.m. July 10, 2009
To me, Portland has paid too much money for this Paul Millsap. And my fellow Jazz fans, you have to ask yourself this: Do we want player on our team that is content to be career backup? Paul is all about money....listen to exit interview last year....all he talk about it number of double doubles and individual stats. if Boozer do this, the city would be all over him. Goodbye career back up Mr. Paul Millsap. So much for being all-star...you in Boozer shadow, now in shadow of LaMarcus Aldridge. In Utah you are hero, in Portland you will be just another player. This makes sense actually since you were one of four players to get in trouble in portland a couple year ago. Maybe it is the gentleman's club in in Portland you prefer. If so, shame on you. Take your $1's Paul Millsap.....you will need many of them over the next four years.
Too much | 6:53 p.m. July 10, 2009
That is all there is too it but all signs indicate the Jazz are going to pay that much.

Ak contract number 2. The only difference is that Paul is more durable and shorter.

Great guy but he will be an overpaid starter that should be a backup.

The jazz are steam rolling toward mediocrity.
dlh | 6:57 p.m. July 10, 2009
Hey! I like Boozer and would be sorry to see him go.
He wasn't always there for the Jazz, but he wasn't the whinning baby like Malone. And he plays hard when he is out there.
It'd be great if the Jazz can keep them both, and if Millsap goes I won't like that either. But this is a 'business' and both players and teams have to do what's best for them!
No matter what happens - good luck to all!
S.Gil | 6:57 p.m. July 10, 2009
You Blazzers just paid way to much for a back up power forward. And I believe Sap is a player! Sap can't play PG!!!
LOTTERY | 7:02 p.m. July 10, 2009
Look at the bright side, we're officially in the lottery now. D-will can't do it all. LOOZER will be hurt and giving 50%. Maybe we'll get lucky and D-WILL goes down for the year and we get the first pick.

TIME TO REBUILD AGAIN.

PORTLANDS GM KICKED OUR GM BUTT, JUST LIKE PORTLAND WILL KICK THE JAZZ BUTT ALL YEAR.
The best thing... | 7:06 p.m. July 10, 2009
...that the jazz could do is punish Portland by making them actually pay Millsaps contract.

36 million for an undersized backup power forward who won't get to play much behind Aldridge.

I wonder if Paul will play much there? He sure does not even come close to Aldridge in terms of post game yet he will be making more.

I say reward Portland with exactly what they have asked for.
ctoe | 7:10 p.m. July 10, 2009
Utah fans deserve and expect hard work from each player in return for their support. When they see Paul working his tail off and Boozer coasting, what do you think is going to happen. Boozer is gone, the question is whether Portland's offer will also take Paul from the Jazz. I have to admit that I would have a hard time offering the same ammount. No offense Paul. I would love to keep you on the team, but good luck with your new team and the big paycheck....I loved watching you in a Jazz uniform.
CJ3 | 7:10 p.m. July 10, 2009
The Jazz have said they are prepared to pay the LT to the tune of 12-15 million. The Millsap offer puts Utah way beyond that.

Thanks for your hustle Paul! Glad you got paid, like you wanted.

Watch Aldridge become a Portland "malcontent" now. lol

benny | 7:11 p.m. July 10, 2009
Remember AK, don't do the same thing again. Plus we are in serious economic times. As much as we all love Paul, the Jazz would be better off letting him go. Use the young talent we already have or trade. Millsap was given an opportunity to play, give Koufos his minutes let's see what happens. What would Almond have become if he had been given a serious opportunity, an opportunity like CJ's been given.
And look what Ronnie Price did in that last game ... we need Jeff Hornacek as our coach. If coach Sloan was ever going to win a championship, it would have happened by now. Thanks Jerry, see ya.
re: Blazers fan | 7:11 p.m. July 10, 2009
Evidently you have not seen Millsaps post game. Neither have we. Probably because he does not have one.

We beat the Blazers last season when you played here and we will likely beat you again.
Eat your words  | 7:13 p.m. July 10, 2009
I cannot wait until everyone here is singing millsap's praises in march as he averages 18 and 11 and helps lead them to a division championship - saying "I knew it was a good move to resign him". He is worth EVERY penny. In todays NBA you better be prepared to lock gems like millsap up regardless of cost otherwise you'll be in the lottery. If we resigned cj last year we definitely resign Paul at this price.
re: Blazers fan | 7:15 p.m. July 10, 2009
Instead of gloating you ought to be ticked at your teams management for overpaying for a short PF with no post game.

Your money is gone and what do you have now that you didn't before?

Your team is already tall and long and capable of rebounding. Millsap is a rebounder and hustle player which you already have plenty of.

Too bad Pritchard didn't spend money on something the team actually needed. millsap sitting on the bench behind aldridge is not a good way to get your moneys worth out of 36 million spent.
Media And Fans-Hype & Spin | 7:18 p.m. July 10, 2009
Don't worry fans your letting the media get to you. The Jazz will deliver a GOOD & COMPETETIVE team to SLC this season I guarantee it. We can only talk and get frenzied about what is happening, let the management people do their job and you will like the outcome! All of these opinions and trades ect is getting old hat by now, just sit back, throw down a cool one and relax, the sun will rise for several months.
@t-Roy | 7:18 p.m. July 10, 2009
You obviously have no idea how thing work. Look up the contracts and tell me if it will work. Either learn what your talking about or just don't post with semi inelegant people
bob marley | 7:22 p.m. July 10, 2009
if the jazz dont resign 'Sap there will be riots in SLC... mark my words
renojazz | 7:23 p.m. July 10, 2009
The #'s now add up for the 3 way trade, with Millsap coming back to Utah. You have to be with in 25% in a trade and Thomas made $4mil. with Millsaps $8 mil, it equals boozers 12 mil. See you back in Utah, Paul.
dave | 7:33 p.m. July 10, 2009
paul is a good player but i say see ya get rid of loozer and ak i would rather us loose with some heart on the floor and the way kevin o conner is running this it won't be long until the jazz are out of here anyway
