What did the Mormons ever do to Tom Hanks??
HBO TRASH | 3:29 p.m. July 10, 2009
Well, I suppose the U 0F U needs to sue these evil deviates, HBO.... They are nothing but a porn trash station anyway.
motherluv52 | 3:38 p.m. July 10, 2009
Some people just need to GROW UP! Our freedoms are sooooooooo dictated any more, thank a vet, but whiners are the ones who are getting all the freedoms to choose for the rest of US! The show is a show! If you don't like the show, it's because you never really watched it! Do you believe in Spiderman too?

... HBO woudn't have a problem with anyone/everyone using their logo for whatever purposes they felt like, right?
Sam | 4:00 p.m. July 10, 2009
Please somebody sue HBO and hit them in the wallet.... Hit them hard....
anonymous | 4:05 p.m. July 10, 2009
why doesn't Utah cecede from U.S.A. and do away with continuous controversy and rename it Zion?
JC | 4:42 a.m. July 11, 2009
When we are the ones who "restored" polygamy, we have to take the Rap sometimes. We are quick to condemn other religions, shows and fundamentalists beliefs, when we are the ones who promoted the folly.

"What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceice"...Shakespeare
@Anon | 6:33 a.m. July 11, 2009
Why don't you cecede from Utah and we'll all call it Zion.
Secession | 6:38 a.m. July 11, 2009
I agree with the secession idea. When Utah wanted to become a State, it gave up polygamy. Now that the least thing offends them, they want to sue. Utah has become the laughing stock of the nation. Intolerance of gays, using college logo, not having access to records to perform some weird temple ritual...all this victim syndrome needs to stop. Why not just secede, make up your own set of rules and quit embarassing the rest of the country with your "mini theocracy"? The rest of the country would like to be in the 21st Century. Do us all a favor and secede.

So, I can't take a University image and make my own T-shirt out of it, but HBO thinks they can take the same image and place it in it's TV series? If nothing else, the U of U should receive some royalty for use of their image on TV.
nottyou | 7:06 a.m. July 11, 2009
Hey, if I'm not going to bitch and moan about the temple ceremony being shown on HBO, certainly the U can get over having their offensive logo being shown to the world.
Big Deal | 8:43 a.m. July 11, 2009
So apparently someone thought that the U of U (a state owned school) would be able to authenticate a letter! Is that bad publicity?
jb | 9:01 a.m. July 11, 2009
to Motherluv52,

I've watched the show. Still stupid.
It's Utah and  | 9:04 a.m. July 11, 2009
It is ZION for your information---- for now anyway.
Secede?? Why should we do that?? If you don't like it here -- MOVE---
And Yes, I do believe in Spiderman! He's a real hero.In addition Motherluv, you are right, I have never ever seen Big Love and don't ever plan to.
I also believe HBO is a smut outfit and won't have it in my home.
Also as a graduate of the U of U, I am personally offended over the use of the U Logo in something that carries with it such a negative connotation.

BYU fan | 11:11 a.m. July 11, 2009
I did not know Tom Hanks was a BYU fan.
Anonymous | 11:45 a.m. July 11, 2009
I am outraged. Outraged, I say. Won't somebody please think of the children?
Stenar | 12:18 p.m. July 11, 2009
I'm sure the U has received some heat from backwater, idiot Utah legislators over the U's logo in the show, thinking they condoned its use. So, the U, to appease these legislators who control their state funding, has to make it clear that they did not approve of it.
Anonymous | 12:49 p.m. July 11, 2009
Like so many laws suits, Utah will loose. This use isn't any violation of fair use. It's common knowledge that "Big Love" is fictional.
Free Agent  | 6:23 p.m. July 11, 2009
What I want to know is if the BYU bookstore's ban on Boy George songs is still in place?
ed | 10:53 p.m. July 11, 2009
Just another example of out-of-control IP law. I certainly hope UofU loses this case.
Dumbies | 8:45 p.m. July 19, 2009
This isn't a "lawsuit" or a "case." The U merely sent a cease and desist LETTER. HBO should honor the letter, delete the scene, pay a royalty, and move on. If they do not, then you will see the lawsuit.

Does anyone really pay money for HBO? In this down economy, I can think of a lot better things to spend my hard earned money on.
