How is this attempted murder? Vehicular assault is the most it could be.

How is this attempted murder of a police officer? While i'm glad they got caught, there is no reason they should be charged with attempted murder. That is just taking it too far.

If you read the article closely you will see it says the officers hand got stuck after he reached in the window, then he had to bread the window to free his arm. It sounds like the window was rolled up on his arm, then the driver started to drive away. If that's the case, it would be attempted murder.

It's attempted murder because a vehicle is a deadly weapon. From the brief article it seems that the driver intentionally drove away, knowing that the officer was stuck.

guess my question is a little more basic. Why did the officer think he could safely stick his hand thru the wing vent?
These were not rampant crime spree murderers shoplifters for goodness sake (had to be polically correct). Take their license plate and like they did gather them up later.

These were rampant crime spree shoplifters and the driver was willing to commit murder. He knew the Police Officers hand was in the window; he actually rolled the window up on his hand and was willing to drag him down the road. Luckily he was able and smart enough to brake free. Had he not broke free and was drug and eventually ran over then would your opinion change? The intent is still the same in both scenarios. Why does an officer have to be killed or seriously injured before we start siding with the police? Why do we question the officer and not the criminals? These are criminals who failed to stop at the command of the police and were willing to do whatever to get away, I hope they all serve lots of jail time so more people don't become victims because of there selfish behaviors. I hope the officer recovers and can get back out there and KEEP doing his job.

Officers doing their job and any attempt to harm or injure an officer with any object is considered an attempt on his life. And willfully trying to harm an officer is murder, they don't want to leave any witnesses in their crimes. However, the sad part is that these criminals, most likely illegals, will be released and go underground to be hidden by their families, also criminals. The law should mandate that any illegal foreign national be held in jail and an expeditious deportation with prejudice ensue. Illegals fear this more than they fear any other justice we americans can inflict on them.

We have to give some credit to the person who reported the crime also. Otherwise these items would be at the Redwood swap meet in some illegals stall being sold. More people are becoming aware of crime and reporting it, but the sad part is that theft is not a crime in Utah, especially from homes and citizens.
