My house is gone, and so is some of my family... but George Clooney is going to shoot a movie here! Can this day get any better?... (peeling sticker off cup) I just won a free Big Mac!

It certainly won't solve all their problems, but shooting a film in the region will create a lot of extra cash flow and thus help to boost their economy a bit. They have to pay for licenses to shoot there, they have to use local hotels and businesses, and so on and so forth. (And that's why the Utah government is so eager to create incentives for film crews to come to this state.)
