The building should have been torn down months ago.
It is a complete waste of money to move a building across the street. For what purpose. Just build a new building that looks old. They do it in Europe all the time.

Every time I am in down town Salt Lake I see that idiot building just sitting there. If you look closely at the front, there is a crack that doesn't look very safe. It's ugly, it's old, and who knows how much more mone has to be put into it to even be safe to enter. In this economic climate, the last thing anyone needs to be spending money on is a worn out old building. Let it crumble and use the money to make a better country.

Tear it down | 8:08 a.m. July 10, 2009
Historical impact was lost when it was decided to move the thing. At this point raze it onsite and get on with improving downtown.

i work on market street and i'm disappointed that emmert moved the building part way and left town demanding they be paid more money. the building should be moved to its final location (it is scary where it now sits) and then everyone can figure out the finances later. doing part of the work and leaving is unprofessional just as if i quit serving the main course knowing that i was going to get a smaller tip than i deserved.

Emmert is acting like a little kid on the playground. if i don't get my way, then i'll take my ball and go home. well in this case, emmert go back to oregon and take your building with you.

Move the building | 12:35 p.m. July 10, 2009
Get on with it.The building needs to be moved. From what I know, Layton's a good contractor. Don't know about Emmert, but the companies better get together to get the building moved. I'm tired of the holdups and inconvenience on Market Street.

A monument... | 3:17 p.m. July 10, 2009
...to the stupidity of the whole courthouse project. If they had just put the bloody courthouse on the empty lot across the street (yeah, Earl's land), it would have been built by now, and over 100 people who lost their jobs, homes, and businesses would still be them.

Who is paying for this? Us? What genius came up with the plan. Take a picture then blow the building up already. What is the historical significance of the Odd Fellows Hall anyway? Morons

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
