Let him go for that price. Don't do another AK. Millsap is a great role
player but the Jazz need impact players. If Paul wants to live in Portland,
Adios baby. We don't need a backup making starter money.

if he gets anything more than the MLE. Utah got some good cheap years out of
him. Prichard has been acting strangely lately. His drafting was almost as bad
as MNs. If he overpays Millsap to be a back up PF that is going to cost POR in
the long run.
Utah needs to look around for a young, taller, athletic PF they can get for cheap for insurance.
For this year, until there is a trade, Koufos can play back up PF and Fez can play back up C.
When the Jazz make a trade later this year they hopefully can get the PF of the future and maybe a shooting SG.
Too bad they were not aggressive in the draft. They could have moved up a few spots in the second round for cheap and gotten Blair and replaced Millsap instead of letting SA steal him. But that is the Jazz, slow, timid, conservative and not very smart.

Why would Portland over-pay Millsap when he is not even going to be the starter,
and why would Millsap want to go to Portland and ride the bench. Unlike
Boozer, Aldridge isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I hope the Jazz don't match some ridiculous offer - we got ourselves into this mess by unnecessarily over-paying, I would hate to see us do it again.

If Portland offers 8.9 million I don't see the Jazz matching it.
While I do love your play Paul, the Jazz can't afford to pay 9 million per year for a second string undersized power forward.
Still ... you'd be a knucklehead to not accept that kind of offer. So, no hard feelings if you do end up leaving. Your behavior and play with the Jazz has been exemplary.

Wait to Go KOC. You were more worried about Fes not going to summer league
rather than offer Millsap a contract. It is going to cost you many more millions
to match the offer sheet. If you would have done your job Millsap would have

So if the Jazz are 3 million over the cap right now and they add 9 million to
sign Milsap, they would have to pay approx 12 million next year in luxury tax.
I like Milsap for 5-6 mill but not 18 million. I would suggest a sign and trade
with the blazers for next years first round draft pick.

All I have to say is that I am tired of O'Connor getting the free pass.
Honestly it seems that every team in the west is getting not only better but
doing it by signing big free agents.
Then there is O'Connor who honestly has put the Jazz in the position that they are now with his contract work with current players and while everyone else is getting better it honestly seems like O'Connor is totally clueless on what is going on around him.
Either he is very good at not showing anyone his hand or he truly is clueless. Either way the Jazz salary is the worst deal in the NBA. They are over the luxury tax and will have a team that will maybe finish 4th in the west

Not sure if Paul would continue to get better (improve as he has the last three
years) in the Portland system. Money talks and BS walks. The Jazz will loose
him if they don't get busy.

I don't know why in the world Portland would go and offer an outrageous
contract to a player they really don't need. They already have Alridge,
Oden, Prizbilla and batum. They don't have much of a inside presence but
I'm not sure how good of an inside presence Milsap is...yeah he's good
in our system but what about Portland. If Milsap gets a bloated contract, and
the jazz match, and it becomes an AK situation in a few years, that would be
worse case senario.
I think milsap is a fine player, and has high potential of starting and being a very effective player on any team...maybe even an allstar. But right now, without any proof of that, he is not worth more than 5-7 million a year. If in the next few seasons, he becomes great and putting up boozer numbers and good D, than boost him into 10 million range, but definately not now.
I think a lot of teams are staying away because he wants so much...which is perfect for the jazz.

Prichard is pretty unconventional and often makes trades but it is unlikely he is going to trade Aldridge who currently is making less than Millsap is supposed to get. Millsap could be useful in holding down Aldridge next year as he is a RFA as is Brandon Roy.

How do you think POR got a better team than Utah and is still under the cap?
Drew Gooden is still available as I recall. A one year deal with him would
replace Millsap for this year. That gives the Jazz a lot of time and flexibility
to get the PF and back up they need in the long run.

I think this says Paul is looking for one thing, MONEY. Kind of ironic that the guy leaving to chase more money is the guy Jazz fans have fallen in love with because he seems so willing to be a team player.

CLE is trying to buy a championship. Varajao is an anomalie and will probably get over paid. Marion is a 4 way trade with Stackhouse being dumped and Cuban has always over paid and in the luxury tax.
The Jazz are not and should not make a concrete offer. Millsap and agent were not reasonable on starting price. The Jazz told him to go get an offer (none). We will see what Prichard offers but it is likely to be just over the mle with some type of front loading for one year (poison pill).

Is anyone else concerned about Kevin O'Conner NOT hearing about this at
all? I mean... look, something is clearly wrong with the Jazz organization if
there isn't a very strong effort to figure out what other teams are trying
to do. But not surprising. The last 2 season's of doing nothing, not
trying to trade Boozer or AK is now about to bite the Jazz very hard. MAJOR
changes need to be made within the Jazz organization if there is EVER going to
be a chance of the Jazz getting back to the NBA Championship. Kevin

Bottom line is if we want Paul on our team keep him regardless, if we think as was suggested that there is a taller, better PF out there who will gladly play for less money then we should get him instead, or that Koufous is now suddenly a sound NBA forward who overnight has become a force to be reckoned with.

Most players and agents have found the market is soft. They're not getting the deals they want. Only a few teams have cap space. Detroit gave hefty contracts to Gordon and Villanueva. Hedo is getting a nice deal. Other than that, not much happening.
Millsap was waiting for David Lee to "set the market." Ironically, it now appears Paul will get a bigger contract, even though Lee is the better player and has proven he is a legit starter. But Lee wanted $12M/per. Now he'll be forced to either play for NY's QO or sign a deal for the MLE.
Hate to lose Millsap and make a division rival better, but $9M is way too much for Millsap.

When you say you're mad at the Jazz for not being aggressive enough in the
draft or free agency is that because you are able to do a lot of trades on your
xbox. You obviously don't understand basic economics or even the CBA
(that's collective bargaining agreement). The Jazz are limited by the
market and what other teams are willing to do.

I hate them, but why can't the Jazz take note? They seem to always pull
out really smart moves that get rid of unnecessary players and reload with
talent (that produces). This offseason they have managed to draft Blair, pick
up Richard Jefferson (by dumping Oberto, Bowen, Thomas), and now McDyess. Three
forwards who fill in the spots that the Spurs needed with G's & C
locked down already. Rockets are making big moves that help, and the Mavs may
be a contender again with Marion. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! Make some moves that get us
out of our mess!!!!!

Let Milsap walk sign Okur and Boozer to extensions now that they know the salary
cap is going down they won't feel so bad if you start with their current
salary and go up from there. If the jazz want to go into the luxury tax, sign
someone to a mid-level exception like all the other contenders. So far I'd
give the Jazz an F for their off season moves. Their draft picks aren't
setting the world on fire, and they seem to want to stand pat while other teams
are making move to try and win a championship or improve. I can't wait
until Paul signs an offer sheet. That will basically force KO to do something
before Paul walks. A sign and trade, trade Booz or AK, something....it's
been pretty boring around here.....nothing new there!!

4. Dallas-Magnus' fav Gortat + Marion
5. Portland-More lottery talent than anyone if Oden improves watchout they could be in the 3 slot!!
6. YOUR UTAH JAZZ! ARE JAZZ FANS HAPPY WITH THIS RANKING AND PAYING LUXURY TAX TO BE AN AFTER THOUGHT! (PS if no one gets injured? we maybe get a 4 seed at best a 3)

Put Milsap on the list of players that quite frankly we don't need along
with A.K., Boozer and Miles. Sign Gooden for 3 to 5 years for 5 or 6 mil and be
rid of your backup PF and SF problem for the time being. Get Nocioni in a trade
for whatever matching money is needed and move on to the trade deadline in Feb
trying to rid ourselves of the Booze and A.K. Just quit laying in the bushes
O'Connor!

for the minimum and he is better than Harp and can replace Harp for cheap. That
fixes some of the salary cap problems. It also give some flex if AK has to play
some PF (replace Millsap).
That effectively replaces Millsap for under a million and gives a lot of cap relief.
Let POR over pay Millsap. However, this many just be more smoke out of Millsap's agent uncle. He fanned the speculation on OKC when there was nothing.

Good thing for Millsap there always seems to be a team or two who overpay for players.

If Millsap signs with Portland - the Jazz should match.
I am not sure why Portland is interested in Millsap - (Millsap starting numbers are 16 and 10) Why sign a back up when you have Odon and Aldredge as their starting 2 bigs with Pryzibilla and Millsap as backups) Portland really needs a small forward and a point guard. If I was Portland, I would be pushing for Odom with the same intensity as they pushed for Turk. But I am not a GM
The Jazz should offer Boozer for Pryzibilla. Portland is under the cap so that works straight up.
This brings the Jazz salary with Millsap and Prizibilla instead of Boozer at 74 million. The Jazz can release Harpring at the trade line and be under the cap.
If Jazz management keeps Boozer (a player who has disenfranchised himself to the fans, is always injured, never plays deference, cost 4 or 5 million over what Millsap is going to get paid and is on the down slide of his career - turning 28) over Millsap. This is absolutely Bonehead.

are the right long run answer at PF. That is the 2nd most important position in
the Jazz system. A change has to be made and loosing Millsap to POR for a lot of
money is good for the Jazz in the long run. POR is going to trade him in a year
or two anyway. He is insurance for Aldridge.
The Jazz have lots of options and need to be patient. They will be just as strong without Millsap if they get the right couple of players in the short run for the minimum and then trade Boozer/Korver/Harp later in the year or just use the FA market in 2010.
There are options out there that give the Jazz enough flex for cheap. They can get by while they get the right players for the long run.
This team with or without Millsap was only a playoff team anyway.

Ben you are not to bright. CJ's signing is not stopping Millsap from being
signed. What will stop Millsap from being signed is him wanting to much money
for too long of a period. CJ is making peanuts considering the Jazz payroll is
over 70 million. Cheap Cheap for the minutes he plays.

Millsap is just the start of the Blazers moves. He will get playing time, as now
Pryzbilla becomes expendable. Be on the look out, Houston needs a center,
Blazers could be setting up a trade that would send Pryzbilla for Battier. One
more move that will make the NW Divsion tougher. Blazers will be a 3 seed. The
Jazz need to move some big contracts in order to compete for the 5 spot in
09'-10'.

If this is a real offer I hope Millsap enjoys Portland. I once thought Millsap
was worth that much but with what is available he isn't. I'd rather
have Drew Gooden for 2 years with the MLE than Millsap at 8-9 mil for 4-5 years.
Screw it let's just have AK back up Booz and get a decent backkup 2-3.
Millsap at 5-6 good player, Millsap at 8-9 too much and not needed.

To all of you who think we can win a championship with Milsap and want to get
rid of Boozer, I have one word. "Idiots". No matter how much I love
Paul, and I do, he is not good enough to take us to a championship. He is a
backup. Boozer, on the other hand, can. He is a great offensive player. We
just need to build some defense around him. I wish Paul the best. I love him
on the team, but he is not a starter for a championship team. He is too small
and does not have enough of a varied game. Get over your problems with Boozer
and wish him a healthy year. We need him.

that maybe his is just a ploy by Paul's uncle to set the stage for the big
money he thinks is out there....maybe Portland is really not at the same dollar
level. There is no sense for Portland to pay a back-up this kind of money and
then have to negotiate for more next season to keep their starters.

I think MIllsap is a great hustler and great bench player, but he can not lead a
team to a championship with him as their starter, not here in Utah or anywhere
else. Does anyone know how close we ar to trading Boozer to Detroit? I would
love to see Hamilton in a Jazz uniform. I would also like to see a move between
the Jazz and Toronto... AK47 (although I would like to see him stay) for Bosh.
Or even Millsap, miles and a 1st rounder for Bosh (better deal in my opinion).
