Meet your new Lt. Governor: Mark Walker.

At least that's the rumor I keep hearing.

What is the cost ? | 9:06 p.m. July 8, 2009
What is the cost to tax payers of a special session to confirm the Lt. Governor? I think the money should come from the Senate budget-maybe their room allowance-

Walker? Look, personally I like Mark but how does that benefit Herbert? He's going to have to run for re-election in a years and I'd think he'd want someone with him who has actually won and comes relatively baggage-free. Killpack comes to mind.

Just a thought.

Mark Walker has as much chance as my Aunt Nella. Not going to happen.

As for Jason Chaffetz, that won't happen either. Even if Herbert were foolish enough to do so Chaffetz knows that next election he won't have $4/gal gas to make him look good, or only 7% voter turnout. Chaffetz is smart enough to know he got lucky and this kind of luck only happens once.

I hope it is Sheryl Allen. Get her out of the House! She would do far less harm in the Lt Govs office and it would be a balanced ticket. It would hurt Herbert with conservatives but boost him with moderates.

Actually, if you are hearing Walker I bet is is Carlene Walker, not Mark Walker. She would do a pretty good job.

Herbert gave me a thumbs up when I yelled at him in the Provo parade on July 4th to nominate me.

I hope never Carlene Walker. She created the school district issue. Let's hope the goverment is wiser than that.

Is anyone else upset that Gov. Huntsman is pulling a paycheck from the state while turning over all public duties to Lt. Gov. Herbert? Is Huntsman afraid he won't be confirmed? The US Senate will confirm Huntsman, that way he is out of sight out of mind when 2012 comes along.

Herbert needs a name and money, the people need a good leader. I know Gary will carefully consider his decision or he will be a very short-term Gov. (ie Olene)

In my opinion... | 2:36 p.m. July 9, 2009
I think Herbert's biggest challenge is going to be finding someone who can fill his own shoes. He's a natural for the governor's spot, but the LG's position requires more than people think. I was surprised to learn of the many, many responsibilities of the Lt. Gov. not to mention the possibility of having to take over as #1.

Herbert is just going to do what the Legislature tells him to do cause he's best buddies with them and has a history of doing their bidding. There goes the independent Executive branch of government which the framers of Utah's Constitution wanted.
