Utah swine-flu deaths at 14

How many people have survived it?

So what is the total deaths in the state of Utah from those that suffered from the "normal" flu. I bet the numbers far surpass those of swine flu.
Of course no one in the media dare report the full picture because that wouldn't sale newspapers. Our media sure does seem to be leaning towards tabloid style news over true honest journalism.

Bird Flu is still the one to worry about. It kills about 65% of the people who contract it.... Well over 400 people have contracted it.

Now we have seen with H1N1 how quickly a new strain of flu propogates itself around the world literally in a few weeks.

If you thought people were scared of swine flu, just wait until the deadly bird flu mutates... Even Tamiflu does not help with it...

Stop shaking hands at Church!

In fact, stop GOING to Church!

Church is the ideal social situation for spreading diseases!

One slight problem with that statement ;anonymous, probability states that you will run into more people simply walking down main st. during the middle of the day then at church. We cannot put our lives on hold every time there is a pandemic scare, if we do this then the disease might as well have taken us because we already gave our lives up.

Shaking hands isn't the problem. Any surface you touch (door handles, the cashier's pen, ATM buttons, chair, etc.) can make you sick IF you're in the habit of touching your face or eating without washing your hands.

Good ol' handwashing is key. Wash thoroughly with soap before you eat or touch your face. And OF COURSE after using the bathroom! If you wash your hands in a public restroom, use a paper towel, or put your hand in your pocket, to open the door. Eating out? Keep silverware on a spare napkin instead of their table.

At your desk, keep pens out of your mouth and clean your phone regularly with antiseptic wipes. Of course, don't eat at your desk (who knows how many germs your keyboard and chair are harboring) unless all you do is eat without touching anything between bites! Stay out of the office candy dish, too.

Go to church and shake hands. Live your life! Just learn preventive hygiene to stay healthy. Such habits will help you avoid more than the swine flu (think colds, regular flus, etc.) So wait to eat those fast food fries until you get home and wash!

Oh, I'm sorry, I guess I should have been more specific.

I was not talking about H1N1.

I was just saying, stop shaking hands at Church and stop going to Church.

The diseases that are spread at Church are MENTAL, not biological!

I am certain that the numbers are not reported to sell papers. Our family of six all had the regular flu vaccination and yet the children all got the flu in April when it was just starting to gain force here. I am certain it was the swine flu, as the symptoms were all the same--fairly high fever for a week, respiratory issues, coughing, runny nose, etc. It was NASTY, and we rarely ever have illness in our home. The kids contracted it again about two weeks ago. My friend, an ER doc, says that at least 35% of what they're seeing in the ER is swine flu.

Is it worse than regular flu? Probably not, but we've never had regular flu more than once or twice and the vaccine is for that strain. We'll stand in line for a shot for this strain when it comes out, as it was really pretty frightening, especially the fever.

Keep reporting on this DN. Informed people want to know about epidemic viruses!

It's killing young people. I work at IMC and many of our patients on ventilators are 20-50 yo previously healthy males - the regular flu doesn't do that.

Although, it doesn't have the media hoopla it did in the past, this flu is scary as it can afflict the young and old.

Hey whoever that is who wrote about IMC or anyone else who is caring for these people in the hospitals, can you please tell us more about the patients? The news always says "they had pre-existing health problems"--and leaves it at that. Have any people who have died been pregnant in Utah? I want more info!
