Envision Utah's Fayles joins race for West Valley mayor

I'll take a life long resident of the area - he lived here before it was a city, I think - over any corporate carpet bagger.

Winder in the final months of a four year term.

My neighbor Gerald Wise has also filed for mayor. Why does the reporter leave him out just because he's retired and doesn't have a flashy job like the other two!!!

Kevin Fayles filed on the 1st, the 1st one to show up.

Winder showed up later in the day. He is not running for his Member at large city council seat, he is running for mayor. If he looses, he is out.

Wise just filed yesterday.

I don't know Wise.

I have met Winder and Fayles I have known for many years. I am voting for Fayles.

I am not looking for Winder making the mayor's office full time. Fayles is willing to go what our current mayor has done. Fayles has better planning skills and working with diverse groups.

Perhaps Winder should just run for US Congress, as he clearly doesn't want to stop at mayor.

Fayles is hardly flashy. We could use his help.

Fayles has lived in West Valley City for 20 years. He has raised his family here. He chose to live here.

I've known the Nordfelts for years, and Dennis is one of the best guys you'll find anywhere. He has served West Valley well. I also know the Winders, and they are a kind and classy family. For years Ned Winder would take dairy products to the local fire station on Sunday mornings. Mike Winder would be a great mayor because he is a businessman with a solid foundation.

Hopefully we will get a few more choices before this is all said and done.

Fayles may have out-of-state experience but he doesn't know West Valley City like Winder. Winder may have only been on city council a couple of years but he's lived in the area his whole life. He seems to have a very clear vision of where the city needs to go

Winder is a well known name. They have great products and are nice people. That doesn't even count the really cool lights at Christmas.

I really like Dennis Nordfelt. He is not endorsing anyone running for mayor.

Based on what I know about Mike Winder and Kevin Fayles, Fayles will do the better job and will get my vote. The number of cities and towns in Utah Fayles is helping and has helped is impressive.

Mike Winder has been involved with the city for years: as an elected official, a city employee, a volunteer for city committees, a business in the city, etc. He is passionate about our city and would do great. Go Mike, go!

I misspoke when I said to the reporter that Mr. Winder has been on the city council for two years. He is completing his first four-year term. My apologies to Mr. Winder. No harm intended. A second correction to the article: In addition to fundraising and working with volunteers, for five years I handled the human resource responsibilities of the Work Activity Center, a non-profit assisting disabled adults in West Valley City with 125 staff, and not Envision Utah. I have lived in WVC for nearly 20 years.

Fayles was a member of Envision Utah (a very liberal organization in my view). I don't like people who decide they are going to run our government when we never asked you to or voted for you. Huntsman Jr was also an envision Utah man-and also an extreme liberal. I'll be voting for Winder definitely!!!!

My husband only decided to run for Mayor after numerous individuals who know both him and Mr. Winder strongly encouraged him to run. It was not an easy decision to make, knowing that our family does not have the financial resources or name recognition that Winder has. Running against Mr. Winder doesn't mean we dislike him or his family (in fact, I worked with two of his sisters through PTA and found them to be lovely individuals with a strong belief in serving their community).

However, I feel it's extremely bigoted and close-minded to think that only a person raised in West Valley cares about WVC and is qualified to become Mayor. We have had opportunities to move, but this is our city. We have raised our children in the public schools, even as we watched neighbors relocate so they wouldn't have to. I work at Kennedy and love all those kids, from the gangbangers to the Questies. I want them to grow up in a city that is safe, beautiful, and full of opportunties for them to succeed. My husband is fully qualified to make this happen, or I wouldn't be voting for him!

Kevin Fayles' vision for West Valley makes me not want to move. He will do great things for the city and make it a better community to live in. He seems down to earth and humble, and that is what we need in a mayor.

Having been to meetings involving Envision Utah, they get as much public feedback on a community area as possible, a lot more than typically shows up to a city council meeting. The one getting ideas from everyday people about what development should be encouraged along the Jordan River, was a lot better than what SLC did by just shutting everything down. "2 cents", you obviously have never gone to the community input meetings they put on. UTA and UDOT could learn a thing or two from Envision Utah.

I have seen Kevin Fayles involved with them and he is great.

The ballot doesn't say Envision Utah. He does work there.

The ballot says Kevin Fayles. I am voting for Kevin Fayles.

You do not have to be in a city your entire life to want was best for its residents, although 20 years is a long time to me. Kevin Fayles has our vote. He is qualified and he has the desire and know how to make it happen.

I have known Kevin Fayles and his family for over 9 years now. I think that through his work experience and other leadership roles, he has the ability to make a great Mayor. I only know Mike Winder by his name (I believe I voted for him for City Counsel), but I guess I need to do more research on him and the afore mentioned Mr. Wise. I will definitely do my homework, but I am leaning towards Kevin Fayles based on what I already know about him.

Kevin isn't planning on using the position of mayor as a stepping stone to future "higher" political positions-he plans to be down-to-earth like Dennis Nordfelt.

Sorry Winder, but I'm Lactose Intolerant!

Wow, it looks like the Fayles camp has been busy posting all these comments. Good for them! I think it is great that West Valley has at least two very capable individuals running for this seat. I'm not sure what the implication that Winder is looking to run for Congress has to do with the race. Obviously he is not running for Congress. (Although, I hope in 20 years he does run for Congress -- he's a sharp guy.) At any rate, may the best man win!!

Kevin is extremely qualified for this position and listens to the little people regardless of their age or position within the community. I am put off by Mr. Winder because of an encounter I had with him while he was on council. He doesn't listen to the little guys who are not a prominent member of the Republican party or the LDS church. Obviously this is just my opinion and maybe he was just in a bad mood when I tried to talk to him about business development within the city or maybe because it was the fact that I was young and so my opinion didn't matter but whatever the case, he didn't really bother to respond or address the issue I had brought up with him.
