What national resume has been acquired over time by the likes of South Florida, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Baylor, Iowa State, Duke, and the countless other bottom-feeders in BCS conferences? THe Big East is a prime example to refute Perlman. Certainly they have no long-term record of national success in football, with the exception of West Virginia. Yet even the bottom-feeders in BCS conferences can compete for the "national championship" simply by virtue of belonging to a favored conference. No resume, no endowment, no fan following, just membership. That is by definition, an exclusionary cartel. Maybe Perlman forgot that Utah played and defeated 4 teams in the Top 20 last year including the SEC #2 team. Young should have countered Perlman by saying, "If you want to compete for national championships, you should try winning all your games like we've done twice in 4 years."
I was disappointed that Senator Hatch was the only Senator of the committee in the room. Chairman Kohl opened the hearing, then passed the gavel to Hatch to conduct, THEN GOT UP AND LEFT THE ROOM!
Cheers for Hatch and the BCS Busters!!
Jeers for the BCS elitists and all of the missing Senators!!
How can you expect to go to a BCS game when you can't even beat Arizona in the LV Bowl?
Signed,
Common Sense
P.S. Before my fellow BYU fans start bashing me, remember: we have a two game losing streak. We lost bad to Utah, we lost to some High School team in the LV Bowl, we embarrassed ourselves with the "quest", and now we have 4 more tough games before we will get a win vs USU. But hey, we still have 1984, and we have new grass, and we get to play in a really expensive stadium the first game of the year. Now there is the silver lining.
I am a republican all my life, a Ute fan too, but, this is an inexcusable waste, especialy with so many domestic and international issues of grave concern.
Hatch should be ashamed of how he is wasting taxpayer dollars on something totally frivolous.
This certainly makes him look like a light-weight in comparison to the vast majority of Senators.
What a worthless post.
The fact that you say BYU has four tough games to start the season only proves your ewetness. OK and Florida State will likely be ranked teams and will be tough games but Tulane? They were 2-10 last year, and BYU hasn't lost to CSU in several years. Worst case scenario BYU would be 2-2 after their first four games heading into another beat down of USU in Provo.
There will always be the game to give us a healthy diversion from the problems and challeges which will always be with us.
