that leave on their missions prior to enrolling. Most likely, more scholarships
will be avail than 5.

Can anyone explain to me how this scholorship thing works? What happens if these
players get seriously hurt during their senior seasonsand can't play for a
few years? Or if they turn out to play terrible their senior year? Also are
these scholorships reviewed every year? What about a player that dosen't
perform on the field the first few years at BYU? Can they pull his scholorship?
I know of some players that have scholorships that didn't even make the
practice squad last year. What about them? Help

scholorships are reviewed each year. They are not a 4 year deal, but a one year
deal that can be renewed each year if the school chooses. So if any of these
verbal recruits does not pan out, the scholorship will be re-assigned. By the
way, none of these have signed a letter of intent. That is the official
commitment. These are all verbal soft commits that until national letter of
intent signing day, they can change their minds and go elsewhere. So a
scholarship is a 1 year at a time deal and can be pulled and used on another
player for any reason the school wants to.

Every year for many, many years we have a weak spot: Defenseive backs. As I look through this list I see the one kid from Massachusetts. That's it!
Ug! This means that sometime in about 4 or 5 years we will have a solid crew of players with walkons manning the defensive backfield...again!!

from little uties is most amusing. Trying to spin the cougars dominance in
recruiting as a bad thing. No wonder they never seem to understand that the
Cougars have a national recognized program while the uties are still a regional
one.

BYU has some DBs that are coming in from JCs (Aguirre, Logan, Eason) that have
already signed. Plus, they have some RMs (e.g. Buckner, Comer) and Redshirts
(e.g. Nicholson) and those already playing. While I still think it would be good
to sign one, maybe two more DBs, they are not as bare as you might believe. BYU
has got a good amount of safeties that have signed in the last classes, leaving
only 2-3 CBs at most that you would want to sign per class. BYU has been trying
to get more athletic DBs to verbal, but Jordan Johnson is the only one that has
so far.

It is simple really. Most Utah fans know that there is at least one position
that BYU will always out recruit, and that is TE. Pitta was one of the leading
receivers in the country while Colt had very few yards. It is not a big deal to
lose a TE to BYU in my opinion. Their scheme is a dream come true for someone in
that position. Utah recruits more traditional TE's that mostly block. It is
not that glamorous, but it is what most TE's end up doing in the NFL.
Unfortunately, that is where I think Pitta will fall short in the NFL. He has
great hands, but doesn't have the size to block the way he will be needed
to on most plays. It is too bad, he is probably the person that I would most
like to see succeed on BYU's team. Seems like a good guy.
You never know though, he could be great like USU's Cooley. "Captain Chaos" is a total stud.

Yes us Ute fans are jealous of the Cougars.
48-24 - Why couldn't we be on the losing end of that.
Vegas Bowl - We'd rather lose the Vegas Bowl than get to play Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
So sad. Even as BYU signs a nice class of recruits Cougar fans can still only think about the Utes and their accomplishments.

of the 20+ recruits that will be coming in for 2010, I'd say 15 of them
will go on their missions the following year freeing up 15 scholarships for
returning missionaries... it's a process BYU has perfected...

We scheduled another high school team for you to play in December, but after
last year we don't know if you can handle it. You currently have a 2 game
losing streak, which may go to 5 or 6 before you play Utah State. Your fans
will then start chanting "BCS", will hold up the 1984 trophy, and will
blame the refs, the polls, the new grass, and anything else you can think of to
explain the nightmare season. We'd like you to get a mental evaluation

The Utes will be lucky to get to the Humanitarian Bowl this year after loosing
their starters.
Utes keep ripping on the Vegas Bowl but they won't even get consideration for it the next 5 years and wish they would.
Can football season start? I can't wait for the Ute fans to shutup after they loose to UNLV and Air Force and go back to being what they really are.

I have an honest question for BYU fans. Would you trade the last four seasons
that you have had for the last four seasons the Utes have had?
I honestly don't think there is a single Ute fan that would trade those time spans. That smack was good last year, but really doesn't phase Utes right now. Attendance smack is the lowest form of trash talk.
I don't really know where you got the attendance from. The Utes had a pretty decent turnout for the Sugar Bowl considering the huge expense it was. Driving to Vegas in December is much cheaper than New Orleans for New Years.
I hope to hear some legit responses to the question though.

Re:anonymous. NO THANKS on that trade. 2005 was a toss up BYU 6-6; Utah 7-5.
But since then BYU 11-2; 11-2; 10-3 - Utah 8-4; 7-5; 13-0. Admittedly Utah had a
tremendous year last year; I enjoyed the Sugar Bowl as much as any game all year
but one year does not a program make and the three years prior to that were
mediocre at best. During that same time period for BYU - 2 conference
championships and serious contention for a BCS berth each of those years.
Last didn't end as we had hoped but my expectations for the coming year are for another great year. BYU's best years have been when they were led by a Senior QB - Hall's produced two excellent years and should have a great Sr. year and with his supporting cast it should be a very fun offense to watch. The defense brings back a ton of experience in the front seven and the DBs should at least be better with several new faces.
I might trade our last year for your last year but no way for all four or future years.

have only one person to blame. You think you have the players but you fail to
understand that is only part of the equation. The bigger question is...can

However, before BYU or Utah fans get too full of themselves, they should remember that last season for Utah and 1984 for BYU could have turned out very different. Last year, Utah was outplayed at home by Oregon State. Oregon State was coming off a huge victory the week before against USC and, if you are honest, Oregon State was the better team in that game. Not too impressive. Second, I thought TCU was better than Utah when Utah played TCU at home in a very close game. With a few different bounces and calls Utah could have lost both games. The same can be said for BYU's 1984 season which had several close calls including the finish against a so-so Michigan team. In other words, if you look closely, your team is usually not as good as you think, and you are only as good as your last victory. But I'm glad that BYU gets Utah and TCU at home.

All these comments about how every year the BYU recruiting class is the best
ever amuse me. Isn't that just as it should be? A good coaching staff who
is doing it's job will be striving to make each year better than the one
before. The BYU staff should be congratulated for their success in that area.

Honestly, we've never even heard of you. Are you a Division I football program? We heard your name come up last January in conversations with Utah Ute fans, but still have no idea who you are. Obviously we know who Utah is, and even the Hawaii Rainbows made the trip here once.

This is how BYU fans try to hide their jealousy of Utah's success.
They call Utah's undefeated, Sugar Bowl winning season "good," the same classification they assign to BYU's season of 2, 2, and 3 losses.
There is a wide gap between "good" and GREAT. I believe the gap was about 48-24 in fact.

Why would BYU trade their good seasons for Utah's GREAT seasons? They are
already getting a nice piece of the BCS money pie. Their big brothers up north
have redistributed over $1,000,000 to the TDS with their two BCS wins.
BYU hypes their team in the summer, then watches their rival accomplish their hopes and dreams, but in the end they are being handed millions of dollars from the Utes.
Pretty sad assessment of the BYU program.

Yeah, this coming from the team who printed the infamous "Quest For Perfection" shirts last summer. You "might" trade seasons with the Utes? Really? I think you, other Cougar fans, Donko, and every player on that team would trade anything they have to get a piece of the Utes BCS success. Obviously it's something you covet, as proof exists in the silly shirts you still wear.
What am I saying, BYU is already getting a piece of Utah's BCS success, about $1,000,000 worth. How does it feel to get handouts from your rival?

The Utes attendance may not have been good at the Sugar Bowl, but considering
the distance and expense it wasn't all that bad. BYU put in the same
situation may have done slightly better due to church member interest in the
South. Just my opinion Utes. I don't think Ute attendance at the Sugar
Bowl was anything to hang your heads about. Those that attended certainly got
their moneys worth.

Thanks for some of the responses even though some of you got the numbers wrong
(JPG, I'm looking your direction). I also think that some of you are
fooling yourself if you wouldn't trade that. If I put the number of 5 years
instead of four, would you trade? I posed the question of four years to a BYU
friend of mine right after the rivalry game (before the Sugar Bowl win), and he
basically said, "how could you not want the Utes seasons over the
Cougs". I think he was being honest (he was in an emotional state though,
because his team had just gotten their hats handed to them a few hours earlier).
I will congratulate the Cougars on 3 impressive seasons. But, I would honestly take three 8-5 seasons to get to an undefeated season, over consistently good, but no outstanding seasons. You can make an argument against it, but in my opinion, you would be fooling yourself.

Sorry to interrupt all the rivalry blather, but can I make a comment about the
actual article? I would love to see some height, weight, 40-speed info, etc. on
the players. I know it might (heaven forbid) take some non-internet research,
but that's what I'd like to see in an article.

MWC team. Pathetic.
And that win in Oregon last year? It was very similar to BYU's exciting win versus UCLA in the Vegas Bowl two years ago. They managed to outlast a team who was down to their 4th string QB. Just like the mighty Broncos did in Eugene last year.

So a guy takes a defenders head off and gets called for it and it's a
phantom PI call? And it was Pac-10 refs by the way that made the call, so you
can't call it home cooking. Here's a thought, if the refs had let TCU
get away with as much interference on Boise as they did against Utah, TCU would
have beaten Boise State by 21 instead of 1.
