Hey, they need to fill a time slot. It's called programming. Dead air is not allowed. They didn't time the songs as they were going along so they just held the last note til the director said "cut".

I love the choir and Wilberg's arrangements and I agree that the songs often need to be stretched out or sped up so that the broadcast finishes precisely on time. But I also agree that often the endings go on a long, long time. When notes are sustained longer or phrases go on longer than is humanly possible (thanks to the magic of staggered breathing), it does sometimes seem as if the choir is showing off. I say that with all affection!
